The Emotionals

Posted Tuesday, April 28, 2009, at 1:10 PM

I really do get it. I understand why you Obama supporters get so upset when someone shines the light of truth on your guy.

I have freely confessed my religion, my beliefs in the God of the Bible. I have also stated my belief and trust in Jesus Christ. I have no problem admitting this. I defend my God, and my Savior, no bones about it.

You folks on the left have your own effective religion working, I am just not sure how I should address you. Calling you liberals is useless. Obama followers have gone way...way past liberalism.

Addressing you as Communists or Socialists would not be accurate either, because Communists and Socialists are not as devoutly religious as Obama followers are.

I want to help, you know I am a helping kind of guy. Lets anoint you dear folks, followers of your lord Obama, with a name that fits.

I hereby dub thee - The Emotionals.

I thought about using the word Zombies, but I don't want to insult Zombie-Americans. You Emotionals can daily promote pearls of wisdom from your Ayatollah Obama. Wait a minute; the title "Ayatollah" is not strong enough is it? Obama is more than your version of Billy Graham, or even your Moses. Obama is really your savior, isn't he? More like your guiding light.

I am sure that your savior Obama will quickly get around to writing your version of a bible. I want to help there as well.

The First Book of Obama: Hope

The Book of Hope can list your ten commandments. Get them down in writing so we can all see your fantastic religion.

Hope 1:1 Trust in government for all your needs.

Hope 1:2 All money and riches belong to the government.

Hope 1:3 Envy anyone who has it better than you.

Hope 1:4 Obey Obama.

Hope 1:5 Wants are the same as needs.

Hope 1:6 From goo, to the zoo, too you.

Hope 1:7 Do not tell the truth when a lie will do.

Hope 1:8 Worship the Earth.

Hope 1:9 Government can never be too big.

Hope 1:10 Logic is evil; trust only your emotions and lord Obama.

We all need our holy scripture. Then your lord Obama could give more pearls of wisdom in his second book for the Emotionals called: Change

Change 1:1 Be content in what your government gives you.

Change 1:2 The unborn are a punishment to mankind.

Change 1:3 Get others to pay your share of taxes.

Change 1:4 Life is only precious when it is on death row.

Change 1:5 Homosexual Sodomy? Go for it!

Change 1:6 Never admit your religion

You get the general idea. That way, when you give moveon.org talking points, you can give chapter and verse.

Let me caution you Emotionals on prayer however. I don't know how it is when you pray to Obama, but god's don't always give you want you want. Ask Henrietta Hughes, the Emotional woman who prayed to Obama in that Fort Myers Florida town hall meeting.

She asked her savior for a house, and car, and a bathroom, and as of a couple of days ago, Henrietta's prayers have not been really answered by her lord Obama. A fellow Emotional let her use a house for a while, but that is coming to and end. So after this poor woman's' very public prayer to her savior Obama, his lordship did not see fit to answer her.

Such is the way with gods sometimes.

What happened to your post from last night Sam? Didn't want everyone to see your butt get spanked sideways by Herndon Hank?

I am not an Obama supporter, and I dont practice ANY religion, so I wont go there. Have you noticed that when President Obama speaks, the future that he speaks of is much like the one I would like to see. I just can see the changes he is making ever getting us there. Maybe I just fear change? But I get the feeling we are heading for a train wreck.

You know Sam,

There ARE some people who 'worship' Obama. They see him as a hero, or a savior. They subscribe to a "cult of personality" that has surrounded the man.

This (in my opinion) was why the republicans chose Sarah Palin as the VP nominee. They wanted someone THEY could form a "cult of personality" around. And to a large extent, they succeeded. Throwing aside my disagreement with her policies and my questions of her judgment, she is an effective speaker and a powerful personality, which was what the republicans needed to combat the cult of personality that formed around Barack Obama.

So, yes, many people were enamored with Obama, simply because he was Obama. Just as many people were enamored with Sarah Palin just because she was Sarah Palin.

You could argue that this type of hero-worship shouldn't come into play during an election (I might even agree). But it does, and BOTH parties tried to take advantage of it. They aren't wrong for doing so. They simply played the game with the existing rules.

But let me make this point. The people who worshiped the candidates were the MINORITY. I know you don't want to hear that. You want to hear that all the people who voted for Obama did it because of his shining personality, not because they agreed with his politics. Just like I'm sure many liberals want to hear how all the votes the republican ticket received were just because conservatives were too obsessed with Sarah Palin. But the truth is that those fanatic supporters who surrounded the candidates were the MINORITY of voters.

McCain/Palin lost SOME votes because people engaged in hero-worship for Obama. But they lost the MAJORITY of the votes because people were sick of republican policies and republican leadership. That is also why they have lost the House, and why they lost the senate.

Conservatives can blame 'Obama-worship' for the loss all you want. But the fact is the country has shifted to the left not because of one man, but because of the events and policies of the last 8 years.

I understand the bitterness. The need to blame something, ANYthing for what you view as a tremendous mistake.

So you can keep talking to "The Emotionals". Just remember that MOST of us support the president because of his policies and the good decisions he has made so far. And that MOST of us will honestly criticize him if we perceive that he screws up. And that MOST of us appreciate that we have ANY intelligent liberal man running the country, regardless of whether his name is Obama. And that only a FEW of US worship him in the way you suggest.

