State of Play and Earth

State of Play

This is an interesting flick and one that I thought I wouldn't like. I do enjoy watching Ben Affleck, but Russell Crowe is a hit and miss type of guy for me. Sometimes he's great such as Gladiator, and other times, well he's just terrible. Anyways, the combination of the two made a pretty good suspense flick. The plot revolves around a scandal that happens around a Senator who just happens to be the friend and college roommate of one of the best reporters at the newspaper. After lots and lots of reveals, the story starts to become deeper than the initial scandal. It's an involving storyline, but tends to get a bit bogged down in its own cleverness at times which is the real killer of this film. If they could have kept the intense tone throughout the film, this would have been top notch, however it gets wordy and manages to move forward enough to be able to fall back a bit. This constant moving forward and falling back with the story leaves a tad to desire and drops the movie down. I enjoyed the film, but had some troubles keeping my attention on it at times. Well worth the rental - just make sure you have nothing else to do before you sit down to watch it.

This is a documentary about Earth and the wildlife around the world that inhabit the planet. Very informative and interesting if you like watching things you would have seen in a school classroom. Otherwise, it's a bit tedious. My daughter enjoyed watching the animals and had tons of questions like - "What is that bird? Why is he doing that? Where do they live?" and more. I eventually got tired of answering questions and never finished the flick myself. It can be pretty amazing in parts especially on Blu-ray when you see the beautiful landscapes and animals of planet Earth.

That's it for this week.
