Let me ask you this, if you buy alcohol, are you poor? I say no. If you can afford to buy booze and drink, you are not poor. If you buy cigarettes, you know, to support a pack a day habit, are you poor? I say no. If you can support a hundred buck a month habit, you're not poor. What if you have a flat screen television? How about Internet, computer and satellite television? Are you poor if you have these things? I say no. What about buying tattoos, and piercings, are you poor if you're out getting these things? I say no. In the world of Obama and his fellow Communists, a person who is drinking regularly, smoking, has a plasma TV, Internet, laptop, and getting a new tattoo, is poor. Now I ask you, could a person afford their own house, without you and I paying for it, if the alledged poor person was better at handling the money they have? You see, the Communists talk about the poor, but they care nothing for the poor. The poor are just an instrument of power. To Obama, the poor are mules, with which to ride to power. You see, I think it is Obama and the Communists who rob the poor. How? Glad you asked. The Commies rob the poor, by robbing them of the struggle to succeed. My daughters grew up in a lower-middle class family. When it came time to go to college, there was no big college fund. The girls had to work their way through school. We helped where we could, but our daughters worked full time, and went to college, and basically paid for it themselves. When graduation came, well, the ladies were rightfully happy with themselves for overcoming, they grew through the STRUGGLE. The thief Obama, wants to take that privilege, that honor of the struggle, away from the "poor". Why? Because, God forbid, people would learn that they could survive without the assistance of liberal politicians. It is the left that robs and mistreats the poor, not conservatives. The commies would rather toss a fish at a poor person, and feel so very good about themselves, than teach the person to fish, and have them not need help anymore. The left needs people incapable of doing for themselves, so they foster a notion that people, who may have to struggle, are somehow wronged by society, and that this wrong must be compensated for. It really is sick, isn't it? Compassion? Dear Leader Obama does not have compassion for the poor, if he did, he would work to let people overcome, adapt and conquer. Instead, Dear Leader Obama tells millions that they can do nothing without the government helping them out. Yesterday, on the Sean Hannity show, there was a "man on the street" segment, in which, Sean's producer went out on the street, to ask some simple questions. What I heard was horrible, although not unexpected, considering who we have for President. Sean asked: Should government provide total health care for free? Answers, yes! Should the government provide dental? Yes. Should the government pay all college costs? Answer 80% to yes. Should the government provide you a car? Yes. (one guy, age 24, said the Government should provide door to door shuttle or limo service, I kid you not) Should the government provide free child care? Yes. Yet, none of these Obama worshippers even knew who the Vice President was. Amazing. Who is harming the poor in America? I say it is Dear Leader, Chairman Mao'Bama and his fellow Communists that mistreat the poor. They want people stupid, and in a constant state of need. This is evil, and they do it for power, and dare I say money? There is not a single one of these big time liberal commie politicians that is not rich. The Democrats/Communists are robbing the rich, stealing their hearts, stealing their futures, making them dependent upon everyone but themselves. What do we call such people? Are you insinuating that the homeless person on the street begging for a pack of cigs has not struggled to obtain that one pack? That the person who owns a flatscreen television hadn't at one point worked to buy it? We are none of us priviledged, nor should we pretend to be, in this representative republic of ours. Where is your relational perspective, Sam? I'm glad your daughters struggled through school to join the 34% of Americans who have a Bachelor's degree. Hopefully it will help them try and rationalize the arguments you make that seem to be based purely out of hatred, fear, and mindless flaying about than on enlightened reason. You are a true polemicist operating on a platform that proffers anything to negate freedom and truth, using your self-important blog to proffer a faux forum of debate, but knowing full well that regardless of what others might think, you will never truly reflect on some of the words you spew. How are posts such as these supposed to spawn intelligent debate? It's something to think about (not what poor is, or who is poor, or any of your ridiculous insults on the president [feeling a little smallish, Sam?]): the issue of exactly how the government should be handling the current scenario we are in. But it seems like you're not really interested in talking about that. Which is sad. Personally, I'm really torn. I'd love to hear what other people think. But I don't expect to learn much when it's mechanistically framed in the hatred with which you begun this thread.
Well Sam, you finally did it for me as I'll no longer read your rants. Between calling for civil war and your rediculous idea to get Americans to stop paying their mortgage in an effort to get the president removed from office, the bile you spew isn't worth reading anymore as far as I'm concerned.
Too bad... at one time I thought you had something intellegent to say, but your mind has taken a walk off the map in my opinion. If you think you represent conservatism, I want nothing to do with it.

