Rebels 10 and under girls fastpitch squad takes first at Gothenburg

GOTHENBURG -- The McCook Rebels 10 and under girls fastpitch softball team went undefeated at the Gothenburg Rebels Angels Classic Saturday and Sunday.

The Rebels earned first-place medals and a first-place team plaque with a 3-0 record.

Because of rain on Saturday, the Rebels played in a round-robin format on Sunday.

The Rebels defeated the Cozad Classics 1-0, the Gothenburg Angels 4-1 and the Lexington Lightning 8-1.

"After a tough first game against the Cozad Classics, where we played well defensively, but had a tough time hitting," said coach Lance Gillen.

"We came back the next two games and as a team hit much better."

The Rebels played at Cozad Tuesday and host a 6 p.m. doubleheader Thursday against Lexington.

The Rebels' record is 8-2.
