Top notch high school football performances from Week 3.
*Jake Findley-Giltner - 24-29 passing for a staggering 448 yards and 4 touchdowns against D-2's number two Kenesaw. Findley also rushed for touchdowns on runs of 1, 5 and 11 yards in the Hornets 59-17 romp. Kenesaw all-state QB Tyler Schnitzler ran for 180 yards on 21 carries in the loss and had 157 of those by halftime. He left the game in the 3rd quarter with severe cramps.
*Jordan Slough-Doniphan-Trumbull - Junior had 319 yards and 5 touchdowns...all from long distance, in a 58-21 pasting of Wood River. Slough scored on runs of 36, 66, 58, 53, and 38 yards. After having 740 yards as a freshman, Slough had to sit out last season due to a late transfer problem. I'll bet the Cardinals are glad he's back.
*Isaac Aakre-Millard North - The all-state quarterback rushed for 271 yards on 35 carries and scored all 5 Mustang Tds in a 38-28 win over 6th rated Kearney last Thursday. Aakre scored on runs of 42, 1, 23, 1 and 9 yards. The slick running all-state QB now has 651 yards rushing after 4 games.
*Trey Barnes-Seward - Scored 4 touchdowns on runs of 3, 7, 56, and 2 yards in a Bluejay 39-21 win against rival York. Barnes rushed for 148 yards in the game, putting at 688 for the season. Barnes leads Class B in rushing this year.
*James Kruger-Norris - 2 year 1000 yard rusher exploded for 269-22 carries in a 42-14 win over Columbus. Kruger scored on jaunts of 5, 23 and 80 yards. Kruger is one of the best I've seen in the past 2 years.
*Andrew Bader-Centennial - The 170 pound junior cranked it up with 182-23 carries in a 38-16 win over Palmyra. Bader hit paydirt from 5, 13 and 1 yard out. Bader had 750 yards a year ago to lead Broncos.
*Joel Wiedel-Fremont Bergan - Rushed for 149 on only 10 carries as the Knights blasted Weeping Water 38-6. Wiedel scored on long distance runs of 49 and 75 yards and returned a punt 87 yards for another score.
*Luke Glenn-Shelton - The 2 year 1000 yard man blasted for 185 yards on 21 totes in a 72-28 win against Fullerton. Glenn has 479 rushing yards for the year and 11.68 yards a pop.
*James Kann-Ft. Calhoun - 170 pound senior QB couldn't have done much more to help his team paste Ashland-Greenwood 46-12. Kann ran for 157 yards, passed for 190, intercepted a pass, made 4 solo tackles, and blocked 2 extra points. 'Spose he washed all the team uniforms after the win too?
*Dakota Van Landingham-Beatrice - 2nd big game in a row for the bruising 190 senior. Van Landingham gouged Blair for 267-28 carries. The Orange need every one of his yards to subdue the Bears 23-16. Dakota has run for 430 yards the past 2 weeks and now stands at 521 yards for the season (4 games).
*Rashad Trimble-Bellevue East - Has this guy been flying under the radar? Trimble punished North Platte with 300 big ones on the ground on 17 carries. He scored on 89, 10 and 73 yards in the Chieftains' 37-9 win over the 'Dogs. On 2nd thought, with 487 yards for the season, Trimble is probably not sneaking up on anybody.
*Eli Van Matre-Gibbon - The 140 pound dynamo is running at a torrid pace in 2012. Van Matre rushed for 261 yards on 18 carries in the first half in the Buffalo's 54-7 win over Ainsworth. He sat out the 2nd half and now has run for 787 yards in the 1st three games.
*Devin Washington-Lincoln Southeast - 2011 Super State RB finally broke loose when it counted in a 35-27 win over Creighton Prep. Washington rushed for 189-22 carries and scored from 8, 39 and 45 yards out in the win for the Knights.
