Final Race Call

I wish to tell a story,
Of a boy, age Eleven,
How his Picnic Glory,
Indicated, he was ‘Driven.’

A Nineteen Forty Nine, ‘job-sop,’
Be, Summer visit to Uncles home,
A month to Grow, Learn, and Shine,
Assisting Uncle, in Butcher-Shop.

‘Ask Questions,’ he barked at boy,
During Labors, questioned Uncle ‘Dutch,’
What, When, Why, How, the incessant ploy,
Absorbing every word, as gospel crutch.

In that month, came the ‘Picnic Occasion,’
That brings this Life Venture to Light,
The ‘Moose Lodge,’ Annual ‘Fun Recreation,’
Congregation, Food, Drinks, and Sporting Delight.

Well thought out Races, and Showing of Skill,
Dutch told his nephew, twas ‘O K to Compete;
But, don’t expect to win, just play in Goodwill,’
At Cheyenne’s altitude, ‘Prairie Breath, Incomplete.’

The Skill Tests were many, and boy competed,
From Axe-throw, to discus, even ‘Batting a Ball,’
Many Races were started, with boy Undefeated,
Refusing Awards, unto ‘Second Place, Gave All.’

Uncle was Proud, to have the Boy, as his Nephew,
The Praises ran loud, to Glorify the Day,
Twas not in the Winning, but, ‘Glory,’ boy Knew,
Be Rewards, ever growing, when Meeting his ‘Stay.’

Through his life, that young boy, has given his All,
In many ways, he cheated, to be able to Win,
He Did, for the Glory, he’d Receive at ‘Final Race Call,’
Not understanding, until Reflections from Spirit, Within.

The boy, now much older, the Race has been Won,
He, now spends his day, witnessing, to them that Seek,
To have what he has, in what they missed, in their Run,
Through all of mortality, until they meet God’s Son.

The moment of truth, the part that I fear,
Is this moment I tell, the truth of the boy,
I Cheated the others, by competing in a ‘Gear,’
Blessed by God, in Death, and Returned as a ‘Decoy.’

Don’t get me wrong, this boy lived, much as others,
But, with abilities, not seen, until it was Time;
Today, we are close, to ‘Leaving Behind,’ brothers,
If we don’t Witness now, we may not be ‘Sublime.’