I used to coach little league football. I had some kids that were quick, agile, and seemed to play well and make it through a practice without a sweat. I had others that worked hard, and even practiced at home, but they just couldnt get quite to the level of some of the more gifted kids even though they put as much, if not more effort into it. The point I am trying to make is that people have different levels of potential, depending on the gifts they were given.
It is true Sam that some people will only do enough to keep the government assistance coming, even if they have the potential to do much better. And these people are poor for a reason. There are also people that will try hard and always struggle. These people may always need some assistance, but they will always make progress. They may be poor, but they will be successfull in my eyes.
For the people that will only do enough to stay on public assistance, I would love to slam that door for them and force them to raise the bar a little. The problem is that we dont have a way of sorting these people out, and there is a lot of them.
For the people that work hard and try; some will always need assistance, and that is ok with me. Most will overcome the struggle and rise above public assistance. The people that are going to grow, will grow regardless of how easy it is to give up. PRIDE, is a beautiful thing.
I dont really agree with throwing money at the public assistance program with little or no control over what type of person will reap the benefits, but there is little these places can do as far as sorting them out. If I have to benefit a couple of losers to help 1 good man or woman through the struggle, everybody wins, because that one good man or woman will do us all some good.
One last note: I am not an Obama supporter, I did not vote for him. But I do hope for his success, becuase my country needs him to be successful.

I was not a fan of George Bush's policies, and I was and continue to be deeply troubled by some of the choices he made as president. But the bottom line is that name-calling and blameful rhetoric is nothing more than grease on spinning wheels. I personally am a doer: I can't sit still to save my life. So really, if we're going to have debate, let's debate the issues, not how we frame them (which seems to get us nowhere). Yet I'm no ideologue. I was living overseas during the start of the war with Iraq, frequently being contacted by the embassy of the country I was in (New Zealand) to beware of my safety. This was out of general threats being thrown around against Americans. Kiwis were disgusted by Bush and what he was doing, and were willing to associate my being American with an agreement of his policies, and also to proffer their hatred of Bush onto me. I love my country, and love it more and more every time I spend time in another. I spent a lot of time convincing people that not everyone agreed with the war, even though we wanted to support our troops and our country. We could have instead been trying to get at the heart of an international perspective of this situation, from citizens of a government that has many parties for democratic representation with equal stakes in how their system works. They have true debate over there in their parliament. But the frustration and anger that I ended up focusing on in order to "reposition" the rhetoric (theirs and mine) prevented that, and we didn't end up learning much from each other.
It's hard to do--to focus on an issue and not its many guises of fallout--and I'd never be the first to say I'm successful at it. But generally, I think that if you can't actually debate an issue then the debate itself needs to be understood for what it is (or in this case, what it is not).
I see that you people decided to lynch Sam with a cyber lynching true to your conditioning, and brainwashing. Before you spew more venom, I would like to see a responsible argument, or at least outline something more than your feelings.

Obama was born in a Honolulu Hospital on August 4, 1961. Hawaii gained stateship on August 21, 1959. Thus, he is a citizen.
After 2 years, Barack's parents got a divorce, his dad went back to kenya and his mom married a student at the university of Hawaii from Indonesia.
4 years later obama moved to Indonesia with his mother and step father and lived there from age 6-10.
At age 10 he decided to go live with his grandparents back in Hawaii. He lived there from age 10 until high school graduation.
After going to college in LA, NY, and CHicago, Barack went to Kenya in 2006 to visit the homeland. This is 24 yrs after his father had died.
None of that equates to living in Kenya or going to school in kenya. So contrary to popular belife, Obama was not influenced by the teachings of his father while going to school in a terrorist school in Kenya. The blatant lies about his man's bast are ridiculous.

When I first stumbled across your blog, I shared the link with a number of my college buddies and used it as an example of why I could never move back to my hometown near McCook, NE. Your blog stands as a strong example of the hate-mongering conservatisim that I experienced far too often in my upbringing, and I could never expose my children to the kind of lifestyle that you so proudly display.
I hope that for the sake of SW Nebraska and NW Kansas, the Gazette decides to pull the plug on your dog and pony show. Maybe then the area can be represented in a more flattering way.

