An Exercise In FutilityPosted Tuesday, February 22, 2011, at 9:17 AM
and the response I got... http://www.mccookgazette.com/blogs/hoag/... Our Congressman Adrian Smith never responded. What brings the above to mind is that I'm off on another quest for information from our elected officials. The US Constitution provides two ways for amendments to be proposed, and one way has never been tried. I want to know how the people of the state of Nebraska can compel the state legislature to to request a Constitutional Convention? I've started my information quest by writing my state senator Mark Christenson and Attorney General John Bruning. I didn't hear from Mark Christenson and I wrote him last November, but I got the following response from our State Attorney Generals Office... Dear Brian: Thank you for taking the time to contact our office. We feel the most appropriate persons to address your question would be your federal delegation in Washington D.C. We encourage you to contact Senator Ben Nelson, Senator Mike Johanns or Congressman Fortenberry, Congressman Terry or Congressman Smith with your questions.
(Insert name, website, and address of all Nebraska federal elected representatives) We appreciate your interest and concern in contacting our office, and hope the information provided is helpful. Sincerely, John Bruning, Attorney General Liz Eberle Constituent Services Director
OK... so the head law guy in Nebraska can't tell me how citizens of the state compel the state legislature to do something that is in the US Constitution, so I've now written the same three guys that our Attorney General referred me to that I originally called political cluckers requesting how we Nebraska citizens/taxpayers/voters can compel our elected officials to call for a constitutional convention? I'll let you know the response or lack thereof. A reference about amending the Constitution... http://www.archives.gov/federal-register... Secret to successful queries: Invite the Representative over to discuss a ten thousand dollar donation. Trap set and baited, they will come with bells on. While dining on some home grown, and cooked chicken, you casually inquire about something of deep concern to you. They will sputter (have extra napkin available).
You may not receive an answer, worth taking to the bank, but at least you can receive, what you receive, from the person we hired to 'Think,' not an expert 'Say nothing' assistant.
To close the evening, you need an escape clause. Perhaps, 'I have received nothing of import, from you, Mr/Ms Representative, so I will reciprocate by donating the value of that answer.' This trick will only work once, as Representatives do have excellent memories concerning those who do and do not contribute to the 'war-chest.' Just a thought. (back to my poetry, where I pick the good guy, and the bad guy) (^8
