The McCook National Bank Seniors dropped an 8-0 decision to Ogallala Tuesday night at the Jaycees Sports Complex.

Coach Tye Hallowell sent Derick Lorentz to pitch for MNB. Lorentz (3-4) allowed eight runs on nine hits and struck out six Ogallala batters in a complete game seven innings.

Five different MNB players connected for five hits in the ballgame.

However, they could not scrap together a multi-hit inning and stranded 10 base runners in the shutout.

Hallowell was not happy with the 15-of-21 outs that came from MNB batters pop-ups. "We had too many pop-outs. We've got to hit the ball on the ground and put our good team speed to use," Hallowell said.

Ogallala scored one run in the second inning to break the 0-0 lockup.

Then, Ogallala blasted McCook for six runs off of five hits, including a Brian Harris home run, in the top of the fourth frame to put Ogallala on top 7-0.

Ogallala would tack on one more run in the seventh to make the final 8-0.

"In their big inning, Lorentz was struggling and let the hitters get on top of him in the pitch count and they took advantage of that. But, that was the only innings that he did have any problems in," Hallowell said.

Despite the loss Hallowell said his team can turn it around for their game against North Platte tonight. Game time is set for 8 p.m.

MNB's next home game is 6 p.m. Friday against Beatrice.

The "Alumni team vs. 1993 State Championship team" game starts at 3 p.m.
