One Solution

Cash For Clunkers... What an industry it could spawn! The destruction of all those clunkers and turning them into useful products suitable for resale even. Using the picture above as inspiration, couldn't you just imagine a return to real horse powered transportation and all the jobs it would create? There would be an immediate need for farriers (horseshoe installers), and of course there would be a public outcry for street cleaners.

More jobs would be needed to haul all the feed necessary for all the horses needed, and there would of course be an immediate need for education classes to learn how to be a teamster. There would be a much greater need for veterinarians, and tack shops would spring up everywhere again.

Air polution would cease to be a problem, and our national dependence on foreign oil drops to zero. World markets fall as the USA shifts it's economic power into the horse powered alternative energy era...

WAKE UP BRIAN. It appears I've been sleep typing again.

Something about Cash For Clunkers, while being a real boon for car dealers according to reports on the news, seems likely to be a real boondoggle for taxpayers. Since the government poured billions into GM and Crysler, we're still pouring cash into the auto industry with the Clunker program.

Still... my sleep typing above does point out that no matter what solution is presented for a problem, there is likely never an easy answer.
