NORFOLK -- The McCook Rebels 10 and under girls fastpitch softball team posted a 1-2 record at the Class B state tournament July 4-6 at Norfolk.

In their first game, the Rebels lost to the Elkhorn Fire 11-2 in five innings.

Then they defeated Lexington Lightning 12-0 in three innings and lost to the Lincoln Swingers 6-1 in five innings.

The Rebels qualified for regional tournament play, but declined the trip because of the cost.

The Rebels, coached by Lance Gillen, finished the season with a 15-8 record. McCook placed first in one tournament, second in another.

"The girls had an excellent season for their first season together," Gillen said. "We played excellent against tough competition in the second half of the season."
