  • GearJammer,

To present that photo with the President of the United States -- obviously attempting to connect him with Joseph Stalin and Adolph Hitler -- is the absolute height of stupidity.

You are going far beyond the bounds of legitimate debate.

This response will be followed with a copy and a strong suggestion that the GAZETTE Publisher and management terminate their connection with you.

  • During President George W. Bush's terms not only did the run pictures with Hitler, they applauded a film that portrayed his assassination. You commies/Marxist need to get the facts straight. Also this government, lead by Obama, is taking more control of this countries private industry than any other liberal in the history of the USA, FDR and LBJ included. So I would say that based on history, the the Democratic Party today will rank with Stalin and Hitler in that regard. Not that they will openly imprison or kill the opposition to their ideas and policies. This health care bill will be the weapon of choice for their take over of this country because the government will ultimately decide what is in the patients best interest not a doctor. With that kind of control the sky is the limit on remaking America and shredding the US Constitution. It will be interesting to see how the United States as a whole will react to this. We have seen a very strong opposition to the health care bill (law now) but I have yet to see massive rallies for it. And for those that actually think that congress is going to change what the President has signed through reconciliation as they promised to get it through the house, WAKE UP.

Look out, 12-15 million new voters for liberal causes, in the form of amnesty for illegal immigrants, is up next.

  • Also to make the picture accurate, you should add Pelosi, Reid, Hoyer, Rahm, and the liberal sheep (Ben Nelson leading the sheep of the Democratic Party) that currently are elected to the US Senate and House of Representative because I don't think that our current President could do this alone. And if our constitution means anything anymore, the system of checks and balances and the three co-equal branches requires it to implement this broad of a change to the very foundation of this great country. I forgot the constitution doesn't mean much to liberals these days. So the current US President cannot exist in the picture alone, at this time.

The picture Sam posted above is merely there to show the men that gave their citizens Universal Health Care.

This is something a 5th grader could have told you!!

Are you smarter than a 5th grader?? I doubt it!!

"OTTAWA - A protest by hundreds of students led organizers to cancel a Tuesday night speech by American conservative commentator Ann Coulter"

This is from Msnbc article you referenced. It does not report that Coulter canceled. I have hunch that given the option, Coulter would have spoken, confronting the 2,000 students threatening violence. Freedom of speech must be only free if we agree with it, right?

    -- Posted by boojum666 on Wed, Mar 24, 2010, at 12:19 PM
  • Loud, I am going to take Boojum's side in this discussion.

"Threating Students, Security Risks, there were no incidents". Nothing said about arrests. I can't interpret the article as imagining that the students were going to invite her to tea. I have to agree with Boojum, Coulter is not afraid to speak her mind and would have welcomed the controversy.

Fred Phelps has no standing in this discussion, leave him out, shine no light of recognition upon him or his group.

Do uber-conservatives consider Canada a socialist nation? Seriously? What about all of the uk? Australia? Finland? Israel? I can go on and on. I just don't get the logic here.

Also, will people ever shut up about the misconception about socialism? If you truly feel the way you do have fun without:

  • Nebraska's Democratic Senator, Ben Nelson, urged the university to reconsider its invitation.

"I join many Nebraskans in disappointment that Bill Ayers has been invited to the University of Nebraska at Lincoln," Nelson said. "His past involvement in a violent protest group and incendiary comments are not consistent with the agenda of unity that we need in America today."

    not all "con bots" eh

phelps is a dark stain on society with his tactics of trying to disrupt a funeral of one of the men or women who died for our country.

Now if he protested at the pentagon or recruiting storefront his opinion wouldn't be so offensive. Or perhaps in front of a democrat or republican's house who voted to send our men and women in harms way.

  • Gi I believe there is huge difference between verbal bombs and real bombs. Ayers escaped prison due to a failure to secure the proper warrant for survailance, so now he is able to present his views. He can go pound sand if not permitted to speak at a Public University such as UNL. Let him go find some private venue.

He should be in prison for what he did.

-- Posted by Fundin on Wed, Mar 24, 2010, at 4:09 PM
  • Well GI that is just a tough rag to chew isn't it, that Ayers was not allowed to speak at UNL.

As I believe, Ayers has the right to speak at any private forum he could arrange, so he should do that and stay out of public funded forums. That is what I said. Individuals supporting UNL with their donations have the right to end that support if UNL allows a real bomb thrower on campus to speak. The flamers threats of violence that occured were wrong and shouldn't be condoned.

