Couple recite vows in Missouri

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Laura Marie Scott and Karl David Hying, both of Kansas City, Mo., were united in marriage May 3, 2003, at Saint Elizabeth Catholic Church in Kansas City, Mo., with the Rev. Robert Gregory officiating.

Parent of the couple are Rita Scott of Easton Pa., Allen Scott of Omaha and David and Karen Hying of York. Grandparents of the couple are Patricia Hackert of Palisade and the late Donald Hackert, Dorothy Scott of Hayes Center and the late Gene Scott, Dean and Eldene Norseen of Lexington and Cletus and Joanne Hying of Mineral Point, Wis.

The matron of honor was Melissa Wright Powers of Topeka, Kan. The bridesmaids were Lisa Biernbaum of Kansas City and Janet Jones of Wichita, Kan., cousin of the bride. Personal attendant to the bride was Jen Harvey of Baltimore, Md. The best man was Jason Schwan of Kansas City. The bridegroomsmen were David Nowak of Independence, Mo., and Jared Morris of Lincoln.

Also in the wedding party was David Cutting of Easton, Pa. The flower girl was Colleen Jones, cousin of the bride.

Ushers for the ceremony were Brian, Joel and Kirk Hying, all of York, brothers of the bridegroom and Jeff Biernbaum of Kansas City.

Organist for the ceremony was Karen Engebreston of Kansas City. The vocalist was John Fortino of Kansas City. The guestbook attendant was Susan Gnade of Bedford, Texas. Readers for the ceremony were Tim Hackert, uncle of the bride and Anne Bakken and Paul Hying, aunt and uncle of the bridegroom. Presentation of the gifts was performed by Kaitlyn Johns and David Hackert, cousins of the bride. Altar servers were Stephen Hackert and William Johns, cousins of the bride. The eucharistic ministers were Mark and Jane Hackert, aunt and uncle of the bride.

The reception was at Drexel Hall in Kansas City.

The couple honeymooned in Jamaica.

The bride received her master of architecture degree from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln in May 2000. She is employed as an architect for Piper-Wind Architects, Inc. of Kansas City. The bridegroom received his bachelor of science degree in horticulture with an emphasis in landscape design from UNL in May 2000. He is employed as a landscaping and lighting designer for Rosehill Gardens of Kansas City.

The couple is making their home in Kansas City.
