  • The Government has actually been shut down 17 times since 1977.

  • When given the choice between defunfing obama-care and shutting down the bureacracy, DEMOCRATS choose a shut down. When given a choice between eliminating the government employee obama-care subsidy and shutting down the bureaucracy, DEMOCRATS choose a shut down.

Just yesterday, DEMOCRAT senator harry reid was given a choice to continue to fund government ran child cancer treatment or stick to the shut down, he choose to stick to the shutdown. His point, "Why would we want to do that?".

Make no mistake, this is a DEMOCRAT shut down.

The democrat party will own this debacle in the coming years. obamacare will expedite the fiscal cliff this nation is heading over and the Tea Party will go down in history as the only ones smart enough to see it coming and try to do something about it early. McCain and the other Republicans who were more concerned about their re-elections than the nations future will go down in history with the democrat party and obama as tools. The legacy of this man child who calls himself president will be one of utter failure. The Tea Party are sages which will be borne out in the history books. Watch and learn mini, watch and learn.

Wow that is amazing logic there CPB. Republicans demand that Democrats remove all funding for a law that was passed by Congress, signed by the President, and confirmed by Supreme Court, funding that had nothing what-so-ever to do with the budget that was not met, and you blame the Democrats for shutting down the government.

I would love to live in your world CPB it has got to be magical.

Last time I checked ugly, Obama won election twice, by what is considered electoral landslides in recent political history, he doesn't call himself president he IS president. I have been watching, ugly for eight years as the Republican Party slowly but surely destroys itself from the inside out. Sages? More like nutcases.

Nutcases would be an ilk, the democrat party lets say, that believes in creating more and more social entitlement programs that don't fund themselves and drive our debt and deficits even further into a bankrupt status. Nutcases would be an ilk, the democrat party, that believe we can continue to borrow and print money to pay for these programs and the piper will never come calling. Nutcases would be an ilk, the democrat party, that don't get that the easier you make it for the citizenry to kick back and collect the government check, the fewer people you have paying into the ever growing liberal democrat party government which speeds up the snowball of debt and deficits. Nutcases indeed and sages indeed. On a side note did they adjust the lithium??? You seem less unhinged.

  • I agree welfare must be closely monitered, however, the misuse of the welfare system for individuals is pennies on the dollar to the handouts given to large corporations.

And by the way, it is Republican administrations that have grown spending significantly over the last 4 decades. The rate of government spending under Obama has decreased. Clinton left Bush II a revenue surplus. We can reduce the debt by fairly taxing the corporations and their overpaid executives.

Ugly, it would be more adult to deal in facts rather than Tea Party lies and mis-statement of fact. It would also be more patriotic.

In closing, I do not wish to see the destruction of the Republican party. I believe traditionally both parties have much to contribute to our nation. The Tea Party however was started and funded by the Koch brothers and their friends to further their agenda, not the interests of the working people of this country.

The Koch brothers agenda is not to see the nation bankrupted by the democrat party. The Koch brothers had nothing to do with the original tea party and never will. It was individuals fed up with debt and deficit and big spending liberal democrat party members. They are still strong and they will be seen as sages when the piper comes calling lefty. Oh, and that line about rate of government spending is priceless.

  • Yes, it is a magical world I live in. It's a world where the governing class can be be removed when it violates the will of the people. We saw that in 2010 as a result of the passage of obama-care, democrats and establishment republicans were thrown out of office.

I'm sure at one time in history, forced slavery was once thought to be kept legal. As was prohibiting women from voting. Those were laws that passed the political tests as well. Thankfully those laws were removed, as will obama-care.

Comparing affordable health care to the forced servitude of a entire race? Classy.

"We saw that in 2010 as a result of the passage of obama-care, democrats and establishment republicans were thrown out of office."

