The Night The News Media DiedPosted Saturday, July 18, 2009, at 2:34 PM
Cronkite really established the position of "anchor'", taking over the number one position at CBS from Edward R. Murrow, and as Cronkite reported the news, his reputation and recognition among the people grew. Then, at a time in which Cronkite was given the moniker of being the most trusted man in America, Cronkite made a tragic mistake. Cronkite took the trust the American people had in him, and in one night, set the Media on a mutated course. That mutation has led to what we see today, a Media dead to its calling and sacred duty. It was Feb 28th, 1968, when Cronkite took that step to the dark side. Instead of simply reporting facts about his trip to Viet Nam, Cronkite, from his anchor chair, pronounced his opinions as facts. Cronkite, in a position of trust, decided that Media should not only report public opinion, but the Media should influence public opinion. If you love today's Media that worships at the feet of the elite politicians, then Walter Cronkite is the man to thank for it. It is a tough position to be in, having millions of people trust you, being admired and respected, and then it happens. Your own sunshine gets in your own eyes. Cronkite it not the first person to succumb to the wonders of being adored. Some handle it better than others, for Cronkite, he saw his fame and position as reason enough to change the American News Media into a political force. Cronkite led the "Main Stream Media" to its agenda driven ways of today, and not only that, Cronkite taught the Media how to affect its agenda, while claiming to be objective. After Cronkite retired, then his very liberal bias was allowed to come out of the closet. Still the damage had been done, and who knows if our News Media will ever recover. Cronkite showed today's (if you'll pardon the expression) Journalists, that it is perfectly okay to get into bed with leftist Democrat politicians. It was Cronkite, who took the mantle of integrity from Edward R. Murrow, and quickly trampled on it, and therefore trampled on the very idea of objective news reporting. Back in 1968, and it has been proven time and again, the USA was in a position to win in Vietnam. All that was needed was a little resolve, a little determination, and some faith. Cronkite help destroy all three with his opinions, presented as facts, facts from your trusted Uncle. The News Media cut loose after Cronkite crossed the line, if Cronkite can do it, so can we. And off they went, the News Media, now "free" to invent issues, to pick at societal sores, to support leftists causes, to propagandize, to confuse and therefore affect our nations policies and government. Still, I like hearing Walter Cronkite's voice describing news events that will live in our history. I wish the best for his family during this time of loss. You'll hear allot about Walter Cronkite in the next few days. Much of the Media will glorify Cronkite...and glorify his points of view. By glorifying what Cronkite did and thought, they hope to justify was has become of our News Media today. What Walter Cronkite did that February 27th, 1968 "news" broadcast, was to birth the age of the media-government conspiracy you see today. The News Media, ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, MSNBC, PBS, AP, RUETERS, and basically every big city newspaper, has been corrupted into a part of the Obama administration. Sadly, that is the true legacy of Walter Cronkite. That February night in 1968, was in fact, the night the News Media died. PBS?! Are you kidding me? You have truly wonked out, Mr. Eldridge, if you think that PBS has a liberal spin on it.
