Conflicted

Posted Tuesday, January 20, 2009, at 10:51 AM

I was literally sick to my stomach on Sunday when I was perusing the on-line "big" time papers.

The LA Times had a headline - and I am NOT making this up - " An American Coronation".

I literally couldn't believe there was a decent editor out there that would have used Coronation in regards to the inaugural. Coronation - denotes royalty - excuse me... the original George W. ( as in Washington) made certain we didn't have coronations. We have coronations for prom or homecoming king and queens but NOT for the presidents of the land.

As our nation starts down a new course today, I am conflicted. With the economy in such dire straits, so many people out of work, there is a big ... party going on. Hmmm...

Okay - before I get slammed here, I understand the historical importance of Mr. Obama taking over the top job in the land. I get that. But where or when is the CHANGE?

But as most of us are struggling to make ends met and having to juggle, who the heck is paying for all the whoop-la-te-da-ness? Seriously - they wanted to 'unite' the country - well - hey, maybe the new "establishment" should be sending a big check to each of the working Joe and Josephine's of the world instead of paying for a big fancy party.

I don't agree with the premise that our out-going president was the sole individual to blame for the country's troubles. Everyone seems to forget there are 500 plus legislators governing. Plus I don't think the President was running the auto companies or the investment or financial companies. Wouldn't it be refreshing to see a congressman or senator stand up and say - hey folks we didn't do enough either. Wow - now that would be CHANGE! That will never happen in my lifetime.

While there is a part of me which would like to believe in the alleged change that is supposed to be sweeping the land, there is the cynic in me that is shouting that it won't happen anytime soon.

Conflicted. Conflicted. Conflicted.

PS: On a personal note - my dad is sitting up on a cloud somewhere watching all the festivities and enjoying ever bit of this. Democrat to the end. Enjoy the show Poppy.

Here is an ABC news clip about where some of the funding comes from... http://cosmos.bcst.yahoo.com/up/player/p...

The piece sure shows how much money talks, at least in the eye of some of the extremely rich.

Conflicted? I think a better word for me would be enraged, disappointed, or maybe I should feel releived that I was right. The money for the inaugeration is coming from special interest groups that Mr. Obama said could not buy him. This confirms what I have thought for decades, the presidency along with every other office in the government is not ellected, it is sold to the highest bidder. Why else would special interest groups or corporate leaders throw thier money at these people. There wont be any changes made. We will pay the same, if not more taxes to help pay for the mistakes of incompetent businessmen that have bought a piece of our government. You might see an end to the current war, but there will be another. There will be no improved health care system. Insurance companies have supplied the economy with too many jobs trying to extort money from us, and they own a piece of the government too. The people that make equipment for the healthcare industry also need to sell million dollar pieces of equipment that are no more advanced than a color television, these people own a piece of the government too. And we will continue to allow illegals to immigrate to this country and steal our culture, take american jobs, destroy communities, and over populate all of the jails and prisons because the people that recruit and import these workers own a piece of our government too. I thought Mr. Obama was apalled when the CEO's of the auto industry arrived in Washington in private jets to ask for a bail out. At least he is getting a piece of the bail out money back. Party Hard Mr. Obama

Hats off to Brian Ross - ABC News for getting this information out there!! - That is the clip that Brian listed in his post.

Wow - again - money talks and that is the only way to get politicians to listen... Seriously - the change was just campaign rhetoric.

Conflicted - is not quite adequate at this point.