-- Posted by Fundin on Wed, Mar 24, 2010, at 5:22 PM
  • "So boo, you agree that Bill Ayers was wronged by Nebraska Conservatives, at least as far as free speech is concerned?"

    No, he was not wronged.

Bill, you think it was just conservatives that objected to Ayers invitation to speak at unl?

the was a wide range of people, students, past faculty, regents that objected to the invitation.

His freedom to speak wasn't limited, just the location.

Leader of the 1960s and 70s domestic terrorist group Weatherman

"Kill all the rich people. ... Bring the revolution home. Kill your parents."

Participated in the bombings of New York City Police Headquarters in 1970, of the Capitol building in 1971, and the Pentagon in 1972

Currently a professor of education at the University of Illinois

In Fugitive Days, Ayers reflects on whether or not he might use bombs against the U.S. in the future. "I can't imagine entirely dismissing the possibility," he writes.

this is the type of rehtoric and believes the Nebraskans, democrat, republican and student objected to.

  • G.I.

Speaking at a University is a privilege, not a right. The people were outraged at having a violent bomber who believes in "world communism" (his organization's words, not mine), thinks Robert Kennedy's assassin was a political prisoner and justified his bombings by saying that they killed more of his own people then people in the public. That's some sick and twisted logic but that's how radicals think. I'm sure you just want me to "see it from his perspective" but I'm sorry, there are some things that will just never make sense no matter how a person tries to spin it.

Our actions must have consequences and this is not the first university that has refused to allow him to speak. This is a consequence of his actions. He...planted...bombs...in...public!!! Hello, what part of that makes you think "oh, he should definitely be allowed to speak at the public university"?! If Ted Kaczynski ever got off on technicalities, he shouldn't be given the honor of speaking in a university forum either and there are people who claim Kaczynski is a genius with published theories but that doesn't mean he should be honored at a university or anywhere else for that matter. That's all Bill Ayers is, a person who obviously had a decent amount of intellect with dangerous and radical ideas he believes in so much that he would recklessly endanger innocent human lives just to make a political statement about his radical ideals.

Common sense says this is not someone to honor but he is a leftist (his words again) and there are many other leftists out there who agree with him and give protection to fellow leftists like him. That is why he has been able to have a career in education, where there are obviously other leftists like himself, hoping we all forget what he did, and that is the origination of his support everytime someone else refuses to allow him to speak in their forum.

The bottom line is that all the people who spoke out against him speaking at UNL were within their rights and the Chancellor, by virtue of his authority as Chancellor, was within his rights and the rights of the University to refuse Ayers the honor of speaking in a University forum. So Ayer's rights were not violated because he's not "entitled" to speak at a University simply because he's invited by a few of his comrades on the UNL faculty until the Chancellor finds out about it and corrects a foolish decision made by those comrades of his at UNL.

Kids, there's a lesson to be learned here... If you bomb public buildings in political protest then... surprise, surprise, in the future, you're probably not going to be allowed to speak at a university about how to change the world. I know, it's so unfair but that's consequences for you... I can't even believe I have to explain this.

Comrade CensorshipHank - looks like you got your way. I want to thank you for clearly demonstrating how you and your comrades work. You on the left hate truth, and when truth is given you, you puke. You cry for censorship because you lack courage. I understand. You've been swearing to the lies of the left for so long, you don't even know what truth is.

I showed the picture of Hitler, Stalin and Obama becuase I was under the impression that we still have free speech in this country -

    - Ah but now we have a different country don't we. One in which the left does what ever it wants, whenever it wants, smearing whom ever they want, and yet they are so easily offended.

To you other commie comrades -

Just for the record, I have never asked for any censorship of any kind on this blog.

    Then there are you leftists.

You react to things you don't like with all the charm of a spoiled little mamma's boy.

You stick your fingers in your ears, and yell "LA LA LA LA LA LA" when you should be listening and trying to learn something.

I encourage you on the left to continue to gloat. Get on here and pound away at me - I beg you to keep it up. What a blessing you are to me.

And keep up those cries for censorship. Back when Hitler was turning Germany into a Nazi State, his followers used censorship to discourage people from learning the true story of The Third Reich. I can not help but see an alarming similarity in your calls for censorship.

