Happy trails, West Ward

Tuesday, May 27, 2003

Austin Lambing (middle photo) reads a paragraph about what he liked about West Ward Elementary on Friday, at the Wild West Ward Roundup, a farewell party that commemorated the school and 78 years of education within its walls. Behind him is his older brother, Adam, who served as master of ceremonies for the event. The party featured many guests, including Miss Rodeo America Lori Bortner (bottom) of McCook, songs performed by the Centralaires, 2003 McCook High School graduate Jill Hansen, teachers Rose Sitzman, Principal Nancy Prosser-Weedin and others, including Charles Coleman and Edna Brush (top) who sang "Happy Trails." Scott Hoffman, staff member for Sen. Ben Nelson, read a letter from the senator recalling the day his mother walked him to his first day of school at the building. Friday was the last day of school for the West Ward students and the building itself.
