Adios Old Friend
Most readers know that I'm a Jeep guy. I've had a Jeep brand vehicle continuously for well over 30 years... until now that is. My "Blackie" has a new owner, and I'm Jeep-less in Cambridge.

It's our summer weather that caused me to make the decision I thought I'd never make. You see, "Blackie" doesn't have air conditioning. My last Jeep was bought new in November of '96. It went through a transition from stock to highly modified over the years, and I really thought I'd never get rid of that Jeep. We lived in Colorado Territory, so air conditioning wasn't needed, especially for most of our 4 wheeling experiences searching for abandoned mines and ghost towns throughout Colorado.

Living here has made me soft I guess since "Blackie" is gone because I won't drive around in the summer heat anymore at my "advanced" age without air conditioning. Well, at least the Jeep has a home where I can visit now and then... my daughters place in Colorado.

Being without the Jeep is strange, and I wouldn't have let "Blackie" go without some careful thought. Margie and I talked it over, and I decided we'd get another Jeep (Margie reluctantly agreed I think). It's on order through Faw's Garage in Arapahoe, and has been for what seems like forever now.

I figure this will be the last Jeep I buy and I'm getting exactly what I want. It's got air conditioning! Oh sure, it is "Trail Rated" for what that's worth around here, but fortunately our business involves travel, often to areas where there are 4 wheeling opportunities so the new Jeep will see a lot more than just gravel roads. I put on over 150,000 miles not counting the 75,000 towed miles on "Blackie" and I expect the new owner will get many more miles of smiles. I hope to get similar longetivity with our new Jeep but until it arrives, I am going through Jeep withdrawal-expectation disorder.

While I wait on delivery of our new Jeep, I've been reduced to searching the internet for Jeep stuff. Do you have any idea how many Jeep videos there are on Youtube? I do! There are some great vintage Jeep ads, history stuff from WWII, and of course Jeeps doing really incredible off road feats.

Our new Jeep was assembled in Toledo, Ohio, the same place the original Jeep was built, on 10 October. Who knows where it is now, but it must be getting close to Arapahoe I hope. Jeep is one of the most "american made" vehicles available I'm proud to say.

OK, so I'm a walking billboard for Jeep, and I'll wrap it up with the following video...