  • GI, according to a Candian appearing on O'rielly tonight, coulter was welcome to speak elsewhere, just not on campus because she is a verbal bomb thrower, interesting parallels with Ayers. Coulter did speak at 3 other colleges.

Coulters actions are just words, and can be ignored. Ayers killed people and advocated killing more people. Ironic the people who died were bomb makers of his own group.

I wonder how well paid ayers is now considering his "kill the rich" quote, he has tenure, does he drive a bmw and live in a expensive house?

An interesting path, radical bomber to tenured professor in 10 easy steps, maybe his dads wealth paved the way.

I never said I was elated that he didn't get to speak at unl, I just think he should use a private forum to do it. Just like the canadians.

  • Backasswards Enrique,

You should study the Neo-Con tirades against FDR's SSI and every program he installed to fight the Great Depression.

Then study what the Neo-Cons screamed about the Civil Rights Bill with LBJ.

Then study the Neo-Con chants attacking Medicare when it was ennacted.

Actually, it is easy to study each political period.

All that is needed is to read the vitriol being written here by:

Sam, Jose the Buck, BA Enrique, Mrs. Smith, Mickel and your fellow hystericals.

You are spewing the same nonsense heard on all the other issues.

After SSI became established as the backbone for retirement financing for far too many Americans, with every new program the same element which fought SSI to the bitter end scream one invective.

"This new program will bankrupt the old programs we fought to prevent passage."

Explain -- "Health Care Reform is going to bankrupt Medicare."

So sayeth the same political extremist crowd which violently opposed Medicare, and now even more violently opposes Health Care Reform.

But, with Medicare they were fighting to prevent the bankrupting of SSI, which they had fought orginally, because it was going to bankrupt the country.

Let's review this -- In the late 30s, the U.S. was a nation of just under 130-MILLION people.

A 78 rpm phonograph record and static ridden AM radio were the common distribution media for music. Less than half the homes had running water and any indoor plumbing. Common farm and ranch hand wages were less than $1.00 per day.

In 1932,most land was tilled with mules and horses, pulling tw0 14-inch moldboard plows, or three 12 inch moldboards.

By 1941, most land was worked with tractors, with the smallest pulling two 12-inch moldboards at ten times the acres "turned" as with draft teams.

The first combines were powered by 12-up hitches.

Today's combines harvest many times as much grain acreage daily as even the early tractor pulled Gleaners.

Ford Tri-Motors were moving people from New York to San Francisco in two days.

By 1962, jets leaving New York arrived in Chicago, before they left, with the time change.

Just where between 1932 and 1962, did SSI and the liberals destroy the U.S.?

Exactly where, between 1970 and 2009, did Medicare destroy America?

In a destroyed nation, how did Mercury capsules, Apollo spacecraft, the Shuttle, computers, the Internet, Mach 4 supersonic aircraft, the Abrams tank, the now 30-plus year old 747, Lucy, Andy and Opie, Oprah and Dr. Phil, HDTV, satellite TV service to the most remote farms and ranches and these other "thangs" happen?

HOW IS IT -- That my blind daughter-in-law uses a voice activated and voice-translated computer to correspond INSTANTLY with people around the globe, read almost every book ever printed and teach "sighted" students.

PUH-LEEZE EXPLAIN IN DETAIL -- How SSI, Medicare, Workman's Compensation, Unemployment Insurance, the Interstate Highway system, NASA, CDs, DVDs, penicillin, anti-biotics, polio/smallpox/cholera/diptheria/tuberculosis and even HIV treatment have destroyed America?

Trent LOTT worshipped at the Strom Thurmond shrine -- Oh Yes,Thurmond should have been president.

Thurmond continued his racist rants until the end.

While back at home, he lived in secret with his Afro-American mistress and their children.

John Ensign ranted about Clinton and Monica, but that did not prevent him from adultery with a female campaign worker, who was also a neighbor in their gated community, and also the wife of a good friend and top aide in Ensign's office.

["Hey Zeke, iffen she ain't good 'nuff for kin folk and friends down the road, there's gotta be sumpin' wrong with her."

Ensign is still in office with full support of conservatives.

Terry Sanford was in Washington during the Clinton administration, with his wife's money financing his political career. He was a non-stop attack critic of Bill Clinton.

Now just what is this m!!

iraculous amability to be hiking the Appalachian Trail, while shacked up with his mistress in Argentina -- while his wife was at home raising their family?

