The young and the young-at-heart participate in activities during Holbrook Days. Erin Sheffield of Farnam was among other 4-Hers who exhibited lambs before judge Rich Chouquette of Franklin. Eighty-five-year-old Lyle Story of Holbrook and 10-year-old Mitch Spanel of Holdrege represent the age span in the horseshoe-pitching enthusiasts who competed in the park Saturday. Kathy DeVries, a member of the Holbrook Days committee, said the relentless heat may have discouraged attendance at some events, although generally the celebration went well. "The heat slowed down the river rat volleyball," she said, "and, of course, there's no water in the river." Kathy said organizers didn't have as many volleyball teams as in the past, but are not discouraged -- they'll start planning Holbrook Days 2003 soon.
