People lined up to have working automobiles destroyed, and to gleefully plunge into debt in the midst of a hard recession, all to make certain that the United Auto Workers get even more of your money. Money borrowed from the Communists in China, used to encourage our citizens to buy stuff they really don't need, and to go into debt. Are we going to need another bailout when all the people that bought these overpriced government motors vehicles can't pay their payments? Then the Democrats, ever ready to enslave you, will declare that car ownership is a right.
The Cash for Old Clunker Granny Program. Lets combine Hopey Change programs. The Obama White House could promote it like this: - Is your granny a "typical white person" like President Obama said his granny was? Then turn that old clunker in. Why spend health care dollars on that old Grandma? Granny has had her day, let us help Granny decide that it is time for her to go. - When you turn your old Granny in, you'll be saving valuable health care dollars. Dollars needed to pay for three or four thousand abortions every day. Remember, when Granny passes on, that will save your government valuable Social Security dollars as well. - Turn in your Granny, and we'll be able to insure millions upon millions of illegals. We'll be able to make sure every college professor has Viagra. We'll have more money for sex change operations, and mental health care, and marriage counseling, and alcohol and drug treatments, and more psych counseling than you'll be able to attend! All you need do, is turn in your old clunker Granny.

Why on God's green earth should Sam and his message of hatred and scare tactics deserve any reverence. The spirit of Jesus does not take on the appearance of a hateful or spiteful soul such as Sammy.
I believe that "You've Got to be Kidding" and "BuffRoam are the same person. The punchy irreverant writing is too similar, and seriously, the gene pool couldn't generate that much of a 'random' similarity.
But hey scizo...it was fun while it lasted.
First of all, we've given billions of dollars to the auto industry, let them finally go bankrupt and now we have to subsidize trade-ins too?! Government needs to back off and let these businesses operate in an unaltered market or else we'll never know exactly how well they are really doing.
Another thing is this joke about how the trade-in allowance is there to help boost car sales. If that was the main reason behind this then any car could receive the allowance. The main reason behind it is to promote an environmental agenda, not selling more cars. It's certainly not meant to provide substantial help to American auto compainies since 4 out of 5 vehicles sold under this program are foreign vehicles.
This is an environmental program sold under the guise of increased sales. You may like that, you may not but let's not kid ourselves and think this program was designed because it would increase sales, that's just a byproduct that helped sell the idea.
I don't know for sure how many vehicles will be taken off the road because of this program. At $1 billion I think there will still be enough cars around. At the increase of $2 billion, I'm not sure but if they keep this up then it will have a significant impact on people with lower incomes, teenagers and people who need parts for their older vehicles. Another interesting point is that they sure found $2 billion pretty easily. Wonder where that came from? What needed to be cut for it or is it just more debt? My bet is on debt given the previous examples of unprecedented wreckless disregard to the deficit this Congress has shown over the last several months.
Here is a better idea for Granny, take away her keys to the GTO and provide her with Government supported vans or busses so she can get to the grocery store and buy her medications. Is government supported senior centers and transportation too much socialism for you?

The program is actually working, so much in fact, that it ran out of money, and you and the rest of the people that are rooting for failure go beserk and say that it's going to cause worse problems. Yet, so far, the car companies are actually showing profits, the GDP is getting close to going positive again, the Dow is up, people are gaining confidence in the economy again.
As Obama has said multiple times, and you have either ignored or don't care (my guess is the latter) this process is not going to be quick or easy, and yet somehow you and your minions have already declared his presidency a failure after six months.
Your side is getting so desperate that they are protesting town hall meetings (which is their right) and yelling and screaming and calling everyone liars while presenting fake arguments and not letting anyone else talk.