You scream and rant, froth and foam at the mouth and nothing the Neo-Cons have insisted would destroy America for the past 80 years has done anything but accelerate growth.

Of course, we MUST ACCEPT neo-con rants as divinely inspired -- sanctified by YOUR God!!

There would seem to be a problem with Neo-Con prophecies.

Every dadburn one has been W-R-O-N-G-!!!!

Mickel's old health care plan - High Deductible Health Plan paid for by a separate account known as a Health Savings Account. All medical costs for myself, spouse and six kids are paid for out of pocket until annual deductible is met - this then triggers a percentage of further costs being paid by insurance, while the rest is still covered by Mickel. This plan is now illegal under the newly signed legislation.

Mickel's new health care plan - cancel insurance. Do not seek new enrollment. Pay fine for not having a health care plan. When self, spouse or any or all of six kids need medical care - purchase policy from insurance company to cover costs since pre-existing conditions are now covered by government mandate.

Result? Savings of insurance coverage premium dollars terribly overshadowed by tax increases (including fine) levied by US government. Health care quality plummets due to health care now being managed by a review board instead of Mickel's family physician.

Can anybody foster a guess as to why the government would want to cease a plan to which the cost lies mainly on the user?

rrw - the legislation outlaws HDHP's. Pretty simply put.

The HDHP's are not plans for the 'select few' but are actually very popular. I say this out of experience having been licensed for insurance in both the states of Nebraska and Kansas. Many people found that they offered more freedom and lower overall cost for healthcare plans than did HMO's.

I guess I missed the 'picture' folks. Sounds like I didn't miss anything.

  • Sam,

    With free speech goes responsibility.

The Neo-Cons are displaying with sharp clarity they lack responsibility.

Screaming out "Baby Killer" from the House of Representatives floor.

Mobs before the Capital building screaming profanities and obscenities at Representatives and Senators meeting to debate and consider the HCR bills.

Bricks through District and State office windows.

    That's free speech??

Mob action instigated by the virulent rantings of the Limbaughs,Becks,Hannitys, Coulters and Sams.

The lot of you lack reasoned judgment, common sense, responsible debate and intellectual honesty.

You invent, repeat and embellish any lie, which in your befuddled judgments, supports your position and/or belittles any one or thing with which you disagree.

The very concept of "Disagree without being disagreeable" has no place in your world.

Your confusion requires you to be disagreeable, belligerent, negative and supportive of criminal violence toward those hated Liberals.

It is beyond your understanding that even your very livelihood depends upon "Socialistic" infrastructures.

Apparently, by your thinking, your own personal God created the Interstate Freeway system, the U.S. highway system, state, county and city highway, roads and street systems.

Governmental systems -- yes, Socialistic systems created all those public freeways, highways, roads, streets, tunnels, bridges, viaducts, over and under passes and provided the lighting, signing and "Socialistic" regulation.

Socialistic bureaucrats oversee all the infrastructure and its regulations.

But,typically Sam rationalizes those things which "FILL HIS RICE BOWL" are good. Anything which does not directly benefit Sam is bad.

Socialistic education (Public elementary and secondary schools, public colleges and universities of benefit to Sam's children and grandchildren are good.

All other schools are filled with commies, socialists, treasonous liberals -- all closely aligned with the Nazis.

Devote some time to legitimate study of political issues and movements for the past 500 years.

Actually learn what a Fascist is.

What created the Nazi movement and how it grew.

Where Communism had its origins and how the concept and movement was hijacked by thugs to enslave hundreds of millions within a totalitarian military dictatorship.

Learn and maybe you will be able to refine your personal philosophy in realistic prose.

As it is, today and yesterday, you and your posse only vent grunts, squeals, groans and moans.

Joe Buck and Backassward Henri, Mickel and Mrs. Smith, Leo Pold and Navy Blue -- the entire group: Rant and rave about their abortion issue endlessly.

The Court Systems are where that issue has been resolved.

    Just as the Constitution requires.

Your perverse attempts to conjoin ANY President ofthe United States with Hitler and Stalin are SICK.

Many of us with "Up front and Close" personal experience with George DubYah Bush have been openly critical for decades before he became President, before he became the purely ceremonial Texas governor.

I would never consider attempting to identify DubYah with Stalin, Hitler or Einstein.

There is no need to use computer graphics generating the photos similar to the two you placed atop this blog.

Garbage you lifted from well financed Uber-Extremist Conservative websites.

