E3

Good Day!

I realize that first articles usually warrant an introduction or some type of heralding event which qualifies me to be writing to you today. My only art supplies for this picture I paint are the copious amounts of passion that explode from me regarding the entertainment industry itself.

Over the next week I will be focusing on Gaming in general, simply because this is a big week for it.

This week is E3, or the Electronic Entertainment Expo. This event was/is one of the major gaming events of the year. Last year and every previous year before it, E3 was the premiere event. The big to do. Nintendo, Microsoft, Sony as well as every other developer made an appearance to showcase new games, systems, and viral marketing campaigns. However, last year the executives of E3 decided that the millions upon millions of dollars worth spent on it had made the function too large for itself. Thus, they made E3 available to only a select few media household names such as Nintendo as well as several (hundred) gaming journalists. They still show new games at E3, it's just not open to the several thousand other ravaging fans who went to preview the new games.

I feel the need to clarify. If gaming was a rock concert, E3 would be Woodstock. It was huge. Because of this closure of the former E3 to the public, many other events have flourished this past year. One of the largest is PAX, or the Penny Arcade Expo. It appears that gamers just can't get enough of the carnival.

Fear not young ones! Your trepidations are in mind when I tell you that the majority of gaming announcements and Coup d'état's are still held at E3. I've also heard that quite a few indie (small group developers. Garage bands, if you will.) are heading towards the extravaganza as well.

Over the next week, I will be showcasing and writing about the major events of E3, and what it means for us consumers on the receiving end of this vast new world.
