Perfect StrangerPosted Tuesday, August 21, 2007, at 9:57 AM
This week was so busy I only had time to watch one video rental for the week. There are many new releases though including The Lives of Others, Broken English, and more. The Lives of Others is a foreign film that won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Film. From what I've seen, it should be pretty good.
Perfect Stranger I was able to review one movie and I chose Perfect Stranger. This movie stars Halle Berry and Bruce Willis. It is a thriller that centers on Berry's character. She is a reporter covering a scandal in Washington, but the story is covered up by powerful men with money and she quits her job. Soon, she is involved in seeking out the killer of one of her childhood friends in hopes to break the story first. The story takes some twists and turns and eventually has a 'shock' ending. Originally, this film did not do well in the Box Office. It had decent numbers but was not the hit it was projected to be with two big name stars attached. I was genuinely intrigued by this film as it has just enough plot twists to keep you watching. Both Berry and Willis play the characters well without giving away the whole show. I liked the fact that the script added a third character, played by Giovanni Ribisi, that kept the storylines crossing each other. If he wouldn't have been in the film, the story would have lost some of its likability. Overall, Perfect Stranger is a good thriller for anybody looking for a good show. The acting is spot on, the directing is tight(even though it lacks any style), and the story propels the whole machine forward in brisk pace that keeps the audience engaged. I would recommend this show for anyone. I think the main reason this film didn't do well at the Box Office is due to a stream of thriller movies flooding the marketplace. Perfect Stranger is a well-made flick that deserves an audience which it should find on DVD. Perfect Stranger as well as the other new releases are available at Movie Gallery in McCook. Check them out and let us know what you thought. |
