The Soloist and Race to Witch Mountain and ObsessedPosted Tuesday, August 4, 2009, at 12:03 PM
Movies this week were actually pretty decent -
Race to Witch Mountain This flick is a remake/redo/re-something of the original Disney movie series and is quite good. They do a great job handling action and adventure in a family setting. The movie is interesting, well acted, and the special effects are top of the line. This movie is great family entertainment that even the adults won't mind getting into. I highly recommend Witch Mountain and suggest everyone keep your eyes on AnnaSophia Robb - who will most likely become a very good actress as she grows up.
The Soloist This is a slightly boring, true story of a homeless man who is befriended by a reporter. The reporter writes stories about the homeless man and how he ended up on the streets after going to Juliard and being a gifted young musician. Robert Downey, Jr. and Jamie Fox are the two actors that take up all the screen time and while they both do an excellent job acting - the script lacks a bit in entertainment and although the director does take some time to be 'artistic' with his shots and presentation - the overall effect is some boring parts. I was impressed with the overall story but there was just that spark that was missing to make it a great movie. I'd recommend watching the film, but not while you are tired - you may end up drifting off to sleep during one of the slower parts.
Obsessed Didn't watch this one. Here's a description - Derek Charles (Idris Elba), a successful asset manager who has just received a huge promotion, is blissfully happy in his career and in his marriage to the beautiful Sharon (Beyonce Knowles). But when Lisa (Ali Larter), a temp worker, starts stalking Derek, all the things he's worked so hard for are placed in jeopardy.
That's it for this week - next week, we've got pure awesome in the form of 17 Again and I Love You, Man. |
