HayseedPosted Saturday, September 5, 2009, at 2:50 PM
They want us to trust them. They want us to trust them with the future of our country, to place in their hands the futures of our grandchildren. Why should we trust them? They say it is because they are so very smart. So well educated are they, that their brain power alone is enough to demand our humble obedience. They also demand our respect. Have they earned any? I will tell you of a man that has earned my respect. Let's call him Lem. Lem is just a hayseed, born and raised on a pig farm in Kansas. Lem's family were poor workin' folks, and Lem began work early in life with hard chores from the time he was a small boy. Lem has always worked hard, he was born into poverty, so he learned the value of a dollar, the value of character, and the value of doing what is right. When Lem's wife decided that raisin' kids was too much work for her, and left him with two small children, Lem worked even harder. It never occurred to him to run to the State, to embrace victim hood, and ask for hand outs, or look for others to carry his burden. For Lem to make that jump, he would need years of State Indoctrination in the public schools and higher education systems. It was difficult being a single parent. Lem worked long and hard hours, yet found time to attend his kids' school functions. There were stretches of time that I saw Lem working every day of the week, long hard hours for months on end. Vacation? What's a vacation? Food Stamps? It wasn't that Lem was too proud to take food stamps, it just never occurred to him. To a Hayseed like Lem, the thought that someone else should feed his kids is foreign, it stinks. Lem knew the difference between wants and needs. Something that years of education hasn't produced in Obama. Lem and his kids never did without, however, Lem practiced solid financial principles in his life, and became an achiever, a producer. Lem couldn't afford nice cars. He bought cars he could afford, from ten bucks to five hundred bucks, a car is just a car. To a Hayseed like Lem, a perdy car is kinda like having a perdy hammer. The notion that other taxpayers should pony up $4500 bucks to help him buy a new car is just silly. Again, poor Lem just doesn't have that Harvard education, where you learn such things. Lem knows, and Hayseeds know, that it is hard to have folks making fifty bucks an hour building cars, to sell them to folks earning fifteen bucks an hour. It should be the other way around. Sure Lem had problems like everybody else. He endured a medical emergency which took most of his money, but Lem never considered that his neighbors were somehow responsible for his misfortune. Lem started his own business, with no help from the government, and is finally enjoying some success. Now that he is successful, of course, who shows up? You know who, Hopey Change and Company, and they have news for Lem and guys like him. They blame Lem for other folks' bad luck. They tell Lem that he doesn't care enough, and that they, the government, have a right to rob Lem's grandkids, and give that money to those "less fortunate". That concept is hard to understand to Lem. They tell Lem he is too stupid to understand, that he is just a racist. They just want Lem to pay up, and "shut the hell up you redneck hayseed bastard!" Lem answers by inviting anyone and everyone to work as hard as he did. Lem is enjoying his family and grandchildren, and really does not understand the thinking of the self-proclaimed brainiacs. Nowadays Lem can pretty much go and come as he pleases, the years of determination, guts and obidience to doing what is right, have paid off. However, to the left, Lem now needs to be punished, silenced and slandered. We need guys like Lem in Congress. We need more hayseeds and less intellectual inbreds. We need more pig farmers, mechanics, bricklayers, restaurant owners, nurses, oil field trash, you know, the folks that make America great, to run for office. The problem is, Lem is not a politician, or a leftist. Hayseeds like Lem will flat tell you the truth. Walk up to Lem and ask, "do you think our government should borrow money from a Communist country, using our grandkids as collateral, and give almost a billion dollars of that money to terrorists like Hamas?" Lem would probably smack you for asking such a stupid question. You have to be indoctrinated for years under Marxist teaching to beleive such a thing is smart. We need more Hayseeds in office. All one need do to see proof of this is look at the mess we're in. Who brought us this mess? Guys like Lem? I don't think so. Intellectual inbreds, incapable of producing anything but misery, brought us the mess we're in. If you want logic that works, talk to a hayseed. If you need to trust someone, trust a hayseed. If you need help from someone, by God, you better hope a hayseed is around. Not to long ago, Lem drove all night, hundreds of miles, to rescue me from a lonely spot after a break down. That's a hayseed for ya. I am proud to know Lem, he represents America, Obama represents a whining malignancy of underachievers. All brains (they think) and no guts. This post probably explains the animosity between Conservatives and liberals. We lack education, they lack credibility.
