Happy New Year! I'm glad last year is behind me and hope this new year improves from it's rather crappy start.
My year ended with my mothers health taking a dive, my father-in-law being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, and the IRS after me for my hobby web site making too much money to be considered a hobby.
This year is starting off with my mothers health not improved, Margie's aunt in Minnesota passed away, my father-in-law hospitalized with seizure and stroke after starting chemo, and me starting a business to satisfy Big Brother. More on that later.
It's amazing how things can balance out now and then and with the unpleasant start of the year came some fun. Tri-Valley Health System had their annual recognition/holiday party for employees and volunteers Saturday night here in Cambridge.
Margie and I got to attend as we volunteered at the Cambridge hospital or Manor nursing facility (Margie really gets the credit for volunteering, I just pushed a wheel chair a couple times). There was excellent food (is there any function in Nebraska that doesn't include food?), entertainment well beyond what I was expecting, and an opportunity to visit with folks we cross paths with often around town but seldom get to visit with.
A brief note on the entertainment... I'm getting to be a hick I guess and don't get out much, so perhaps you are well aware of the musical group called "Tre Sostre & The Gentlemans's Club" that I just heard. If you have not heard them, I recommend you go out of your way to hear them... I will in the future! This 6 person group had me dancin' in my chair with tunes from Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy to the Eagles "Take It Easy". I think they played something anyone would enjoy, and I was disappointed when they were done for the evening!
Now back to Big Bro... I'm steppin' over the line from hobby to business. I've contacted a lawyer and set the wheels in motion to become an official small business LLC. For those that don't know, LLC stands for limited liability company, which is legal mumbo jumbo for how much you can be sued for if you ask me. I've formed my business plan, got my product already producing income, and now I'm working on record keeping and accounting issues.
After initial research, I'm thinking I'm jumping from the pan into the fire. Paying taxes on my hobby income was easy, report it and pay, not so easy for a business. I guess I'm taking a step backward and am not retired anymore.
And one more thing... Go Broncos! Nice to see my guys beat the defending AFC champs.