Yet in 2012 we saw an election where the people overwhelmingly re-elected Obama who campaigned on Obamacare against Romney who campaigned against Obamacare. We saw a Senate and House gain Democratic seats not Republican seats. Or had you forgotten the last election already. Just a reminder that the 2012 election was two years AFTER the 2010 election, or are you just conveniently forgotten history once again in an effort to make your point seem valid.

ugly you are absolutely delirious if you honestly think that the Koch brothers had nothing to do with the TEA Party from it's inception. There was never anything grass roots about this organization. It was bought and paid for by the far right corporations and corporatists in this country.

As it turns out there is a proposed deal (whether anything will happen is yet to be seen) that would reopen the government and raise the debt ceiling (something, by the way is not new so spare me that crap right now) and the Republicans would gain nothing out of it which just means we went through two weeks of government shutdown for absolutely nothing. Well played Republicans, destroy your own brand and don't even get anything out of it.

You are simply a liar or an ill-informed partisan liberal hack. You most certainly are not an historian or you would know how it started. I do as I was in attendance at the Platte River Protest and no one mentioned the Kochs as no one new their names yet as they had nothing to do with anything. Rick Santelli started the whole thing with me and with millions of others. Any other version is a liberal democrat party lie. The Tea Party will go down in history as the group of people who made the middle class do their math homework thus exposing the liberal democrat party as leeches on the middle class to the good of the teetsuckers who contribute next to nothing to the good of this nation. You sir contribute nothing but lies. Watch and learn.

  • I realized this is so difficult to see, but big business fully supports the establishment GOP, not TEA PARTY? The TEA PARTY is in fact a true grassroots organization. It's funding pretty much come from its supporters, guys like me.

  • The other major sponsor of the Tea Party movement is Dick Armey's FreedomWorks, which, like Americans for Prosperity, is promoting events in Washington this weekend. Under its original name, Citizens for a Sound Economy, FreedomWorks received $12 million of its own from Koch family foundations. Using tax records, Mayer found that Koch-controlled foundations gave out $196 million from 1998 to 2008, much of it to conservative causes and institutions. That figure doesn't include $50 million in Koch Industries lobbying and $4.8 million in campaign contributions by its political action committee, putting it first among energy company peers like Exxon Mobil and Chevron. Since tax law permits anonymous personal donations to nonprofit political groups, these figures may understate the case. The Kochs surely match the in-kind donations the Tea Party receives in free promotion 24/7 from Murdoch's Fox News, where both Beck and Palin are on the payroll.

  • Yep just a bunch of regular Joes

In an August 30, 2010, article in The New Yorker, Jane Mayer said that the billionaire brothers David H. Koch and Charles G. Koch and Koch Industries are providing financial and organizational support to the Tea Party movement through Americans for Prosperity, which David founded.[180][181] The AFP's "Hot Air Tour" was organized to fight against taxes on carbon use and the activation of a cap and trade program.[182] In 1984, David Koch also founded Citizens for a Sound Economy,[183] part of which became FreedomWorks in a 2004 split, another group that organized and supports the movement.[184] Koch Industries issued a press release stating that the Kochs have "no ties to and have never given money to FreedomWorks".[185] Former ambassador Christopher Meyer wrote in the Daily Mail that the Tea Party movement is a mix of "grassroots populism, professional conservative politics, and big money", the last supplied in part by the Kochs.[186] Mayer says that the Koch brothers' political involvement with the Tea Party has been so secretive that she labels it "covert".[187]

  • Wildhorse,

You've certainly found opinion pieces where the authors have found some links where they hope there is a link between the Kochs and teaparty, and maybe there is, who cares.

What is wrong with reigning in gov't spending and taxing. Are those of us who support this idea wrong? Are we wrong to demand gov't stay out of our lives? Are so inept that we cannot make our own health decisions?

I'm sorry, but the current republican leadership does not represent us, and we will vote for those that do. Let's see, what was that called?

pony proved nothing except for the fact that moneyed interests helped finance the Tea Party AFTER the original formation which was as grass roots as it gets. Why wouldn't rich conservatives help out after the Tea Party blossomed?? libtard democrat party members like pony can try to rewrite history all they want. The movement was grassroots and still is except for the fact there are supporters now. The Tea Party will be proven as sages. Watch and learn.