Well financed by grasping billionaires seeking to use public political conflict to protect their personal wealth.

With DubYah Bush, no one need create disparaging images. Many of us were vocal in our issues with DubYah, his father, with Nixon -- but aside from newspaper and magazine political cartoons, I don't recall seeing anything remotely approaching what you attempted with President Obama.

[You see Sam, there was a time when almost the only national pride this Depression-ravaged nation could muster came from "The Brown Bomber" Joe Louis and the incredible Jesse Ownens. Joe planted the "super race" Maxie on his back; Jesse Owens kicked Germany's Berlin Olympics butt and rubbed Hitler's nose in it.]

That was all at a time when Hitler and the Nazis were thundering the inferiority of the dark-skinned peoples.

With that Nazi History, only a complete idiot would attempt to link "the first Black president" with Hitler.

It only requires the very real image of DubYah climbing out of that mail plane and strutting across the hangar deck -- in his Jet Jock's pressure suit.

    That image says it all.

The ultimate draft dodging hero in his own pysche.

Ayers killed three of his accomplices. They fubared the instructions of bomb making and blew themselves up. Now you might say that he didn't light the fuse or set it off but they were building the bomb for him to use. Ayers is a guilty accomplice.

"In 1970, Ayers' then-girlfriend Diana Oughton, along with Weatherman members Terry Robbins and Ted Gold, were killed when a bomb they were constructing exploded unexpectedly. That bomb had been intended for detonation at a dance that was to be attended by army soldiers at Fort Dix, New Jersey. Hundreds of lives could have been lost had the plan been successfully executed. Ayers attested that the bomb would have done serious damage, "tearing through windows and walls and, yes, people too.""

Fundin is correct, he should be in prison, not be cause Fundin wishes it to be so, but because Ayers did the crimes. If the FBI hadn't screwed up their surveillance he would have been convicted and might still be in prison.

It wasn't an accident that I did not say anything about Coulter because I don't have any problem with what the school decided. It's their school and their decision just like UNL can reject Ayers. If they thought their students were too violent and posed a threat then that's their decision to make just like UNL.

You say the "Conservative Nebraska Community" cried for "censorship". Well, you just described over 3/4 of the State of Nebraska that did not want an admitted bomber and radical ideologue speaking at their state's university. They expressed their freedom of speech by voicing opposition to the decision of the UNL faculty members who invited him and continued to exercise their rights by calling for the decision to be reversed. Those who gave donations exercised their freedom of expression by refusing to continue making donations to a university that shows such a lack of logic that it invites radical bombers to speak at university events. They can revoke their donations for whatever reason they want, that is their right and that's why they're called donations. However, the physical threats are not within the rights of the people. The freedom of speech is limited in many areas and you can't do that but you can't expect someone else to give you their forum against their will to exercise your right to speak. There are limits governed largely by common sense as well as established law.

The university has had conservatives and liberals both speak at the university. They just drew the line at people who bombed public buildings which convicted or not, Ayers has never denied his role in planting bombs. If you find that as an unacceptable decision then you're further left then I thought.

Honestly, if there was anything I thought we should be able to agree on, it would be that people who bomb public buildings and those who support them should not be outraged or even surprised that person was denied the privilege of speaking in a university forum.

  • Bachassward Enrique de Cabazo Morte,

Back about 1920, the merchants of downtown "white" Tulsa sought to reduce competition from the Black Main Street of Greenwood Ave. across the hill north of the Tulsa downtown retail business district.

The Greenwood merchants had developed the strongest African-American business district in the nation, even outdistancing Durham, North Carolina's Black Business district about six blocks north of the famed DURHAM BULLS baseball stadium.

Providing barrels of whiskey and beer to a mob of pool hall bums and oil field roustabouts, the downtown gentry aimed their drunken mob toward Greenwood.

The excuse, an overloaded railroad porter had been jostled at Union Station and either bumped into or stepped on the toe of a white woman.

The mob headed for the peaceful Greenwood Ave. area, armed with pick handles, pistols, sections of log chains and torches, expressing their intent with maximum volume.

Unfortunately for them, from the starting point around the bawdy houses and saloons along First Street, their intended victims had about 20 minutes warning.

Among Greenwood's residents were the majority of a crack black infantry company from WWI.

Many serious squirrel hunters, who had purchased their Model 1903 30 caliber Springfield, clip fed, bold action rifles.