This blog, and all of the posts raise some interesting questions, and out of curiosity, I would like to read some of the posters honest answeres to the questions, if anybody cares to participate. My answeres are below.
1. Is Sam a nut case? I dont really think so. I think he writes some of these blogs just to start an argument that he will later enjoy reading. I also think that the most important thing about Sams blogs is that he provokes others to think.
2. What is poor? It doesnt matter. What ever your income, you must learn to live withing your means. Dont spend half your paycheck on beer and tobacco, or pop out a few more kids you cant pay for, then ask me for help.
3. Is the financial struggle that most of us endure in early adulthood a useful thing? I think so, it goes back to the old saying, " you gain some of the most valuable experience of your life, right after you need it." People learn alot of lessons and truly become an adult after they have been slapped in the face by reality a few times.
4. Will there be progress made in the poor and homeless situation by throwing more money into public assistance program? I dont think so. People who are truly making an effort will overcome even if you dont give them more food stamps and dont extend the jobless benefit. The only people that will get much benefit from extending these programs are the people that intend to stay there.
5. Is Obama harming the poor? No, I think he is just throwing our money away. Most of the really poor are poor for a reason. They want a hand out not a hand up. You can throw all the money you want at them, and they will still be poor because digging out of the hole will require them to put down the crack pipe and pick up the work gloves, thats not going to happen.
I am not saying that they are all addicts, I am saying that most of the truly poor will always seek the easy way and this will not change no matter how much of our money you give them or how much you educate them.
5. Is Obama an American Citizen? I dont care...neither are half of the people that live in this country and own half of this country.(exaggeration) I dont think his citizenship is an indication of what kind of leader he can be, a bad idea can come from anyone. I dont care for him as president, but only because too many of his views differ from my own, that has nothing to do with his race, citizenship, part affiliation or religeon.

However, I'm affraid your tendency to doll out trendy cospiracy theories and paint the world with one brush stroke (I'm not, and nor did I make any mention of being a liberal) makes you unqualified to discuss critical thinking with any authority.

Having been on assistance and clawed my way off of it (at the end of December, 2008, thank you) I get really tired of hearing people bash everybody who needs a bit of help.
I'm a single mom doing the best I can for my kids. I don't consider myself poor, even though my income falls below poverty level. I consider myself Working Class. Yes, I've seen people milk the system, and they piss me off, because they're liars and thieves.
Liars and thieves are on the top of my list of people that I can't stand. Next on my list are the intolerant.
I have come to realize, Sam, that you are in this second category. Therefore, I'm with Brian, and will never visit your blog again.

Some clown who has not been out of his own tracks within human memory suddenly knows everything.
Obama's grandmother, a retired Bank Vice President and half-century resident of Hawaii was a confirmed terminal patient in the hospital there when Obama rushed to see her a last time.
His visit was more than public, leaving the campaign schedule -- and some genius labeling himself G-4 says the visit and her death a few days later are totally fraudulent.
Hell man, there were dozens if not hundreds of newsmen and photographers all over that hospital from the day the woman first checked in.
No record of his mother having a passport prior to the late 60s, just before she moved to Indonesia with her second husband, she married while still in the University of Hawaii. Said passport issued after she completed her first U of H degree. Funny, U of H records don't show any extended absence for her to travel to Kenya. No passport issued to her at that time and tons of hospital records, U of H records, newspaper vital statistic reports published at that time documenting the birth in the local hospital.
WHEE -- everyone knew this half African baby would grow up to run for president.

I just watched the live TVcast of Obama visiting Camp LeJuene Marine Center and Cherry Point Air Base in North Carolina -- that well known hotbed of Ex-Senator Jesse Helms inspired Communism.
A big, highly decorated WHITE marine sergeant proudly displayed the hand that shook Obama's hand and declaring "It's good to meet a President I can believe in."
Now G-4, there is a marine who has been over the mountain and skinned the bear, and has served three tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. He's evacuated dead and wounded Marines under fire.
He has been out of stuck-in-the-mud tracks and is not full of male bovine excrement.

