OBERLIN -- Lester L. Chambers, 88, died Monday (Aug. 25, 2003) at Decatur County Good Samaritan Center.

He was born March 20, 1915, to Arthur and Mary (Warner) Chambers in Decatur County, Kan. He attended Lyle school and graduated from Norcatur High School in 1932.

He served in the Army during World War II.

On Oct. 20, 1946, he married Agnes M. Cramer in McCook. The couple made their home on a farm in Decatur County. He was a farmer and a stockman.

He was a lifetime member of the Oberlin American Legion Post No. 70 and the Lebanon Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters, Janette Delano and Helen Stanley; six brothers, Silver, Dwight, Ferris, Clyde, Carroll and Keith; and one sister, Isabel.

Survivors include his wife, Agnes Chambers of Oberlin; one son, Richard C. Chambers and wife, Lynn of Hays, Kan.; two sisters, Ruby Strayer of Norton and Inez Diedrich of Fullerton, Calif.; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services are Thursday, 11 a.m., at Pauls Funeral Home in Oberlin. Interment is in the Oberlin Cemetery.

Visitation is Wednesday, 8 a.m.-8 p.m., and Thursday from 8 a.m. to service time.

Memorials may be given to Decatur County Good Samaritan Center.
