Posse recruiting members

Thursday, August 28, 2003

The Red Willow County Sheriff's Posse is looking for a few good men and women.

The Posse is conducting a membership drive, and encourages all Red Willow residents, 21 years old and older, with a good moral background, to apply for membership.

The Posse is a service organization for the county and its communities, Johnson said, under the direction of Sheriff Gene Mahon and his officers.

The Posse provides traffic and crowd control and assists the sheriff's department with searches. Fall activities will include ball games and community celebrations like McCook's Heritage Days.

Posse members are not involved in the enforcement of the law, and carry no guns, said Tom Johnson of McCook, the Posse's vice president.

The Posse encourages husband-and-wife teams, Johnson said. Uniforms and equipment are furnished.

Regular meetings are scheduled on the second Thursday of each month.

Interested persons may pick up application forms at the sheriff's office at 502 Norris Avenue (the two-story beige brick building behind the courthouse), from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.