*Ely Hroch-Diller-Odell - Remember this guy from a week ago (216 yds)? Well, he was at it again in the Griffons 39-30 win over Johnson-Brock. Hrock ran for 287 yards and buoyed a tremendous comeback for Diller-Odell, who trailed 30-15 after 3 quarters. 503 yards rushing the last 2 weeks, not bad. Hroch has 536 for the year.
*Lane Barnhill-Falls City Sacred Heart - Scored on runs of 23, 65, 13 and 27 yards in the Irish 64-20 blasting of Axtell, Kansas. Good to see Barnhill back after tearing an ACL in game 3 and missing most of 2011.
*Jake Paulsen-Cozad - :10.6 sprinter left Broken Bow defenders in the dust and he ran for 209-25 carries and scored on runs of 5, 41, 7 and 11 yards in the Haymakwer's 49-7 romp. Looks like Pauslen is just getting cranked up.
*Zach Rouzee-GI Northwest - 1st year quarterback completed 23 of 36 passes for 258 yards and 5 Tds. in the Vikings' 55-23 route over Lexington. Rouzee is now the state's passing leader with 1,149 yards in just FOUR games.
*Logan Gier-Omaha Burke - How does 23 yards a carry sound to ya? Apparently not too good to Lincoln NE because Gier pierced the Rocket defense for 204 yards on 9 Carries in the Bulldogs 45-7 win. Logan scored on runs of 51 and 54 yards.
*Izack Wilcynski-Twin River - Rare indeed to see a 100 yard plus runner for a passing oriented Twin River team. Wilcynski ran for 164-21 totes in a 39-30 win against North Bend. He hit the end zone from 35, 31, and 19 yards out.
*Zach Creeva-Southern - Talk about making profitable use of time! The 175 pound senior quarterback rushed for 150 yards on 8 carries and returned two interceptions of 41 and 95 yards for scores. Southern beat Louisville 35-12 as Creeva's running mate Tyler Shalla got his 135-12 carries night in to help out.
*Marcus Claussen-Wausa - Splendid athlete ran for 101 yards on only 7 carries and scored twice in limited action in Wausa's 71-16 trouncing of West Boyd. Claussen now has 513 yards for the season on the ground.
*Lane Yates-Omaha Westside - Holy smokes, this kid is on fire when he gets the pigskin. What a job the O-line must be doing to open those running lanes, because Yates ripped Fremont for 276 yards in the Warriors' 58-13 victory. It's the 3rd consecutive 200+ game for the 180 pound junior. Lane hit paydirt with scoring jaunts of 28, 17, 18, and 8 yards. Yates has 833 yards to date and is easily the Class A leader in rushing.
*Isaac Wallace-Ralston - Junior RB continues to impress the Rams' opponents with his zig-zag running abilities. Wallace gained 137-17 touches in Ralston's 41-7 win over Nebraska City. Wallace now has 478 for the year on the ground.
*Matt Gooch-Howells-Dodge - Tough running senior ran for 149-20 carries and on TD runs of 37, 12 and 2 yards in Jaguars 36-6 win over a very good High Plains squad. Is it just Howells-Dodge alone at the top looking in the rear view at the rest of Class D-1.? Coach Mike Spiers is that good.
*John Marquard-Wallace - 5-10, 160 pound junior QB helped his team bounce back from a 74-22 loss to Paxton in a big way. In a 51-26 win over Loomis, Marquard rushed for 149-17 carries and passsed 197 yards. He scored on runs of 14, 1, and 69 yards and tossed 25 and 69 yard TD strikes.
*Jake Slager-McCook - Jackhammer runner punished Gering with 123-20 carries in the Bisons' 26-7 win over the Bulldogs. He also spearheaded a stingy defense that allowed only 131 total yards, 75 of which came on Gering's final drive of the game.
*Britton Ferguson-Elm Creek - Ran for 164-15 carries in EC's 33-22 win over South Loup. The 165 pound Britton, who was listed as a Center on the pre-season sheet, must be liking that running back glory about right now after throwing all those blocks from his center position.....every lineman's dream.
