Player Piano

In 1952, Kurt Vonnegut wrote Player Piano, which I think was his first novel. You can not exactly call Vonnegut a conservative, yet he delivers a fabulous dystopian view of what liberals in America would love to have.

The society is run by an oligarchy, and everyone who has a actual function in running the society is called Doctor. This oligarchy consists of great thinkers, but they are not great doers. Sounds like liberals huh?

That only accounts for a small proportion of the population, the rest of the citizens are in government service. They all live in houses that are exactly the same, to be fair to the peasantry. The workers are all given the same washers and dyers, the same cars, the same income, the same everything. Basically, they are slaves to the State, but they are equal! They have fairness!

Vonnegut had liberalism figured out in 1952, sadly many people today see liberalism up close and they are clueless.

Vonnegut was more making a statement about mechanics replacing man, but the arrogance of the oligarchy runs throughout the story.

If you read this book, you may as well go ahead and grab a couple by Ayn Rand. Atlas Shrugged, and the Fountainhead. The left "thinks" they like Ayn Rand because she was an atheist, but they quickly discover that Ayn Rand was a conservative through and through.

She brilliantly describes the dangers of following ideology espoused by communists and leftists.

As a side note, I think I know a way that Obama and the commies could be defeated, and sent from office, in ninety or one hundred twenty days.

I know I am dreaming here, but it would be possible. How? Call it the Producers Revolt. Every citizen who has a mortgage would simply refuse to pay it. What? The banks are going to repossess millions upon millions of homes? And do what with them?

At the same time, if you have cash in banks, take it out. When the banks collapse, do you think someone from Washington, with a big bag full of money, is going to come around and pay you what was in the bank in cash? HA! When the banks collapse, the government is going to hand you a piece of worthless paper. Good luck buying groceries with it.

The point is, that Liberty dies each day Obama is in office. Freedom dies a little bit every day Obama is in office. The nation moves closer to bankruptcy every day Obama and the commies are in control.

Afraid to lose your house? My friends, your house is already in the game, already in the middle of the table. That happened a few days ago, when Obama and the commies mortgaged our future for political payoffs. Your home is in the game pal. Obama has already put you and I "all-in".

At least under my idea, you would have the chance to save your country for your "all-in" bet.

If someone came to you and said, we can save the country for future generations, and for your children...all it will cost you is your house. Would you give it up?

One big question to end all debate,

How did the economy get so bad in the first place sam?

You can't possibly blaim it on obama who wasn't even in office at the time.

Every financial expert, whether they are republican or democrat will tell you that the economy took a huge downward turn during bush's second term.

Ignoring everything else in your above post, which is riddled with inaccuracies,

What, in your opinion, makes Obama a communist. Ive heard you throw it around. But i don't understand if it is just a form of name calling, or if you actually believe he is a communist. Ive heard him called a socialist, but socialism and communism are very different.

So in short, why do you think he is a communist?

One question G5, do you honestly believe in McCain was in office right now, our economy would be any better?

And to reference your thoughts on socialism,

Socialism is when society has shared ownership in certain things, communism is where everyone is equal.

Thus, socialized medicine would be an example of socialism, while uniforms in private school are an example of basic communism.

I believe that quote is misleading, socialism isnt about bringing everyone to the same level. It's about people being able to control their surroundings. Communism is where people own nothing, and are products of their government.

I just realized that post sort of glorified socialism, but compared to communism, it is much different.
