Close Calls

The weather has been pretty nasty in these parts lately. Yesterday morning found Cambridge with some pretty major storm damage depending on where you live. The hit and miss nature of severe storms is hard to believe unless you see it first hand.

North of town farms took it on the chin with some hail damage nearby and what wasn't hailed on looks like it was whipped from the winds. Beyond our barn roof flopping in the breeze, just 500 feet away our neighbors old barn that used to be protected by a windbreak stands no more. The abandoned windowless farm house next to the old barn looks like nothing occurred. The nearest non-guyed power power is being held up by the power cables themselves it appears. Trees are snapped off like twigs or completely uprooted and moved. Formerly neatly stacked irrigation pipe is wrapped around a tree.

A short distance closer to town, pivots are destroyed, and roofs are missing shingles. Some places escaped completely it appears.

In Cambridge, a very large roof mount air conditioning chiller was ripped off the roof of the hospital taking the plumbing with it as it was tossed about. Large trees ended up on the highway or laying against homes. The cemetery has broken and uprooted trees and headstones. One of the antennas on the one of the communication towers looks like it is going to need some repair as it sure isn't straight anymore, and I'm sure there are some opportunities for roofers as many homes have suffered roof damage.

We were lucky. I've got my work cut out for me removing the broken trees around the farm(stead), We've got some damage, but nothing like what happened just 500 feet away.
