SOUTH PACIFIC BRAG
SOUTH PACIFIC BRAG
By Arley Steinhour 032513
To my daughter Rebecca
If I may take some time to brag,
I'd like to mention an Island hag,
A special woman, of devious means,
Presenting almost mystical scenes.
She acted in the Broadway play,
Performed by locals yesterday,
Eighty people took their part,
Drove an arrow into my heart.
The Play, was of South Pacific fame,
For what went on, the perfect name,
Like Shangri-La, not on all maps,
Where hate and war were Satan traps.
They sang, they danced, as actors do,
Hard to tap, with sand and no shoe,
But, like their voice, each step sang,
Even, at times with Hillbilly Twang.
The regal Frenchman fell in love,
With a young Lieutenant, from above,
The problem, he had children, two,
That complication she couldn't see through.
The Sailors, all, were 'Lost at Sea,
Off beaten path, of even War, they be,
The only recreations allowed,
Was for 'Men Only,' a Social Shroud.
But, back to that one, of whom I spoke,
She, filling the play with love and joke,
To make a 'buck,' she wouldn't tarry,
Her misgiven name, be 'Bloody Mary.'
She didn't have the leading role,
She wasn't the island, but more the shoal,
Protecting natives, from Sailor boys,
Island girls were hidden, not used for toys.
Mary sang, and hopped, and crude, no fluff,
Selling shrunken heads, and grass skirt stuff,
With voice so haunting, did steal the heart,
Soul-mated to her, audience felt her part.
We laughed, we cried, with Bloody Mary's charm,
With her, on Tiny Island, without doing harm,
We sang, along, seat danced our parts,
She filled every inch of our happy hearts.
If by chance you didn't attend the show,
You had a much better place to go,
You missed an experience you should'a-otter,
You missed loving Bloody Mary, my talented daughter.
AMEN
