As God Parted the Water
As God Parted the Water
By Arley Steinhour 033118
Seven days of Bread, No Leven,
As Israel, departs ‘Egypt Land,’
Out of Egypt, to Gain Safe Haven,
A Million plus Souls, feeling Grand.
Four-Hundred years in Servitude,
Born and raised under Egypt’s Rule,
From, Honored Guest, unto Pursued,
Ending their Slavery, Ever so Cruel.
Elected by God, Moses had Returned,
To Egypt, in Demand, ‘Let my People Go;’
Pharaoh Refused, Ten Plagues-Overturned,
Moses, allowed to ‘Take his People in Tow.’
The reason was Harsh, ‘Death of First Born,’
But, not of Israel, with ‘Lambs Blood on Door,’
Lintel, and Posts blooded, so ‘Death Passed Over,’
Pharaoh’s Son Died, and He could take no more.
For days, they did walk, to the South and East,
Following a Cloud by Day, to be Cooled by Shade,
Pillar of Flame, by Night, with no time to feast,
Nibbling Matzah, in their ‘Run from the Blade.’
Pharaoh, determined to ‘Flay Israelites Dead,’
On Chariots, he swiftly set off, in ‘Hot Pursuit,’
Moses, he thought, must be Filled with Dread,
As they followed a Wadi, to Red Sea, and Dispute.
‘Why did you save us, just to Die by the Sea?’
Wailed the people to Moses, ‘with No Way Out,’
‘Stand Still,’ Moses ordered, ‘Watch and See,
The Hand of God, will Save,’ Moses did Shout.
Great-Breath-Wind Blowing, ‘As God Parted the Water,’
Plus, Drying the ground, for their Easy Transition,
Ten miles, they ran, after ‘Cry from Rear Spotter,’
Pharaoh, and Chariots, might achieve their Ambition.
Crossing, also, on Dry Ground, ‘Chariots closed the Gap;’
As Moses, and Israel, attained ‘Safety, and Freedom,’
God, quit Blowing, and the ‘Water Became a Trap;’
Red Sea became, ‘Pharaoh and Army’s, Mausoleum.’
You can Take Israel out of Egypt, God Assisting,
But, can’t take Egypt out of Israeli, with Ease,
Forty Years, they needed, of ‘Wilderness Existing,’
That, I’ll Rendition, in another poem, ‘If You Please.’
AMEN
