Some Borshch For ThoughtPosted Monday, February 16, 2009, at 2:22 PM
The New Stimulus Bill
Think about changing the way you have fun. Seriously, President Obama says this is the worst economy since the Great Depression. We know it's BULL, but still he says it, and many believe it apparently. SO, how dare you ride around on that golf cart when people are doing without health care? From a government point of view, you have too much money. Money wasted on the golf cart could provide a woman on disability with fertility treatments. To paraphrase Bill Clinton, "no golf cart ever fed a hungry child". AND, don't be going to expensive football games. Very insensitive of you, going to ball games when there are people who need houses they can not afford. Capitalist pig! AND what in the name of Karl Marx are you doing pulling that Harley on a trailer behind your camper? Mexican immigrants don't have health care! Money you spent on that Harley could be given to the poor. You'll feel better, trust me. It is hard to understand people who go fishing when the polar bears are dying. Riding Harleys, camping and fishing during these hard times tells the government that you have too much money. Vacations? C'mon now, think. Only "green" vacations should be taken. Stay at home, work on your lawn, and whatever you do, don't smile. What right have you got to smile? There are people living under a bridge in Denver, and you're smiling? Just how insensitive are you? Taking vacation trips and smiling are indications to the government that you have more money than you REQUIRE. I wonder about the future of Pro Sports. Businesses that President Obama and his followers hate, well they support Pro Sports. Will Budweiser ever be able to lay off anyone, if they advertised during the Super Bowl? We are about to get whole new definitions of morality in the United States. Look at Nancy Pelosi. She just got thirty million of your dollars for a mouse in her area, and isn't that so very moral of her? Yet, letting a man or woman keep more of their own hard earned money is immoral. You can get some insurance against Liberal/Socialist/Progressives by becoming a community organizer. You can be a pain in the neck, right here at home. Drive around and look for things that need to be done. When you find something, don't do it yourself! Call government and demand that it get done. See how it works? When you do this, the left loves you, and you'll be ready for a run into politics. You could even have fun by organizing town hall meetings, where people can show up to beg government officials, or even the President, for a car, or houses, bathrooms, etc., etc. After government takes over health care, the number of children you have, could be regulated. After all, who is paying for these babies? You take money from Uncle Obama, and Uncle Obama is in charge. The environmentalists could argue that wanting to have a child is selfish, and harmful to the planet dude. One way to make money now is to declare war on plastic bags. You could get cash TODAY from some environmentalists group in San Fransisco to ban plastic trash bags in your town. Push for reusable bags, forget the War On Terror, get those plastic bags out of our neighborhoods! This is just one example of how to make trouble as a Socialist. That is the essence of Socialism. Create trouble, then empower government to take care of that trouble. Fun days are ahead. I know one thing about liberals...they hate fun even more than they hate Bush. I love the way you are pointing out absurdities by being absurd!! Keep it up Sam, maybe someone out there will wake up and realize what is being done TO us not FOR us by the Commie Libs!!
From mighty Oaks, grow Five Billion Dollar Acorn.
LOL @ PETA.
Has Peta been able to rename fish - "sea kittens" yet?
Take heart G5, it is going to be fun watching the leftists self destruct.
Nothing could be funnier than that town hall meeting from Fort Meyers, FL. Wow, was that a joke.
Don't you love these bleeding hearts? I have to be careful not to read Jhat, or dawg, or bigsur immediately after eating. Back in the day, we called these types "Red Diaper Babies".
Speaking of Red Diaper Babies, do a study of Obama's mother, Stanley Ann Dunham. Yes, Stanley is her first name, and talk about a radical leftist, Holy Freaking Cow on a Popsicle Stick!
It gets strange, when you draw obvious comparisons of Obama and his momma, and Hitler and his momma. Queer indeed.
But this is the United States, and the religious left in this country will not do what the religious left did in Germany. We, on the right, will prevail.
I'd like to know who came up with that political spectrum, that shows total government, Communism on the far left, and more total government, Nazis on the right.
That is wrong, Nazis are just a different type of leftist thugs.
Clear back in the eighth grade, (the sixties for me) I use to argue with my Civics teacher over the political spectrum. I would argue that since one side, Communism, is total government, then would not the opposite side be anarchy?
I think liberals came up with the bogus political spectrum which shows Nazis on the right because they were embarrassed that they are really the same side as Nazis.
And yet they are. Many on the left chide you and I for believing in God. They say God is a fairy tale, etc. AND yet, what do leftists beleive in? A benevolent government! Can you believe it? They actually think that there is a government that can be benevolent. Talk about having some goofy beliefs. You have to have religious type faith to think that a government, of any kind, will be benevolent.
That is why our Government was GOOD for a long time, because the government acknowledged that GOD was the guarantor of rights, not government. Of course, since the left began its run back in the sixties, the left says God is bad and government is good, and we are just to trust that! No questions please, and if you ask questions, they try the old "paper stack" technique. That is to batter you with alledged facts, and hope you'll wear down.
