Another Month Over...Posted Saturday, October 31, 2009, at 9:02 PM
It is October 31st at closing time for Game On. We are unusually slow tonight -- mainly because of all the activities to do on Halloween night. The whole Westview Plaza is pretty slow actually which is a nice change from the craziness that it can be with our tournaments and the movies at Cinema 3, but we are looking forward to November and the amazing amount of things that we've got going on.
Number one on my list is Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 for the XBOX 360 is coming out on November 10th and we have been taking preorders for about 6 months on this one with LOADS of people that can' t barely hold back the excitement as the day the game is released is getting very close. Game On is preparing by locking in preorders this next week and holding a release tournament on November 9th starting at 7pm. We will run the tournament till Midnight when the game will officially go on sale. It's going to be an exciting night and I hope you all have a chance to come out. I'll try to post pictures afterwards for those that couldn't make it.
On a completely different path -- I managed to watch Couples Retreat at Cinema 3 and it is absolutely spectacular. It's getting pretty bad reviews across the board but doing pretty good at the box office with $77 million already collected going into this weekend. It's a little cheesy and the actors are exactly doing Oscar worthy performances but its got some good jokes, some heartfelt moments and just enough amazing scenery to keep most of us glued to the screen for its relatively short running time. I recommend this flick.
I also had a chance to watch Aliens in the Attic which releases on DVD on Tuesday the 3rd. It's a fun family flick but I didn't quite make it all the way through it as it gets a bit boring even with aliens running around. The other big movie coming out on Tuesday is G.I. Joe and I reviewed it when it was in theatres and still agree with my original assessment. Check out the original review at http://www.mccookgazette.com/story/15610....
Other than watching some movies, I've had an intense competition with Andrew Ziebell at Game On over the arcade games Donkey Kong and Ms. Pac-man. Currently, Andrew holds the high score in Donkey Kong and I hold the high score in Ms. Pac-man. We welcome anybody to take on our scores, which we feel are pretty good. Anybody out there remember playing these old arcade games? What were some of your high scores that you remember? We've been having a great time playing them at Game On now that we've got an bonafide arcade machine right in the store.
Spotlight Studios is ending it's first month of classes and we've had a great time. I'm excited to move forward as we are planning to do a Christmas show if everything continues to fall into place. If you haven't stopped in, come on down and check out all the stuff we've got going on -- you might even find yourself a dance or fitness class to participate in!
Divine Productions has schedule the next Quick Takes session for November 15th and 16th. Times are starting to fill up so if you are interested in getting a 20 minute session for your family or children at no cost, then give us a call! We are working on putting together a Christmas theme for those that want to get Christmas cards plus setting up some more backgrounds if you don't want a Christmas theme. It's gonna be a great time and print packages start at just $12!
I am going to be a very busy person in November with all this stuff plus I'm planning a trip up to Kearney to take in the Disney on Ice show. The last two years, the fam and I have made it to the show and looks like we'll continue it this year. I'd love to see something like this in McCook. Maybe the new Events Center at the College will be able to handle some bigger events to come through that are similar to Disney on Ice. I sure hope so.
As per usual, this is a pretty far reaching blog post...kind of wrap-up post to finish the catch-up post that will hopefully see me updating with things a bit more regularly. If you haven't already, become a fan of Divine Productions, Spotlight Studios, and Game On on Facebook. Links are below.
