Knock Knock... Who's There? Anybody?

"Nebraska's Hot Spot" was a term I could get behind, and I admit that "The Go-To City of Southwest Nebraska" doesn't have the quite the same ring to it for me, but it could almost make more sense. You see, I believe there is a lot of opportunity around here.

I've written many times about how much Margie and I like living in this area. It's true, besides the outdoor recreational activities, SW Nebraska has a lot to offer employment wise. Take a look in the employment classified section of the Gazette and you quickly see there are quite a few decent jobs available especially for a city the size of McCook. Driving around town you see "Help Wanted" signs up in numerous places. Too much work and too few workers.

Try, go ahead and TRY and find someone that will call you back about all sorts of around the house renovations or improvements. If the outfit has an answering machine, as far as I'm concerned, it has proven to be the business tool to "ignore the potential customer".

I want a yard fence built. Now it is entirely possible that I am calling the wrong place but... Do you think I can get the fence company around here to call me back? Either their answering machine is broken, or my work just isn't enough for 'em is what I figure since they don't call back. Now if my work isn't up their alley, at least I think they should call me and tell me so.

OK then... I want to find a handyman to do it. Well... where are you handyperson that wants to work? I figure you must be so good that your referral work keeps you from advertising, or I sure missed your ad.

I ask folks around here for a referral... few folks can offer a referral, but when I get one, I call, get an answering machine, leave a message, then never get a call back with one very big exception... JL Construction who got my steel building business. Very frustrating. It seems with most referral work, if you're unknown to them, you don't exist.

I'd love to keep my money in SW Nebraska, but it appears if I want to contract the work, I'll be seeking somebody from along the Platte River. They may actually want my money.

Knock Knock Knock... SW Nebraska apparently needs people willing to work!

Don't forget! If you get tired of waiting for them to contact you, and you hire someone else. That's when you get the phone call about how you made a big mistake by hiring the business from out of the area!!

Brian,

If you have anyone contact you, and need even more work, I am also seeking a Handy-Dandy-Person, for things I no longer have energy to do, yard care, and things like that.