Thanks for nice comments guys/gals!
Lem sounds like a few people I know. The backbone of the country. You are so right when you point out how these eggheaded liberals have had things their way for years, and when it doesn't work, they blame us. You once wrote that you could not think of a single liberal program that has ever been successful, and it is true. They have wasted trillions in failure after failure, and they want Lem (and me) to pay for their mistakes. Travel to any big city and you'll see how well liberalism works.
Sam,
As you may, or may not, know, when we first met in 1975, I was a flaming liberal. Having been raised in Miami, I was exposed to every sort of liberal thinking there was. I was one of the dozen or so people who actually voted for George McGovern!! lol Now, I am a "Recovering Liberal"!! After witnessing the failed presidency of James Earl Carter, I realized that there must be a better way. I rejoiced when Ronaldus Maximus was elected.
Since I moved to a small Kansas town, I've grown to love the "Lem's" who live and work here. They are real people with real hopes and dreams. What B. Hussein Obama wants to do is squelch any hopes and dreams any of us may have. He is against any sort of individual, free thinking, creative, entrepeneurs.
My wife and I are trying to start a small business here. We are doing so not knowing what type of government intrusion we will experience.
Keep up the good work, my friend!! My wife and I are behind you 100%. Great blog!!
Another way to look at this, Conservatives go out and live a life, liberals read about it in books.
The same Republicans who are foolishly overreacting to this non-issue wouldn't have any problem with Bush1 or Bush2, Rush Limbaugh, or Glen Beck (or any other nutball for that matter) walking straight into a school and spreading the GOP agenda as hard as shamelessly as they could.
Here is an example of a REASONABLE Republican reaction...listen up McCookians:
"I'm conservative, but my son will go to school and if they play the speech, he will watch it. I'll read it online and we will discuss it at home if his school does opt to show it. No big deal, as long as they keep politics out of the speech as they say they will."

Your on the wrong post Inglaterra, you want hendrick's "republicans and the far right have hit rock bottom" post. Your comment will fit in better there.
Maybe Gilly figured his comment will actually be read on this blog instead of Mike's!!
Yes you are right...I will post it there too.
True
funny you mention Churchill - marcus is a distant relative of his
Sceptre,
I use that quote from my cousin Winnie all the time about liberals & conservatives. I will now add that other quote to my quiver. Thank you!!
Sceptre,
"Socialism is the philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy."
Most excellent quote from Winston Churchill. So very true then, and now. My daughter will get a copy of this when she heads for school tomorrow. Heck, I may even tattoo this across my forehead.
Look I can quote Englishmen too:
"Capitalism is the astounding belief that the most wickedest of men will do the most wickedest of things for the greatest good of everyone."--John Maynard Keynes
But here is the REALITY:
"Under capitalism man exploits man; under socialism the reverse is true."--Polish Proverb
Great blog, Sam. I think the American people are finally waking up to what changes Obama really has planned for American. Obama will have to continue his drive to socialism, communism and marzism without Van Jones' open assistance. Wonder what back room job Obama gave him? Is he now working in the basement with Jeremiah Wright?
Sam,
Once again -- write of your trucking on those Socialist roads and of the people you meet out there, as well as the places you traverse.
But, beating the horse to death on the right side, is still beating a dead horse.
You and your buddies have continued complaining about the Obama Health Care Bill.
Fact is, there are five bills in the Congress.
The administration has not presented a bill.
President Obama is well aware the Clinton's spent nearly two years, probably 500 to 1,000 hours of hearings and committee meetings in every state and presented general proposals to Congress.
The Republicans in Congress immediately launched into an all out attack against Bill and Hillary for presenting a bill.
President Obama has listed a handful of basic factors he favors.
1. Any Health Care Bill must be revenue neutral -- requiring no massive tax increases -- but with the advantage of cost savings in Medicare and Medicaid.
2. The Health Care Bill must not interfere with tax reductions for low and middle income taxpayers.
3. Any tax increases for any purpose, must be limited to no more than 1% increase in income taxes for the top 1% of all taxpayers.
Those bankers who grabbed $50-Million bonuses from the Bush bank bailout funds, would have to pay an extra 1% on money they stole from us.
