Obamunism - The Lie that keeps on givingPosted Monday, January 25, 2010, at 9:56 AM
Further proof there are people out there that still believe that the Cold War is still active.
The main reason I am confused is because communism and fascism are not good bed fellows. They don't play well together. One is steeped in misusing religion, one is steeped in completely ignoring religion all together.
I understand that many far righters are very afraid that Obama is going to turn this nation into a communist nation, but the question is, why? What exactly has he done that is even remotely communistic? He's not completely ignoring all religions, in fact, he is following the Constitution in recognizing that not everyone has the same religion and that this country was not established to recognize one religion over another. I guess you could be worried about the buy-outs that have occurred, but Obama isn't the first president to buy out a company. Ronald Reagan bought out car companies and it was his government that stepped in during a strike by air traffic controllers and fired them. So government getting involved in businesses is nothing new and certainly, at least in the country, not a communist thing. I guess it could be that he dares to want all Americans to have cheap affordable health care, but why would you want to deny this to your fellow Americans? Especially, if as originally planned, it won't affect your taxes.
Basically it's a play on words that just doesn't simply hold up under scrutiny. The people that came up with the word (and while I'm on it why has the nation turned into a nation that has to have a cutesy name attached to everything. Not only that, there was only one Watergate and yet now every scandal that pops up has to have gate attached to the end of it. That's not very imaginative) obviously have no idea what communism, marxism, or fascism are and are simply just trying to scare those Americans that scare easily. They are simply preying on people's fears which has become the running theme for Republicans and far righters since 9/11. They are so wrapped up in scaring people they helped elect a Senator that voted to deny EMS workers extra time off that had gone to New York to help search in recovery in the days and weeks after 9/11 (fortunately he was only 1 of 3 o vote against it)just because he had an R after his name.
The simple fact of the matter is (and this is hard for me to admit) that in his first year of office, Obama has not differed that much from past presidents. His promises of change have, like so many campaign promises from past presidents, gone by the wayside to this point. He got the Recovery Act passed which helped the banks, got the stock market back on track, and slowed the unemployment rate but nothing else has happened in Washington since then. There's the whole health care thing but Republicans got so many amendments into bills that the current bills that are active right now look nothing like they did when they began. Republicans will play on this and lie to the American people (which they have turned into an art form) and tell them that had they been involved in the process a good health care reform bill would have passed. This of course is a joke as they were very involved in this bill with huge amount of their amendments they got into these bills yet they continued to vote no.
This November could be the first time in American history that a political party has won offices by doing absolutely nothing and blaming the other party for nothing happening.
In the end, however, I am hopeful that the next three years will see at least some of the changes that Obama promised us in his campaign for the Office of President, but as long as Republicans continue to obstruct everything and the media continues to find something Obama has done and turn it into a controversy it's going to be a hard hill to climb.