In my travels, I have seen destitution, and poverty. Please believe that we, Americans, do not know the meaning of poverty. Our people, living beneath a bridge, or in a dumpster, are well off, compared to the poverty in many areas of earth.
Wealthy? I am not, by American standards, but by international standards, my retirement exceeds, monthly, what many families earn, in a year, to feed themselves, and children. Prospectus is the view one must consider, before stating rich or poor. A poor person in a border town in Texas, might well be considered rich by the person living on the other side of the border, not ten miles away.
Please, Please, stop the bickering, come together, and let us seek the answer to our problems. If this wonderful country of ours should fail, we will destroy the economy of most of the civilized world. We would never be forgiven for not correcting our error.

Be very careful when invoking the passage about revolution, as its measure in relation to your willingness to act upon it will be taken by many eyes other than the regular readers of Sam's silly blog. Look carefully at the words "light and transient causes." If the election system breaks down, the majority of Americans no longer want Obama as president, the two term arrangement is abandoned, the Joint Chiefs pledge fidelity to stand against enemies to Obama rather than America, and Obama refuses to step down as leader, THEN and only then should we even consider looking at that passage with intent. To those of us on planet Earth, this notion is patently ridiculous...George Bush was more likely to pull something like that off than Obama. I am afraid the only real option you have available that doesn't end in tragedy for America, is for you to oppose Obama as loudly as you can, rally as much support as humanly possible to side with your vision of America, and try to wait out the next 4 years. The bottom line that nobody there seems to get is that most Americans are sick and tired of Republicans and their way of governance. The people chose and now you get to live with it. G5 says it will be a bumpy road...and for you and him and Sam, it certainly will be. Is it better to buckle up or to try to get out and try to stop the car? Which is more likely to end badly for you?

I never called for a civil war, come on now, don't put words in my mouth. I said: "I firmly believe that unless this Communist takeover is stopped by protest or other political means, this country is headed for a civil war and a possible break up, not to mention complete bankruptcy and utter financial disaster."
Do you folks think that the second amendment was put into the Bill Of Rights to protect duck hunting? I don't get that impression. I see that the founders wanted the citizens armed so that the government would behave. They wanted the the right to bear arms to protect against government tyranny.
I think there are millions of citizens that will not go quietly into a Soviet style of government.

Also, if a former Ambassador under Ronald Reagan, a black man, a man of faith, Alan Keyes, had the courage to come out and call Mr. Obama what he is, a Communist, then I took courage from that man. Today, I had a long conversation with a man who owns a small business. He talked with pride about how he built his business from a pickup truck and two hundred dollars, to a company that employs sixteen folks. It took him twenty years.
That is the America I used to know. People with success stories, people who built dreams. Today, I see a different America emerging, one in which people give minimum effort, and expect maximum results.

As far as those who don't want to read my blog anymore, well, I understand. These are tough times. Strong opinions are usually treated with contempt, I know that, I wasn't born yesterday.
Then why do I do it? Because I fear for my country's' well being and survival.
As far as my "suggestion" about not paying mortgages to drive Obama from office, I guess I was really trying to point out that "we the people" still have power. It may not seem like it, but we do. I also pointed out when I made that comment, that I was dreaming. Wishful thinking it was. I do wish Americans would see the gravity of the situation we find ourselves.
So, to Kurt, Bigsurmac, McCookreader, and good ole Guillermo, I have a healthy respect for you folks, I really do. I know we are light years away from reaching common ground, but I know you love this country, like I do.

Let me see if I have this all lined up:
As long as there is a Republican holding Presidential office--specifically, a God fearing, fiscally conservative Republican--who aligns philosophically, ideologically, and morally with what YOU believe, insofar as the ways in which YOU have been indoctrinated by your parents, schools, and communities to view the world...as long as this specific kind of person is in office, then no matter HOW BADLY THEY ARE HURTING AMERICA, the country will inevitably avoid turning God spiteful, because by putting up with this Republican, Americans have not "turned their back on God." However, if the same people who elect this Republican for the most part all agree that he is doing more harm than good to us personally, nationally, and internationally, and by peacefully following the guidelines and procedures established by the founders of the United States to make changes in leadership, these people elect their only other choice as leader (given the two party system), then the people will anger God, and He will become like a school girl, turning his back on us for turning our back on him? Does anyone actually believe this bankrupt logic? No offense, but what ever Pastor said this has a very grim view of God's benevolence.
PS...Here is something else to consider: God blesses the whole world and not just the United States.