Still less tax than the same people paid under Reagan and Poppa Bush.
4. The bill must contain legal restrictions upon private health insurors denying to accept people because of pre-existing conditions, and the lifetime caps on payments must end.
Everything else in the proposed bills, came from Congress.
Republicans offered the exact same wording as they put into the 2003 Medicare Reform Bill ---
allowing doctors to be compensated for consultations requested by senior citizens to plan their end of life strategies.
This is what several nutcases writing in this blob and Sarah Palin have labeled the "OBama Death Panels."
In any of the proposed bills, there are clear restrictions on any of this money being used for abortions OR illegal immigrants.
There is specific language probiting any insuror or any agency or officlals of the federal government from insisting upon people using any doctor or preventing them from using any doctor.
President Obama is expected to tell Congress Wednesday the provisions in their bills he favors and th ose he opposes to the point of vetoing them.
The other B.S. reported here and elsewhere amounts to total lies. There has never been an Obama health bill.
All the false claims about the contents of the final bill are pure LIES, LIES, LIES.
Go get 'em Hank.
I grew up a hayseed, I remember the uproar about Washington trying to require port-a-potties in the field, thought it was ridiculous quackery--years later moved to California and while driving by tomato, artichoke, bean, lettuce and other fields whose produce was being harvested by migrant labor I was thankful for the port-a-potties in the fields.
What I learned from this, don't ridicule a proposal without understanding why it was made in the first place.
A good friend recently went to the funeral of her 57 year old brother-in-law who had worked all his life and was a diabetic who couldn't get health insurance. Had he been able to afford decent health care he would most likely have lived many more years. Instead the defacto death panels in the insurance board rooms sentenced him to an early death in the name of the almighty dollar.
Doesn't seem the American way to me.
And Sceptre would be well advised to look up what tax dollars go where--the corporate welfare in this country is much higher than what is given directly to individuals--I believe both groups get way too much way too easily--but would much rather see my tax dollars go to individuals versus subsidizing corporate America. My tax bill would go way down.
After reading this bloggers fantasy rants, Obama should adopt that famous line of Reagan, that is, "There they go again.........."
I never have understood you lefties hatred of America. I really don't want to understand it either.
Of the left coast - your little example was a huge load of crap. Do you usually get people to give a great big.."ah gee whiz" when you lay that phony tear jerker BS on them? The way you wrote it, it was almost believable. Nice job.
That corporate welfare line, another great lefty line. Do little school kids usually buy your dogma? I bet cha they do...I bet cha you poison allot of young minds with your tripe.
Your day is over. Obamas run to serfdom for America failed, and the conservative giant has awoke.
You better get some more of those phony crybaby lines ready, you're gonna need 'em.
And while I am at it On The Left Coast - where is your anger for the 3000 babies murdered every day in America? You two bit phony. I bet you're the type of guy who takes Viagra to play with himself.
Herndon Hank - my friend why are you so anxious to be a slave to the US Government? Are you one of these guys who is miserable and you want everyone to be miserable with you?
Look at the mess the Gov. has made of out health care system by their interference. Social Security is broke. Medicare is broke. Medicaid is broke. The US Government is broke, and you want to hand them over your health to ruin?
Are you on drugs?
You guys have got to step it up. Your arguments are puny, and straight out of the the little Marxists handbook. Try and have some original thoughts.
Sam,
I'm sorry for my tardiness to your friend's pity party? Was there cake?
Also, it's funny that you tell people to have original thoughts when you have called all of your dissenters either a Marxist/Stalinist/socialist, after taking a shot at their character through adolescent jokes about them masturbating or being a bad parent.
This is odd behavior for someone who claims to tread on such high moral ground.
Sham is on no high-ground of any kind. With every pathetic swipe at others he buries himself further and further under a mountain of irrelevance. His even less classy jambalaya of regurgitated Rush/Savage/Beck lines is representative of a dessicated philosophy and the death rattle apparently involves quite a lot of screaming and flailing about; kind of like a star collapsing in on itself...though Sham will not leave much of a void I am afraid, although on second thought, like a black hole, he certainly does suck.