The same weapon pacifist Alvin York used to capture hundreds of German troops.

That rip-roaring drunken mob stormed up the hill, met a barrage of accurate .30 caliber fire and went back downhill considerably faster.

As the WWI German army discovered with pacifist Alvin York and that Tulsa mob discovered along Greenwood Ave. -- sometimes those peaceful folks can get downright sudden.

So far all that has been seen from the "stand up and be counted" right wing extremists is tossing bricks through windows under the cover of dark.

Something to consider Super Patriots, the bulk of U.S. combat troops since establishment of a volunteer army have been other than the sons of northern European immigrants.

That adds up to a few million trained and armed combat experienced folks who have expressed a serious liking for the current President of the United States.

All both of you who have fired at least a hundred clips through assault rifles, and many, many belts of ammo through machine guns, might want to consider the merits of marching out against those hated liberals who also include the vast majority of 1963 to 2010 combat veterans.

That's right, while Super Patriots cut from the same cloth as those Air National Guard Headquarters Company HEROES; Danny Quayle and DubYah Bush, and just average Draft Dodgers Donnie Rumsfeld and Dickie Cheney; were hiding out in small liberal arts colleges around the country, on in "vital jobs" with their "Daddie's" companies -- those terrible liberal leaning folks were doing the fighting and dying.

One thing about those poor farm and ranch boys and the inner city kids, they've gotten real good at dying for their country.

But then, the ones left are them what fought, survived and can still shoot plenty straight.

Think on it Hothead Backassward Hank.

It doesn't matter if it's Bill Ayers who wants to talk about qualitative research methodology in education or Ted Kaczynski who wants to speak on geometric function theory. If you commit acts of domestic terrorism then don't expect a whole lot of universities to allow you to speak about anything at any of their events. It's not a violation of a freedom of expression, its their freedom to choose who will and will not be allowed to speak at their events and their exercise of common sense in reaching that decision.

Btw, you can sit here and point out that conservatives are hypocrites for crying foul on Coulter because of Ayers and I can claim liberals are hypocrites for applauding the decision for refusing Coulter to speak after crying foul after Ayers was refused in a similiar fashion. People like that exist on both sides. However, this does nothing for the conversation except point fingers and I only mentioned anything about it because you brought it up in a reply earlier, addressed to me specifically.

  • G.I.,

It wasn't just influential and violent people though. It was a lot of everyday people who still have common sense, peacefully citing their objections both publicly and privately. The Constitution does not prevent a university or anyone else from rescinding an invitation to speak at their events by crying wolf as it relates to freedom of speech. When he admits that he bombed buildings and that he's guilty as sin and free as a bird then most people tend to use their brains by not turning a blind eye to reality regardless of a technicality.

If you want to play that little game then I'd have to say it's in the section that says, if staff members of an organization invite someone to speak at an event and they are overruled in that decison by their superior then that person's freedom of speech has been reduced. You seem so familiar with that section so perhaps you could point it out to me because I've never seen it.

"Boo that is some mighty fine revisionist history. Ayers did not kill those fools, they jacked up the construction of the bomb they were working on without the help of ole Bill. Ayers wasn't involved. Pinning the deaths of those people on him is silly and you know it."

I believe Ayers was very complicit in the deaths of the 3 terrorists fabricating the bomb. Ayers was involved in some manner to cause this bomb to be built. He is an accessory to a crime and just as guilty as if he had lit the fuse. Too bad the FBI was so inept that they couldn't get a warrant or find him.

"But, ONCE AGAIN, you have missed the point entirely. Try this:

    1) Ayers's history has no bearing on the issue. If a University can cancel a speech with person X citing security risks as the issue, a University can certainly cancel with person Y citing security as the issue as well. So, if a group of Cons wants to complain about Canada's free-speech laws, they should turn their gaze to the US as well, because Ayers was turned away from UNL under almost the exact circumstances. In other words, Cons should stop being hypocrites."

His past had all the bearing on this issue. Coulter's past had all the bearing on her being told don't come to Ottawa to speak. She's a big girl, able to live with her past. Too bad she is getting so much publicity. I would be surprised if Ayers was too worried about not appearing at UNL, also surprised he didn't sue them until they couldn't pay any more.

"2) Tell me where in the Constitution or in federal law it states a person who should have gone to prison (or a person who has gone to prison for that matter) loses their right to freedom of speech. I am almost certain this is an example of Boo/Fundin blog law."

