The Reviews

Hellboy 2

I actually had a chance to watch this in theatres and was pleasantly surprised with the flick. My opinion stays the same on DVD, so check out the original review - http://www.mccookgazette.com/story/14481....

Star Wars: The Clone Wars

This is the latest money grabbing technique from George Lucas. He basically handed off Star Wars to a couple people who created a story with some of the main Star Wars characters and added a few more annoying sidekicks. To top it off, they made it animated with only 2 of the actual cast lending their voices to the respective animated character. The story is just awful and will hardly satisfy even the most die-hard Star Wars fan. The animation is stylized but hardly beautiful or eye-catching which begs the question as to why they choose to use it. Obviously, it is based on the animated show that was on Cartoon Network but that was stylized with purpose and finesse. This is animated with crap. Can you tell I was disappointed in this film? I would not recommend this film to anyone.

Sukiyaki Western Django

This is an interesting flick that shows the American Western genre has expanded into the Japanese/Chinese shores and they have made their own western. The movie is in English which was a relief as I did not want to read subtitles. After experiencing the flick - I enjoyed it but not as much as I thought. I was hoping for a 'cult classic' type of film based on what the DVD case proclaimed but it was actually a pretty straightforward western. So, it's worth watching, just not the best.

Kung Fu Panda

This was a great movie. Very stylized and beautiful animation with a great story. I enjoyed it from beginning to end. The voice casting was really well done with Jack Black doing his normal Jack Black thing as the Panda, but it works, so why complain? The whole movie centers around the panda getting into Kung Fu and being told he was the Dragon Master. I won't ruin any of the story, so that's enough plot description. The real issue is why are you still reading this? Go out, rent it, come back and comment! Go now!

That's it for this week. Remember to comment for a chance to win a free movie rental from Movie Gallery.

I watched both 'Hellboy 2' and 'Clone Wars' last night, and I watched 'Kung Fu Panda' Sunday... so here I go...

'Hellboy 2' was a good movie... I still like the first one better, but here's what I think of 2. 'Hellboy 2' is Guilmerro del Toro's ultimate 'Hellboy' version of monsters and myths.. if you have seen 'Pan's Labyrinth' you will notice some similarities in the mosters (i.e the 'tooth fairies' and 'death'). The action in it was amazing, with good fight scenes with the Prince. It seemed to focus more on comparing the 'monsters' to humans, which was a good take I thought. I found one of the best parts of the movie where Hellboy and Abe got drunk and sang 'I Can't Smile Without You'.

'Clone Wars' was an utter disappointment. For children that might not exactly know what's going on in the world of Star Wars... it's good... but, for hardcore fans... no...

'Kung Fu Panda' is possibly one of the best movies I've seen all year... the celebrity voices for the characters was great... It is a great family film... Great comedy (the humor in it was fairly good) and it is probably my favorite 'Dreamworks' flick...
