Another week, another batch of new flicks.
First up, The Other Boleyn Girl. Let's just say I was excited to see this movie for reasons other than the story, it had one of my favorite actresses in it, Natalie Portman. The story seemed decent enough as well since it was based completely on the real life events of Ann Boleyn and her sister. I think most everyone knows how Ann became Queen and soon after was killed for allegations of incest and treason. Both allegations lead to her beheading. It's an interesting story and well portrayed by the movie. I was most interested and found it to be a great flick. It can be a bit boring in places as the dialogue tends to stretch to the outer limits as there is absolutely no action in this film at all, unless you count giving birth, as that happens a good deal as the King is in constant pursuit of a male heir. What is most interesting about this story, is the fact that Ann Boleyn did not produce a male heir to the throne, but instead gave birth to Elizabeth, who became quite the Queen. For more info, go check out the movie Elizabeth with Cate Blanchett playing the title role. It's another good flick. Anyways, The Other Boleyn Girl has some great acting, wonderful base story, and great set pieces. I was entertained and recommend checking this one out.
The Bucket List Reviewed it in theaters and my opinion has not changed. Check out the original review here - http://www.mccookgazette.com/story/13038...
Jumper Another flick I had the chance to review in theatres. Once again, the opinion hasn't changed, so read the original review here - http://www.mccookgazette.com/story/13114...
Funny Games Here's a flick I wanted to watch but ended up not having enough time for reasons explained by going to this blog - http://www.mccookgazette.com/blogs/1126/.... Either way, here's a description. In this provocative and brutal thriller from director Michael Haneke, a vacationing family gets an unexpected visit from two deeply disturbed young men. Their idyllic holiday turns nightmarish as they are subjected to unimaginable terrors and struggle to stay alive.
That's it for this week, come back next time for some Fool's Gold. |
