What I'm Missin'

Mmm.
It's been a fun vacation in the ol' US of A. On September 1st, I leave my quiet, small town retreat to go back to the Communist Regime that I now call my 2nd home.

This brings a variety of feelings from elation to sorrow. I have a lot of history in this place and I'm always deeply sad to see it go but find that the thrill of adventure consoles my phantom limbs slightly.

Aside from family and friends, a thing I miss greatly is FOOD.

Yes, I've always been quite partial to certain beverages and delicious delights that I simply can't get in China that I thought I would share with you. These are things I've committed to eat at least once while I came back and things that you should stare at for a great while. Stare at them and thank Uncle Sam that you can have these things whenever you like whilst I dream of them like sugarplums in an infants' Christmas Eve dream.

Drinks that I can't get in China:

  • Jones Soda.
  • Mountain Dew.
  • Sobe.
  • Dr. Pepper.
  • Volt.
  • Vanilla Coke.
  • Cherry Coke.
  • Cherry Pepsi.
  • Milk that isn't soy.
  • Slushees.
  • *good* coffee, cocoa.
  • Root Beer (Other countries tend to think it tastes like medicine).
  • Any local 21+ beverages aside from expensive import stores.
  • Free refills (Only in the states, people. Only in the states.)

Foods that I can't get in China:

  • Sandwiches (Aside from the occasional Subway, you really can't find bread or lunch meat to make your own sandwiches with)
  • Steaks that are thicker than 1/4 of an inch.
  • Steaks that don't suck.
  • Mac's Drive in.
  • Mexican Food (By the way, I went to the new place in town, terrific).
  • Wendy's.
  • Arby's.
  • Burger King.
  • Runza.
  • Movie Theater Popcorn that tastes good.
  • Cheeze Its.
  • Twizzlers.
  • Milk Duds.
  • Red Lobster.
  • Pizza aside from Pizza Hut (They don't have thin crust!).
  • Jimmy John's.
  • Home made Fried Chicken.
  • Good corn on the Cob.
  • Mashed Potatoes.
  • Baked Potatoes.
  • A deli.
  • and finally,

    Cereal.

    Enjoy and count yourself lucky.

Healthy is better, it's true. But it's damn good!

Think about it, Nate. You are going back to a system where most of the food is healthy. You are just leaving behind, mostly, 'junk food.'

Have a great experience in China, again.

Respectfully, Arley Steinhour

Hey Nate! Wish I would've been in McCook while you were back...it's been a long time! Hope you've had a nice time back in the states!
