Oberlin volleyball teams sweep Wheatland, Hoxie
OBERLIN -- The Oberlin High School varsity, junior varsity and ninth grade volleyball teams opened the season Friday with a sweep of Wheatland and Hoxie.
The Red Devil varsity defeated Wheatland 25-18, 25-12 and Hoxie 27-25, 25-18.
The JV squad defeated Wheatland 25-15, 24-26, 15-11 and Hoxie 25-12, 25-19.
The Oberlin ninth grade team did not play Wheatland, but defeated Hoxie 25-16, 25-15.
Hoxie's varsity defeated Wheatland 25-22, 25-15 and the JV won 15-25, 25-23, 15-13.
Kansas schools adopted rally scoring this season. The first two games are played to 25 points, but a third game is played to 15.
In the Wheatland varsity match, Oberlin's top server was Abby Ream, who was 13-for-13 with two aces.
Kelsey Dorshorst was the top passer with 23-for-24 with six digs.
Ream was 20-for-20 setting with nine perfect sets. Sarah Ruf was the top hitter with 22-for-25 attempts and 13 kills. Rena Unger had 4 blocks.
In the Hoxie match, Leah Marietta was 14-for-14 in serves with four aces. Unger was 18-for-20 passing with four digs. Ream was 18-for-18 in sets (nine perfect). Dorshorst was 18-for-19 hitting with seven kills. Ruf had five blocks.