I believe that when someone goes to prison they absolutely lose the right to free speech. The only protected speech is with their attorney. All other correspondence is opened and read and censored if needed by the rules of the prison.

I am shedding no tears for coulter, the rad right is as bad as the rad left.

    Free Speech

Prisoners do not have a First Amendment right to speak freely. Prison officials may discipline inmates who distribute circulars calling for a mass protest against mistreatment. Administrators have traditionally limited prison newspapers to issues that promote good morale.

    Rights of Citizenship

Convicted offenders are deprived of many of their civil rights, both during and after their period of incarceration. A majority of states deprive citizens of the right to vote in all state and federal elections upon conviction of a felony. Even in jurisdictions where the offender can vote after release, he ordinarily cannot obtain an absentee ballot and vote while in prison.

This isn't blog law it appear to be state or federal.

Good thing we law abiding people enjoy free speech, you can sue the guy who beats the snot out of you for expressing admiration for Bill Ayers.

sorry I am not up on the history of Martin Luther King, Jr. what a sorry time for our country for him to be killed.

His freedom to speak wasn't limited, just the location and I know full well ayers never went to prison.

I don't believe I have ever said ayers didn't have the right of free speech, you are mistaken.

I know, once a person has served their time, they get their rights back, I have never said otherwise

I do wish the FBI had done a better job, then ayers might still be in jail, as that is where he need to be.

Shame on you for being dishonest about my words

rrw - I'm sure you wish I was either full of crap or twisting something to make a point. But, frankly, I'm neither in this case.

The House bill that you are referring to is going to end up as confetti on the Congressional floor. The President signed the Senate bill into law...the bill that the House passed to send back to the Senate (read reconciliation) is rife with pay-offs and goodies (read pork) that will more than likely never gain traction in the Senate. Some of these items may be adopted later on...but for now, what I said holds true.

I really see no reason for you to get snarky about it. After all, it's happening to me and not you.

  • Hey there on the right,

This just appeared today in a serious Republican owned newspaper.

"The tea party movement is fueled by rhetoric that echoes the paranoid ravings of the most extreme right-wing nutcases. When tea party leaders talk about the threat of "socialism" and call for "a new revolution" and vow to "take our country back," they can say they are simply using vivid metaphors. But they cannot plausibly claim to be unaware that there are people -- perhaps on the fringe of the movement, but close enough -- who give every sign of taking these incendiary words literally."

"And does anyone doubt that the movement attracts the kind of people who take these words literally?"

All that Pork you are complaining about was put in the proposed Senate bill in the standard maneuvering. None of it was there for the President's signature.

Everyone who can read, or owns an electronic broadcast reception device is aware that in his meetings with Senate and House, President Obama convinced leaders of both houses to eliminate those exclusive kick-back conditions.

The Louisiana provision was rewritten to apply to any state suffering a major natural disaster, providing relief for specific periods.

Mickel, as a political vote prediction specialist, it would appear you better keep your day job.

You may have noticed, the President spoke at the Univ. of Iowa last night, March 25, and there was one FACT noted by several observers.

"In his first Iowa campaign appearance three years ago, Candidate Obama, clearly declared Health Care Reform must be the first priority.

He said then, "Health Care is bankrupting our families and the total cost will bankrupt the country if it is allowed to continue."

"Those of us who listened to the candidates heard Candidate Obama stressing the same point about Health Care Reform.

[I'm plumb happy that an obvious 'typo' with the "t" being replaced by a "d" in BOLD -- RATHER THAN "Bolt," provides the truly negative with some hilarity.

  • G.I.,

I'm just glad that a domestic terrorist was not allowed the privilege which should be reserved for someone of honor and respect not for someone like Ayers.

Academic freedom is not unlimited freedom. It has to be balanced with common sense. Inviting a domestic terrorist to speak at a university event is one of the extreme examples a person would use to make the point that academic freedom is not unlimited. Academic freedom does not mean a domestic terrorist who gets an invitation to speak from his buddies on the staff can't have that invitation revoked. Why? Because, inviting terrorists to speak is completely unacceptable. I'm just glad UNL finally made it right, they haven't always had the best track record but the end result was the right decision.

You say I'm overly sensitive because I don't want a domestic terrorist who bombed public buildings to he honored with the distinction of speaking at the University. Three people died while making these bombs and one of them was making a nail bomb to be placed at a military dance. I'm just thankful their incompetence prevented any innocent lives being taken. If these are the type of people you want to honor and follow then keep following. I will continue to oppose honors being bestowed upon people like that and all their followers.

