Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer

Posted Monday, October 1, 2007, at 10:37 AM

As with every Tuesday, Movie Gallery beckons movie lovers to come check out all the new releases available for rental. This week, I hit up the new Fantastic Four.

Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer

This show picks up directly after the first Fantastic Four movie and does very little to explain the film's universe, thus it is almost required to view the first Fantastic Four before popping in this new one.

If you are familiar with comic books, you know that Fantastic Four has always been a bit more on the 'family' issues side and this movie does a lot to keep that intact. However, they also strive to keep the rating as far away from R as possible, so many scenes are reduced from grown up talk to simplified children speak. This and the somewhat lackluster action sequences keep the film rated PG. Something the filmmakers arguably strived for which leaves a huge target audience. This film is 'safe' for just about anyone to view.

The new movie has the Fantastic Four battling family issues of getting married, having and raising kids, getting along, teamwork, and more. They also have two new villains to worry about, the Silver Surfer and his master, Galactus. Dr. Doom from the first show comes back and adds another twist. This line up of villians are trying to destroy the earth. The Fantastic Four are left to find out why and stop it. The Silver Surfer becomes more than he seems as the line between enemy and friend is blurred.

Kids will love the newest entry into superhero cinema, however adults may find it a bit harder to swallow. However, it is worth a watch and will provide a good night of entertainment for the entire family.

Check back next week as Evan Almighty, Surf's Up, and more are coming out. The place to get them is Movie Gallery in McCook.

Cody, I'm having problems. I can post a comment but I'm having problems getting to where I can post a new blog. I'd like to post about how much fun I had at the parade and Heritage days and about the Balloon Fest. Help Please.
