In Search Of Truth - Ag Issues

Posted Wednesday, September 10, 2008, at 10:09 AM

I mentioned the other day that most of what we read and see on TV relating to the upcoming elections is strongly biased one way or the other. According to a recent poll, most of us are more interested in the personalities involved than the issues. Glaring misinformation is rampant on both sides of the fence so for those of us more into the issues...

Today I stumbled on a Wall Street Journal opinion about the GOP and middle America, and wonder what YOUR take is on this article? At first glance, it is so strongly left leaning and filled with personality attack that I might have rejected the entire article, but near the end, a quote attributed to the president of the Kansas Farmers Union caught my eye and I'd sure like to hear about or be pointed to other sources of information that refutes the articles claims...

Specifically... "Barack Obama may come from a big city, but the Farmers Union gives him a 100% rating for his votes in Congress. John McCain gets a 0%." The above quote is attributed to the president of the Kansas Farmers Union. He goes on to say "If any farmer in the Plains States looked at McCain's voting record on ag issues, no one would vote for him."

The only reference I saw about Senator McCain's history was a lot of rhetoric, and opinion.

I didn't see any support for a 100% score for Senator Obama, other than a statement of opinion.

Character assassination, by innuendo, seems to have progressed to a fine art these past thirty, or so, years.

Study the candidates, please, then vote your heart and mind, not someone else's.

In my searching, I did find mention that the National Farmer's Union has 1500 members. Seems like a small group...

They have a list of "Outstanding Leaders" on their website: http://nfu.org/news/2008/09/08/nfu-annou...

I've been off the farm for many years, now, so won't express an opinion on their stance. Perhaps those that are interested should read the site and see if they agree.
