Rocky Horror Picture Show

So I haven't been blogging lately due to the holiday season and being extremely busy - mostly to being extremely busy. However, I did want to take some time out to do a little promoting for a thing called First Night. First Night is an event that I am sponsoring through Divine Productions, Spotlight Studios, and Game On. Divine Productions is helping out the effort to bring this event to McCook on New Year's Eve. First Night is a celebration of community in downtown McCook that starts at around 7pm on December 31st, 2009 and the last parts end in the morning hours of January 1st, 2010. There are all kinds of events going on including the ones I am hosting. First, let's get the ground rules out of the way. You need a button to get into most events free and some events at a lower price. The buttons cost $5 for adults and $3 for youth and can be bought at Game On and other places around McCook. Once you get the button, get the schedule and plan on coming to the events on New Year's Eve. Divine Productions will be hosting the DJ Dance which is completely free with a button. We plan on doing this outside in the city parking lot behind McCook Glass and Mirror which will have a fire pit to make your own smores. The dance starts at 9pm and lasts till about 11:30pm when you should head down Norris to get in line to march up the street to the Keystone where there will be a countdown and balldrop at midnight complete with fireworks and awesomeness. But don't go home yet...the best is next.

Divine Productions has secured the rights to play the cult classic Rocky Horror Picture Show at the Historic Fox Theatre and we will be doing this at 12:30am on January 1st so as soon as the fireworks end and the ball has dropped, come on over to the Fox and get ready to watch a classic flick. Due to the cost of securing the rights to such a film, there is a admission charge with a button at $2 and if you don't have a button, you can still come but it costs $5 instead.

I am super excited about Rocky Horror at the Fox. I had a chance to go into the Fox and fire up a projector and test everything out and it is AWESOME! We've got all the audio hooked up and everything ready to have a great show and we can seat well over 600 people so there's plenty of room to come down and experience what other cities around the USA do on a weekly basis. Rocky Horror is still shown at theatres all over on a weekly basis at Midnight. A lot of fans dress up as thier favorite characters from the movie and sometimes even reenact the scenes from the flick in the aisles. There are a set of 'rules' that one follows when watching the movie at these special screenings like throwing a piece of popcorn in the air when the Bride and Groom walk out of the church in the beginning of the movie. There are also many moments when the audience shouts back at the screen specific sayings. It's pretty hilarious and makes for an even more entertaining experience. While we encourage you to dress up to come out to the Rocky Horror showing - its not necessary. We have many people that are familiar enough with what to do at specific moments during the film that you'll also get a chance to experience what it is like to be at one of the theatres that plays Rocky Horror weekly. All in all, it will be a great way of bringing in the new year by watching a cult classic in a historic theatre.

The full synopsis of the movie goes: A newly engaged couple have a breakdown in an isolated area and must pay a call to the bizarre residence of Dr. Frank-N-Furter. The flick is full of zany musical numbers and loads of fun. It originally came out in 1975 and when the film first opened, it had a traditional release, playing afternoon and early evening screenings. It bombed. Meat Loaf said he attended an opening week performance with director Jim Sharman in the Midwest where the theater was empty except for them. In the mid-1970s, midnight screenings became popular and word of mouth began to spread that the midnight audience might enjoy this film. It began showing at midnight in a few cities and it became popular, to the point that it has been shown continually in movie theaters since 1975, making it the longest theatrical run in history. The the Museum Lichtspiele cinema in Muenchen, Germany has been screened the movie every week since 24 June 1977, offering special "RHPS-Kits" to enable celebrations during the show.

Rocky Horror Picture Show is truly an original, never to happen again film and it's going to be loads of fun to have show at the Fox Theatre right here in McCook. It is rated R but is pretty tame by today's standards and probably would have possibly hit a PG-13 however we will require anyone underage to have a parent's permission to enter.