Luckily Steffanie, what the polls say after 7-8 months of a 4 year term do not typically reflect what the polls at the end look like. Clinton took on health care reform and it dropped his approval rating to the 30's. By the end of his 8 years he had the highest approval rating in post-war history. Bush on the other hand found his popularity sore after 9/11 to an unbelievable 90%, he had the whole nation's support. After about 6 and half years later he had the lowest approval rating in post-war history.
When health care reform passes, and as the job market comes back, and the economy continues to improve, and the situation in Afghanistan stabilizes, Obama will not only be reelected, but, just like Clinton will enjoy a stellar approval rating. Mark it down.
DREAM ON, GILLY!!!
I've always believed we would come out of this recession and it's becoming more and more clear that it will not be because of the Stimulus but despite the Stimulus. The Stimulus actually hurt job creation instead of creating jobs. Most of the projects that are eligible for funding didn't get approved (as per government incompetence) and thus will be delayed until next year which is when most people believed we'd recover regardless of the Stimulus.
These projects already had the funding in their budgets but the Stimulus money came available so they postponed these projects which would have been done this year until next year when they can still get the Stimulus funds. When you postpone a project until next year because you're still waiting on Stimulus money, you have effectively killed a job that would have been created that year.
This means the Stimulus hasn't hastened recovery at all because it has led to the postponement of projects that would've created jobs this year. This defeats the whole point of the Stimulus. Yet, liberals still put their faith in the government's ability to run a program. It seems conservatives tend to have blind faith in their religion and liberals tend to have blind faith in government but at least religions can only ask for donations.
Sam, let's take a look at your latest attack diatribe.
".. where is your anger for the 3000 babies murdered every day in America?"
LIST THE ACTUAL EFFORTS you have made to move young people away from unprotected sex and the resulting abortions.
HOW MANY back alley abortionists did you help expose and put out of business before it became legal?
Doing a geat deal in both areas still does not give me legal right or moral authority to decide what a 15-year-old drug-addicted prostitute; who has been on the big city streets for three years, with multiple STD infections and severe chromosonal damage; should decide.
That decision is between her, her GOD and her doctor.
It is not your decision to make or influence.
If you want to deny any woman the right to make her own decision -- JUST BE A MAN, STEP UP AND CONTRACT TO PAY ALL EXPENSES FOR THE CHILD FOR LIFE!!
"...You two bit phony. I bet you're the type of guy who takes Viagra to play with himself."
MORE NAME CALLING. Sorry Sam, I will have to yield to your superior experience and technical knowledge on the lonely gearjammers' sex habits.
Frankly, at my age, there are more women in this generation actively pursuing the few of us able bodied males available to waste any energy on your favorite over-the-road pasttime.
".. why are you so anxious to be a slave to the US Government?"
Sorry Sam, I served my volunteer time in the Infantry and Light Artillary, spent more than my share of time in an Army hospital -- and used every legal means to avoid excess taxation while EARNING more money, creating more jobs, building more individual businesses, helping build more small town business districts and helping more payrolls to small rural towns than you will every be able to imagine.
While I was about it, those efforts created more loads for truckers than you have ever hauled.
"..Are you one of these guys who is miserable and you want everyone to be miserable with you?"
You are the one on constant attack against anyone who disagrees with you. Hurling accusations and outright lies in all directions.
",,Social Security is broke."
AS A PURE CONSERVATIVE, did you notice SSI was the Liberal Product of FDR and the New Deal.
"..Medicare is broke.." -- and another LIBERAL program, left unfunded as the two Bush Regimes pursued multiple wars.
"..Medicaid is broke."
Without the proposed Health Care Reform, SSI, Medicare and the U.S. economy will be destroyed.
"..The US Government is broke, and you want to hand them over your health to ruin?"
George H.W. Bush left the U.S. in a deep recession, with farm, home and business foreclosures and the wheat and corn belts devastated -- Accruing more debt than all previous administrations combined.
Then Clinton cut the Bush bloated federal payroll, balanced the budget for the first time in 60 years, and cut the debt for the first time in 50 years.
Then DUBYAH TOOK OVER -- left two mismanaged wars, MORE FEDERAL DEBT THAN ALL PREVIOUS ADMINISTRATION'S, including GHW Bush's record debt, gave us near total economic collapse, with record home and business foreclosures, losing 700,000 jobs monthly as his legacy.