G5,

You might find it "reprehensible" that he is bringing and end to the Iraq war and closing Guantanamo bay. You might find it "reprehensible" that he strengthens ties with countries like Venezuela and Cuba. You might find it "reprehensible" that he's spending so much money on things like health care, education, and infrastructure.

I don't call these things "reprehensible", I call them campaign promises. America elected this man who promised during the campaign to end the war, close Guantanamo, talk to our enemies, and invest in our country.

Regardless of whether or not you agree with what he's doing, many of his actions (the ones you find so reprehensible) have been the will of the people. The majority of the people in this country WANTED those things to happen so they elected the man who promised to do those things.

I understand that it sucks to be in the minority, to have an elected president that subscribes to a foreign policy you find "reprehensible". But that's democracy. It can't make everyone happy.

"Just what does Obama have to do to get your criticism, jhat?"

Well, he has done some small things that irk me. The Air Force One flyover of NYC comes to mind, though by all accounts given, he was as pissed about that as most of us were. And some of the gifts he has given to foreign leaders have been in poor taste. But those are (relatively) pretty small things. I know so many people hung on to every little thing Bush did wrong. Whether it was trying to open the wrong doors or rubbing the shoulders of the German chancellor. And I do think its a little hypocritical of those people to not nitpick Obama for the small things that go wrong with his administration.

But I'm not one of those people. While I did find the successive litany of Bush gaffes to be annoying, I didn't obsess over them like alot of people. I'm more concerned with the BIG decisions. Like taking the country to war on a false premise, playing on the country's outrage over an attack to justify an unnecessary war. Like the outing of a spy for political reasons, and the subsequent pardon to protect the man responsible. Like the bungling of a major catastrophe (Katrina). Like the prisoner abuse in Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo Bay.

The people on the right who are hanging on every little perceived "gaffe" of Obama's don't realize that they have become the mirror image of the people who did the same thing to Bush.

G5,

I am completely sure you have no idea what you are talking about when you begin to voice your opinion on religion.

The Israel-Palestine conflict has been going on for hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of years. In my opinion both have claims to the land, there is no right and wrong. I know you wish the world was black and white, but its not. The country of Israel is technically palestine, and muslims were mad that the U.N. did what they did. But technically, the jewish people were there first and lost the land. So they have a legitimate beef as well.

But quite frankly the actions taken by both sides are inexcusable. And your last comment made me laugh. You do realize that christians, muslims, and jews all have the same God? Not only that, Abraham is considered the father of faith to all three religions. And muslims and jews are in agreement that Jesus was not the son of God. But unlike the jews, the muslims believe that God did have a son on earth. So believe it or not, our religion is closer in its base to islam than it is to judaism.

Current Concerns of most Americans:

1. Economy

2. Health Care

3. Currently, Swine Flu

4. Safety/foreign policy

Current Concerns of conservative extremists:

1. Barack Obama's birth certificate

2. Barack Obama shaking hands with Hugo Chavez

3. Barack Obama's birth certificate

4. Barack Obama bowing to a saudi king

5. Barack Obama's birth certificate

6. College brainwashing

7. Barack Obama's birth certificate

Prioritize much?

I find it hilarious sam that with the amount of complaining and whining and downright being sore losers that conservatives have been wrapped up in since election day that you actually come out with a blog calling those who support the president "the emotionals".

Hypocrisy at its finest

Yes, the Israel-Palestine conflict is not as simply as many people would have you think.

The Israelis have been creating settlements beyond their established borders. This infuriates Palestinians and breeds anti-semitic sentiment in the West Bank. This anger allows extremist groups like Hamas to consolidate power in Gaza. And when the inevitable attacks against Israel occur, Israel reacts fairly violently. In the past, they've taken down entire Palestinian buildings to get one room full of terrorists. The attacks from both sides breed resentment.

The problem is further compounded by religion. Both peoples believe that God gave them that land.

In the end, neither side is in the right. The Israelis have done horrible things to Palestine, but Palestinians are guilty of most of the same crimes

McCookreader,

While all three Abrahamic religions share quite a bit, Judaism is closer to Christianity than Islam. It is true that Muslims recognize Jesus as a great prophet (second only to Muhammad), Christianity and Judaism are more closely intertwined (old testament laws/prophesies, old testament stories.) There are extensive commonalities between all three, but Judaism is a bit closer to Christianity. It's a shame more people don't realize how similar Islam is to Christianity/Judaism, I think the misunderstanding fuels anti-Muslim sentiment.

Jhat,

You are correct in regards to the old testament. But the New Testament is the difference between christainity and judaism. I see what you mean about the two religions sharing the old testament, but Jesus in his teachings gave several messages that went against the teachings of the old testament. This is why you will see many christians walking around with a pocket book of gospels rather than a pocket book exodus.

While you may technically be right, considering the fact that judaism does not acknowledge the son of god being on earth yet, i would argue that islam and christianity are closer due to the fact that they both recognize a figure as the son of god.

The whole basis of christianity is God and Jesus.(not getting into the trinity) Not just god. The whole basis of islam is God and muhamad not just god. Whereas Judaism focuses solely on the existince of only God thus far.

mccookreader,

True. Very True. Who do muslim's recognize as a son of God? Muhammad was a prophet, not the son of Allah?. Or am I mistaken?

Sam, I think it might be helpful to understand our president's view of American life from his perspective in a conversational setting. I found this recent 6-page interview quite interesting.
