Sittin' On An UGLY Gold MinePosted Thursday, May 19, 2011, at 10:17 AM
And The Winner Is...
I think the state is sittin' on a gold mine right now. Our state vehicle license plates are UGLY! OK, so that is my opinion, but it's not the only one in the neighborhood. Survey says 4-1 of survey respondants think that our new design of a Goldenrod with a Meadowlark is UGLY! The one out of 4 surveyed so far that likes the new plate was 8, but I respect her opinion. Still, I bet the state could generate more revenue than they imagine by offering alternative license plates. Makes sense if you only have one option and it's UGLY. Our last trip to Colorado Territory had people actually ask what was on our license plate. Good design selection job there Nebraska. Not only could you NOT pick a design without big-time controversy involved, outsiders don't have a clue what's on it, it's hard to read, and you picked the one that's UGLY. Did I say it's UGLY? I hope so! I voted online for the loser which isn't really a great alternative, and in case you don't recall the license plate controversy read this... http://journalstar.com/news/local/articl.... BTW - If our plates looked anything close to what is shown in the link, I could live with it easier. Our surrounding neighbor states offer... Colorado - Has 7 different types of plates broken down into even more sub categories... http://www.colorado.gov/cs/Satellite/Rev... Wyoming - 13 different license plates are available... http://www.dot.state.wy.us/wydot/titles_... South Dakota - http://www.state.sd.us/drr2/motorvehicle... Iowa - Over 50 available... http://www.iowadot.gov/mvd/ovs/plates/in... Missouri - Their license plate web site is so sophisticated that you can even see the way your plate will look in advance... http://dor.mo.gov/motorv/plates/ Kansas - Offers a list of 25 different license plates... http://www.ksrevenue.org/dmv-plates.htm And now look at Nebraska... We can choose the standard plate (UGLY), a GO BIG RED Nebraska Cornhusker plate that is red and white (better be a fan!), variations with the new Meadowlark and Goldenrod background, and a design for those with qualifications like being a Purple Heart recipient. With our license plate design coupled with the fact that we're stuck with them until 2017, I wish the state would offer some alternative for a price. I'd pay a few bucks extra and not be ridiculed for my states license plate design by a bunch of whiney Colorado Territory residents. Worst part is I agree with them. Bad thought just hit my echo chamber: If this caught on, wouldn't the State be prompted to make the 'regular' plates even uglier, so as to force, psychologically, of course, everyone to reject the 'normal' for the 'creative??' (that means purdier, I think.
A thought,.,. (^8
Back when I was growing up and walking backwards uphill both ways in 10ft snow drifts to school. We were lucky to just have one license plate.