Thanks to DUBYAH and the DRAFT DODGERS, as of January 20, 2009, we had the worst economic conditions in sixty years.
The DubYah Bush federal deficit was at record levels and the federal debt had soared beyond Poppa Bush's most extreme levels.
Sept., 2008 -- DubYah requested an auto industry bail out. No oversight and no restrictions.
Did you happen to notice the fuel prices?
How did you enjoy $5.50 per gallon diesel?
November, 2008 -- DubYah requested bailouts for the big banks and AIG. No oversight and no restrictions.
Under DubYah's bailout trillions -- Five executives of one bank received $250-Million in bonuses from their bank's $25-BILLION bailout.
Every bailout under President Obama has included full oversight and absolute restrictions on executives' compensation.
Sam,I was among a lot of older individuals getting ripped off by private insurors.
During my business life, I negotiated dozens of group health policies with private insurors.
After retirement, I took my 18 months of COBRA and then bought an individual policy.
The same insuror proceeded to jack me around for three years, while at the same time the private group practice SELECTED BY THE INSUROR, put me through BIOPSY HELL.
Finally, I opted for the VA Medical Service I had earned. The VA medical service was excellent from Day One -- in 1996, until about mid-2001, when DUBYAH and his DRAFT DODGERS began slashing VAMS budgets.
The VA Medical professionals remained awesome, working with reduced supplies, equipment and general resources.
Only with the new administration has the VA budget been restored and service is actually better than it was in 2001. VA executives were told directly by this president to "take care of the veterans, they earned it and we owe it."
"..Are you on drugs?"
UNLIKE A HIGH PERCENTAGE OF GEARJAMMERS I HAVE WORKED WITH -- I don't do Meth, Speed, Crank or Go Pills to stay awake; or any other illegal drug.
As a point of fact, since the 1960s, I have worked thousands of hours with law enforcement to identify and apprehend drug dealers -- including as late as last year.
I do have prescriptions from the VA, which allow me to live a normal life going into my 80s.
I am required to pay for Medicare A & B out of my SSI benefits, even though I don't use those benefits.
Sam, you constantly stoop to name-calling against anyone who disagrees with you and responds by using facts and actual history, rather than your distorted ideas.
You have made your livlihood as a long-haul trucker over the SOCIALIST ROADS, but deny that truth.
" ...straight out of the the little Marxists handbook."
How the HELL a semi-literate trucker can come up with the garbage of calling a pure capitalist businessman, who has been engaged in profit-making private business DURING EIGHT DECADES since the age of NINE, a MARXIST --is about the biggest stretch of bigoted hatred anyone could envision of a early Cro-Magnon mindset.
HAVE YOU NOTICED -- The president spoke today to school children, in the same manner as every president since Eisenhower -- in the exact manner he first said would be used.
Only in President Obama's case, his concepts -- as endorsed by Newt Gingrick, Laura Bush and Bill O'Reilly -- carried a lot more weight for children of ethnic minorities and especially those who grew up without one or both parents in their lives.
Get a life, Sam, it is not the world that existed when I was attending a one-room prairie school, or when you were bullying your classmates.
I considered a saddle gun as a normal part of equipment and was charged with bringing in one meat animal (Jack rabbit, squirrel or ??) for every cartridge my father furnished.
I still consider guns in ranch pickups and saddle scabbards to be standard equipment.
But having pulled an invalid from her wheelchair to the floor to avoid bullets from a full-automatic assault rifle in an urban driveby shooting -- I DO NOT BELIEVE assault rifle and handgun ownership or possession to be a right of every drug gangster in the U.S.
If you do, I have a St. Louis block you can park on anytime you want to test your theories in the real world.
"I've always believed we would come out of this recession and it's becoming more and more clear that it will not be because of the Stimulus but despite the Stimulus."
That is because Rush Limbaugh said the same thing, only he phrased it as a prediction right after the stimulus bill passed. The problem is, it isn't true. Driving I-80 to Wyoming early last month I encountered tons of construction in both Nebraska and Wyoming. Looking around Lincoln I see construction workers rebuilding dilapidated schools and refurbishing schools in long need of repair. Not all the stimulus money is out yet, so the results are not in, but if you dont believe me, try The Wall Street Journal...
