Hairspray, Live Free or Die Hard, and Santa Clause 3Posted Tuesday, November 20, 2007, at 9:43 AM
There is an amazing amount of new movie releases this week to keep people entertained through the Thanksgiving holiday. Movie Gallery in McCook has them all stocked and ready to go!
First up, Hairspray.
As many of you might know, I reviewed this in theaters. My outlook has not changed and I only enjoyed it more the second and third times around. This is an excellent musical and well worth a rental. Check out the full review at http://www.mccookgazette.com/story/12512....
Second, Live Free or Die Hard.
I wasn't able to catch this flick in theaters and I am sad that I didn't. It really is a great action film worth viewing on a theater screen, however the transfer to home theater is very good and will have to suffice. If you have never watched any of the previous 3 Die Hard movies, then you'll probably still follow along with this new installment, however I recommend going back and watching all of the first 3 and then watching Live Free or Die Hard, as it make the experience so much better. There are many little nods back to the older films and that is a nice touch. The main story plot is not really the necessary to know. What is necessary is that Bruce Willis is back and beats the crap out of a bunch of bad guys while getting pretty beat up himself. A good old Die Hard flick! This one is a great time and the newly released UNRATED edition adds back in the foul language from the first 3 that was sorely missed in Live Free or Die Hard by most critics who saw it in theaters.
Third, Santa Clause 3.
There isn't much I can or cannot say about the Santa Clause series. If you liked the first two, this one is more of the same, but adds in some more wackiness with Martin Short who plays Jack Frost. Jack is the villain this time around and Tim Allen who plays Santa Clause has to save Christmas yet again! Nothing original but a good family flick for Christmas. May be a good film to watch after Thanksgiving dinner with the whole family.
Fourth, Rescue Dawn.
Christian Bale stars as a POW based on a true survival story. A very powerful story about a man who is captured by the enemy and his struggle to survive and escape. Without giving away plot details, the story is exciting and entertaining to watch while also being somewhat educational about POW's. A very good flick that is propelled by the amazing acting abilities of Christian Bale.
That was FOUR very good movies with Hairspray and Live Free or Die Hard my favorites of the week. Check them all out and more at Movie Gallery in McCook.