Last thing I'll say on this and I'm done...

    He planted...BOMBS...in PUBLIC!!!

  • Backassward Enrique de cabaza morte:

    How you do rave on.

Insisting liberal ways devastated the California ec economy.

Prop 13 destroying 75% - 85% of the state's legitimate property tax income is the culprit.

Prop. 13 was the result of the Jarvin-Gann amendment referendum, as those two arch conservatively cheerfully lied to uninformed voters what their idea would do.

Add to that, with the legal background hidden in the California Water Project by Pat Brown as cover for the L.A. Metropolitan Area Water District -- aka Mulholland and the Thirty Thieves.

Northern California bought into that package believing it meant distributing the far north snow melt water to the entire San Francisco Bay area, three Montery Bay counties, the entire Central Valley, from Tracey south through the Taft/Bakersfield/Porterville areas.

Ooops -- the fine print gives Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernadino, Imperial and San Diego first rights to most of Northern California's water.

Consequently counties and cities within sight of the mountains producing that water, are prohibited from using it, because several thousand Orange County uber conservatives have their swimming pools to fill an lawns to keep green.

All the yachts in Newport Beach, Channel Islands Harbor, Ventura Marinas, Long Beach and San Diego marinas need water piped to their berths.

Plow under the almond, walnut, peach, apricot, orange, lemon and grapefruit trees.

Tear out those table grape vinyards.

    Cut dairy herds by half.

    Leave a half-million acres fallow.

Destroy as much as 50% of the economy in eight counties, from the Grapevine to the Sacramento Delta.

All that saved the Delta is federal law requiring there has to be enough water left north of Tracy and Stockton to support all fish populations.

Two CONSERVATIVE measures combined to destroy much of California's economy.

Keep blowing smoke Backasswards -- that's all that's left after you finish displaying your half-vast knowledge of things you are completely ignorant about -- which covers 99.99999% of the universe.

    Backassward HotHead Enrique.

Again -- nothing but arrogant bleatings. Not a single whisper of fact in support.

Because one of the more smaller minds in America says he believes lies, rational people are supposed to be impressed??

There was a prominent Tory in the English Parliament about 1935, about whom Winston Churchill declared, "It is not so much the gentleman is limited by nature to being an imbecile -- It is the fact he keeps announcing his problems so loudly!!"

  • Carl,

Had a computer problem, for which my EX tech was responsible.

    Took it back to him.

He was ranting about the HCR Act, then complaining about being slowed down by a serious heart problem developed since I had last seen him.

"I can't afford health insurance, so I have to go to the University hospital, where they charge me $25 per visit."

He then described about $10,000 of tests performed at the hospital and outlined about $1,000 monthly cost for medications -- all provided under that $25 charge.

Then back to ranting about "Obama's Socialized medicine."

Within the year,he will have received about $30,000 of life-saving care for a heart condition, for less than $500 total cost.

    He's against Socialized Medicine.

When I pointed out the "slight flaw" in his logic, his response -- "But it is a public hospital."

Yep, a socialistic, tax-supported public hospital.

    "But that's different."

Yep, right socialized medicine is fine for his proud Tea Bagger (his term) Heart, but not for anyone else.

Being the vicious Old **** I am -- After he found what he had done wrong first time around with my computer, I encouraged him.

"Just think, by the time your heart treatment is done at the hospital -- You can get health insurance despite having a pre-existing condition.

"Until the Health Reform Act became law, you could not get insurance, ever. Of course, you won't consider using that Obama-guarantee, will you?"

"I know you will stick by your principles and do without first."

Strange, he never gave me any answer to that.

  • Hey Backasswards Enrique,

    Read. Research. Open your eyes.

California has been getting federal funds big time for years.

The CONSERVATIVE BIG FARMING INTERESTS received multi-Billion dollar help with building and operating water projecs,

CONSERVATIVE Orange County got billions to pump northern California water to their pools and lawns.

The CONSERVATIVE Delta farmers have received big help from Uncle Sam to improve protection for their lands.

Conan would have been tossed into the dungeon years ago if he had not been able to get DubYah to support his state.

But,when compared with Miz Sary Palin's Alaska -- the Governator of Kalifornika ain't really trying for federal handouts.
