Fight Back Against CancerPosted Monday, March 7, 2011, at 5:24 PM
From the Furnas County Relay For Life...
Volunteer for the Relay For Life of Furnas County
(Cambridge, NE) -- The local American Cancer Society office of Furnas County is looking for volunteers and teams for the annual Relay For Life of Furnas County.
Relay For Life is a fun-filled, overnight event that mobilizes communities throughout the country to celebrate survivors, remember loved ones and raise money for the fight against cancer.
Survivors and current cancer patients, caregivers, families, businesses, civic organizations, and the public are invited to take part in this exciting team event. Relay For Life of Furnas County will take place on June 24, 2011 from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. at the Cambridge High School Track. If the forecast is rain, the event will be held in the Cambridge High School gymnasium. This year's chairman is Judy Hayes of Cambridge with Lorenda Forbes as Co-chairman of Beaver City.
Relay For Life raises awareness about the progress against cancer while also raising funds to fight the disease. Individuals who are willing to give their time and energy to this exciting event have made a commitment to fight back against cancer and let the community know that cancer can be beat.
Teams gather during the Relay event, with tents and sleeping bags to participate in Relay For Life, the largest fundraising walk in the nation. This event unites friends, families, businesses, hospitals, schools, and churches ... people from all walks of life. Teams seek sponsorships prior to the Relay, all with the goal of supporting a cure for cancer. The Relay For Life of Furnas County has a goal of recruiting 25 teams, and $45,000, for this overnight event.
Volunteer Team Captains are needed to organize and recruit team members, seek community support, coordinate logistics, find refreshments and prizes, plan entertainment and lend their support in any way. Team Captains and Team Members are the "foot-soldiers" in the fight against cancer. Teams are made up of people who share a passion and commitment to raise money for The American Cancer Society. Fund-raising efforts are culminated and celebrated at the actual Relay For Life event. If you think you have what it takes...sign up now!
Teams can be composed of friends, families, co-workers, companies, churches, social clubs, offices, small businesses...and the list goes on. Any combination of people (and this year the team members are unlimited) can be a team...as long as they share a passion to fight back for a cure.
"By organizing early, teams have more time to raise money for the American Cancer Society," said Kathy Benson, Team Chairman for this year's event. "Each team member who raises $100 will receive a Relay For Life t-shirt."
To register a team or for more information, contact Kathy Benson at 308-697-4342, 308-697-3835 or stopping by First State Insurance. A Team Captain meeting is scheduled for March 23 at 6 p.m. at Cambridge Lanes. You can register your team online at http://www.relayforlife.org/furnascone.
