Week 7 Heroes and State Passing Record Highlights.....
*Potter-Dix Quarterback sets State Single Game Passing Record*
Once upon a time, in a faraway place in the West, there were a couple of brothers that practiced pass and catch with a football.............a whole bunch! The Potter-Dix brother duo of Jordon and Ty Ottoson's practice payed off in a big way Friday night in Wallace. Senior and older brother Jordon Ottoson set an apparent State Single Game Passing record by completing 32 of 45 passes for an amazing 487 yards and 7 Tds. That eclipses the old mark held by Tyler Kracke of Nebraska Lutheran, who threw for 481 in a 2001 game against Exeter-Milligan. Ty Ottoson was on the receiving end of 17 of those tosses for 249 yards and 4 touchdowns in the Coyotes 90-68 win over Wallace. The combined total of 158 points is also a state record.
For good measure, Jordon rushed 19 times for 11 yards and 5 TD's. teammate Cory Halligan was in on 29 tackles in the scoring explosion. You've probably guessed by now the Ottoson brothers are the top QB-Receiver duo in Class D-2. After 7 games, Jordon has completed 128 of 226 passes for 1,905 yards and 25 scores. Younger bro, Ty has nabbed 70 of those aerials for 1,162 yards and 14 trips to the house. To put Ty's receiving yards in prospect, D-1 Ewing prospect Austin Kaczor has 750 receiving yards thus far in D-2. It is safe to say that Jordon and Ty Ottoson of Potter-Dix are my heroes of week 7! The Coyotes are on the playoff bubble, but have a rugged regular season finale at home against powerful Hayes Center this week.
Now let's get to those other week 7 Heroes:
*Christian Dudzik-Omaha Skutt - SkyHawks passed a huge test by beating Waverly 33-17. Dudzik rushed for 151 yards on 21 carries, scored on runs of 23, 12 and 33, was 13 of 20 passing for 128 yards and finished the evening with 278 total yards. Dudzik has rushed for 816 yds for the season.
*Kelby Seyl-Norfolk catholic - Came up huge in the Knights 21-14 win over rival Pierce. Seyl escaped on scoring runs of 80 and 58 yards on NC's 2nd and 3rd possessions of the 3rd quarter and put the 'Jays in a deep hole. Kelby is at 783 yards for the year in the rushing dept.
*Kyle Erickson-Millard North - QB broke the 1000 yard mark with 149-30 in a crucial 13-10 win over O. Burke. Erickson has 1,047 this season.
*Vincenzo Guido-Millard West - He and Darius Evans each had over 100 yards rushing in the 'Cats 27-7 "W" over Bell. East. Guido ran for 129-20 and Evans 115 on only 8 touches with three going for Tds (73-2-3) Guido has 838 rushing now.
*Ron Coleman-Omaha North - His 140 yards against Papio South put him 8 yards away from 1000 yard season number 2.
*Cleo Miller-Omaha Benson - Bunnie RB helped his team clinch a playoff spot by rambling for 204 yards on 25 carries. Teammate LaQuan Cribbs dashed for 142 yards on only 8 carries. Miller is now at 868 for the year and could become Benson's first thousand yarder since Kenton Keith way back in 1997. In fact Keith was the only Benson back to ever break a 1000 yards, turning the trick in 1996 also.
*Nick Mizaur-Creighton Prep - Notched his second 1000 yard season in a row with a 206 yard effort against Bell. West. Mizaur now has 1,031 yds.
*JORDON COOLIDGE-Lutheran High NE - QB ran wild with 366 yards on only 16 carries in a 40-8 win over Plainview. Coolidge let them know what kind of a night they were in for by blasting for 211 yds and 3 Tds in the FIRST QUARTER.
*CLINT BELINA-HOWELLS - The splendid runner sprinted for 166 yards on just 9 carries. SIX went for Tds on runs of 20, 24, 18, 18, 11, and 41yds. BELINA BECAME ONLY THE 23RD player to crack the 5000 career rushing mark. He now sits at 5,121 yards and has run for 1,161 this season.

*Mark Swerczek-Cedar Rapids - His 199 yards and 5 TD's put against Elgin put him at 1,059 for the season. Swerczek is the Tigers first 1000 yarder since Derek Hutchinsen turned the trick in 1993 (1,313).
*Sean Campbell-Pleasanton - Rushed for 159-34 carries and shocked Sargent by returning the opening kick-off 67 yards for a score. Campbell is at 1,212 for the year and the "Dogs are looking good in D-2.
*TYLER MELNICK-NORTH LOUP-SCOTIA - ran for 405 YARDS ON 23 carries and SIX TDS, including 294-19 in the FIRST HALF as the Wildcats trimmed GI Heartland Lutheran 70-44. Melnick's explosion propelled him to 1,130 yards for the season. Not bad for a team that has won only twice.
*Brock Sherman-Crete - Blockbusting 210 pound Junior rumbled for 199-39 in a 21-0 win over Beatrice. Sherman is only 24 yards from a thousand on the ground. Jace Bohway form Beatrice did hit a thousand with his 19 yards on 12 carries (1,012)
*Joe Marshall-Malcolm - Tough runner cracked a thousand with a 130-29 in a huge win over Wilber-Clatonia 9-6. Joe has run for 1,080 yards so far in 2009.
*Kendall Kucera-Centennial - QB threw for 286 yards in a 36-14 win over Madison. Three of his strikes went to Track sensation Tyler Wullenwaber, who caught scoring passes of 33, 50 and 48 yards. Wullenwaber is getting some D-1 attention.

That, my friends is a lot of outstanding performances for one week! Keeps getting better and better as the regular season enters it's final week. By late Saturday morning, we will all know who qualified and who is going where. Several key games on the docket this week, including the Class B dandy pitting Adams Central and number 1 Aurora. Classes C-1, C-2, D-1, and D-2 playoffs get underway a week from Thursday the 29th, with "A" and "B" following the next night. The Holy Season is almost here!
