McCook Seniors 1-3 at NP Tournament

NORTH PLATTE -- The McCook National Bank American Legion Seniors posted a 1-3 record at the North Platte Baseball Tournament Saturday and Sunday.

The Seniors dropped to 14-7 overall.

McCook defeated Rapid City, S.D., 12-3 in five innings and lost 3-1 to Kearney, 8-3 to North Platte and 3-2 to Rapid City.

In the victory over Rapid City, McCook posted four straight three-run innings -- the second, third, fourth and fifth.

The Seniors pounded out 10 hits.

Derick Lorentz homered and doubled. Matt Serbousek, Jeff Holthus and Eric Anderson each had two hits. Jason Eder scored two runs.

Quentin Pohl and Adam Kotschwar contributed singles.

Eder pitched a five-inning complete for the victory. He allowed five hits, three runs (two earned), struck out three and walked none.

Rapid City scored its three runs in the third inning on a single and two doubles.

In the 3-1 loss to Kearney, McCook was limited to four hits -- singles by Holthus, Eder, Al Shiers and Wade Felker.

Serbousek pitched well in a losing cause. He allowed three runs (all earned) on four hits, struck out six and walked five.

All three Kearney runs were scored by Tony Kuhlamke.

In the 8-3 loss to North Platte, Lorentz pitched a complete game. In seven innings, he allowed eight runs (six earned) on nine hits, struck out three and walked one.

McCook pounded out 11 hits, but stranded nine runners. The Seniors scored one run in the second inning and two in the second.

North Platte scored two runs in the first, one in the third, three in the fifth and two in the sixth.

Serbousek went 3-for-3 and Holthus 2-for-4. Lorentz and Felker doubled. Pohl, Matt Beckenhauer, Anderson and Kotschwar singled.

Jared Piper singled, doubled and scored three runs for North Platte. Jerome Vieyra singled, doubled and scored three runs.

In the 3-2 loss to Rapid City, Holthus pitched a seven-inning complete game in a losing cause.

He allowed three runs (one earned) on six hits, struck out five and walked one.

McCook scored one run in the second and one in the fourth on 10 hits.

Serbousek went 3-for-4 with a double. Kotschwar went 3-for-3. Spencer Walter, Pohl, Shiers and Anderson singled.

"This weekend, we didn't do a lot wrong," said McCook Seniors coach Tye Hallowell. "But it was a weekend where we didn't do enough to win.

"They were close games and good competition. We have to give credit to the teams that beat us."

McCook will host North Platte at 8 tonight at Jaycees Sports Complex.

The McCook Juniors play North Platte at 5:30 p.m.

The Juniors were scheduled to play at the Lexington Tournament during the weekend, but the tournament was canceled because of rain.