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB12518537...
"Socialism is the philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy."
- Winston Churchill (hat tip Sceptre)
HerndonHank, you sound like you've been a bitter old man for a long time. Time to let go of it.
Thanks for that Chunk, for those of us who weren't paying attention to Sceptre's post, now we have his echo chamber.
Sorry it this offends you Iggy, but to me it speaks volumes.
Hank - First of all...thank you for your service to Americans by serving in the Armed Forces. I for one, appreciate your efforts.
I must, however, take issue with one of your statements where you take Sam to task about how many babies he has personally taken responsibility for. The ONLY correct answer to that question is that any man who impregnates a woman in any fashion, should be the one who takes responsibility for the children. I have personally taken responsibility for the children I have sired, and I would recommend the same for any other man. In this instance Sam is correct to stand up for communal rights and the right to life for these young people. Anyone who objects is seriously the one who needs to take their position up with God.
But being that we don't live in a perfect world where people genuinely live up to their responsibilities...it begs the question...How many STD ridden 15 year old prostitutes have YOU personally taken responsiblity for? Hmmm.
Take the plank out of your own eyes, gentlemen, before calling out the speck in anothers.
Chunk,
I would probably be offended by that line if I was a socialist, but as I am not, what I find silly is the redundant use of such a mediocre quote.
And for the record, since a good portion the US have had many socialist aspects to it, ever growing since its very creation, shouldn't line be deeply offensive to someone like you? I mean, since America has free and public education, and interstates paid for by the federal government, and welfare, and national parks, and a space program, and state and federal governments build monuments, huge illustrious bridges, dams and spillways and other public works; since it raises armies and has federal police forces, then Churchill is talkin' $hit about America!!
Wow Iggy that quote must really bother you. Perhaps its element of truth?
Not all Chunk, my disagreeing with a quote does not inhere that it really bothers me. Quite the opposite, it has a very nice hyperbolic flair to it...I just thought you would be interested to know that America is and always has been part socialist. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, I know how much the people you trust most in your life ingrained that thought in your head.
What is telling is your running in fear from facing the reality of America, and hiding behind a recycled quote. Honesty in criticism, intellect in wisdom, equality in justice, these are the watchwords of democracy, that quote in all of its hyperbolic goodness, touches on none of the aforementioned.
"This fact should not be the reason to justify all out socialism..."
No Steffanie, but it justifies accountability in the inherently greedy and exploitative nature of free-market capitalism. I have said it before, if there is an institution better suited to protect and support every American than the federal government, I would be happy to change my support to it.
Not everyone has as strong a network of "friends, family, church, and charity," as you do Steffanie. Believe it or not, but some people have little or none of those things at all. Not because they are bad people, but because they weren't born into them as you were. But you are right there is waste, and inevitably there is fraud when the government gets involved, but the federal government has the constitutional responsibility to promote the general welfare, and it is the only entity with the scope and authority to do so. And lucky for us, the cost of all welfare programs (food stamps, unemployment, etc) makes up a minuscule percentage of our annual budget(about 1%) and that includes fraud and waste.
Also, you are dead wrong about people unable to ween themselves off of welfare. Here are some FACTS:
"Analyses indicate that 56 percent of AFDC support ended within 12 months, 70 percent within 24 months, and almost 85 percent within 4 years (Staff of House Committee on Ways and Means, 1996). These exit rates clearly contradict the widespread myth that AFDC recipients wanted to remain on public assistance or that welfare dependency was permanent."
http://www.apa.org/pi/wpo/myths.html
The problem is that welfare is used by the right pejoratively to score political points. They misconstrue these programs as a demonstration of lack of personal responsibility. But that reality is that poverty and low income results from low wages, debt, and hikes in unemployment. These are economic factors, not personal deficiencies.
Nobody is arguing that welfare is a cure for poverty, but a federal system that provides a safety net for the welfare of our fellow Americans when they are most in need is a moral (and Constitutional)obligation of our government.
Steffanie...this is makes me want to vomit, but I agree with you...safety net yes, way of life no.
As far as deleting something I must have missed what you are referring to.
Hmm, last time one of Sam's blogs disappeared he had written a grumpy early morning response to Hank and thought better of allowing too many folks to read it, so he deleted it himself.