My firm beleif is that being a leftist is pathological. It stems from some deep seated self-loathing, than runs through their whole lives. I cannot really understand the why of it, but I see it in the way the left regards animals. They are worth more than us. They are more noble, they have more regard, according to the left...and that is just weird.
Sam,
Just to explain your confusion with the political spectrum. (and I'm not being sarcastic, there is a common misunderstanding of the political spectrum).
The reason that the Nazi's are shown on the right of the political spectrum is because the 2-dimensional (left-right) political spectrum is fundamentally flawed and inadequate to express political beliefs. We use it in America BECAUSE it is simple and easier for everyone to understand.
But as I've posted before, the simple left-right (communism-anarchy) political spectrum doesn't take enough into account.
For example, many libertarians consider themselves rightists, while others consider themselves leftists. The left-right political spectrum is inadequate to represent their beliefs. They reject the democrat's idea that government should meddle in the economy, but they also reject the reduction in civil liberties and authoritarianism that is associated with the modern republican party.
To adequately express political beliefs, we need to use a spectrum with at LEAST two axises.
Examples:
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/co...
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Politi...
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/co...
For demonstration purposes, I will use the Pournell model (the last one).
The X-axis represents attitude toward the state (and is labeled statism), while the y-axis represents the attitude towards planned social progress (and is labeled rationalism)
You can see that the Nazi's are as far over on the "statism" axis (x-axis) as communism. They were militant socialists. The reason it is not in the same quadrant as socialism is that Nazism also incorporated elements of fascism. This brings it down to the lower right quadrant, as fascism ranks low on the "rationalism" axis (y-axis).
So Nazism and socialism are equivalent on ONE axis (x-axis), but not on the other axis (y-axis) due to the Nazi incorporation of fascism.
The left-right oversimplification of the political spectrum sometimes puts socialism and Nazism at diametrically opposed ends, depending on whether the illustrator wants to demonstrate their fascism or their socialism.
I am not trying to be snarky here. I am genuinely trying to explain why socialism and nazism are sometimes placed at opposite ends of the right-left spectrum. Sorry for the wordiness.
jhat, Shalom. How on earth did you manage to drag Socialism, and Nazism over from where they live to a place where you could call them 'on the right?' Perhaps I do not remember living through that period of time rightly, but I would have sworn, until you stated your 'truth,' that those ideals were left of left ideologies. Remember now, 'Right wing' = 'Less Government' control. 'Left wing' = 'Full Government' control.
For what it is worth, what you reference, is even beyond our American 'Left.' Call Socialism, and Nazism, 'Left of Left of Left,' if you will. Neither you nor anyone I know, qualifies to be called that.
With respect. Arley Steinhour
Guillermo - that's harsh dude. Not showin' allot of love there. I am upset as well about the jobs shipped overseas. Who would not be? I have argued all along that we should be working with Mexico and not China.
I don't mind regulation, but there is such a thing as over-regulation. For one example, a subject I am familiar with, trucking. Every state we go into, there is an entire trucking bureaucracy set up to regulate us. This takes lots of employees and facility cost. Each wants a piece of the trucking pie, but there is only so much pie. So, the states, all duplicating something over and over, cost the trucking industry billions, which is passed on to you.
Streamlining DOT would involve downsizing some government workers, and well...we just don't do that, do we? So, they continue to demand more pie.
Such is the way with Government. We are not in trouble today because of business. We are in trouble today because of a runaway Federal Government, which knows no end to the money it can spend. Already they have spent every single dime you and I have sent in for Social Security. AND yet we say, "go ahead,, blow a few more trillion, what the hell."
Thanks for reading. Your time and comments are ALWAYS appreciated, even if your wrong. Especially if you're wrong!
Guillermo,
I suggest you go back and read you Liberal Handbook. You're supposed to try to use liberal talking points to win an arguement FIRST....Then, when all else fails, go to personal attacks!! You, sir, have lost all credibility here!! Next time you read the handbook, don't start at the back of the book!
You owe Sam an apology for your blatant attack on him.
Let us know when you get an original thought!!
navyblue,
The entire point of my post was that the Right-Left political spectrum was inadequate to describe political beliefs. "'Right wing' = 'Less Government' control. 'Left wing' = 'Full Government' control" is an oversimplification of political ideologies.
There are many different ways to map out the political spectrum, but my point was that you need AT LEAST two axises (horizontal and vertical) to clearly demonstrate political beliefs. So it is not clear to just call something "left" or "right".
For instance, the modern "left" in the US is associated with the pursuit of individual liberties (think ACLU, abortion rights, marriage rights, civil rights, etc), which is also a hallmark of libertarianism. It is also associated with more government control over the economy, which is antithetical to libertarian beliefs.
The modern "right" in the US has become associated with government infringement on civil liberties (Patriot Act, warantless wiretaps, suspension of Habeas Corpus, etc), while also being associated with a reduction in government control over the economy.
This is why putting Nazism on OUR left-right political spectrum is difficult. Because they were socialists who favored government control of the economy (left), while ALSO being fascists who favored a reduction in civil liberties (right).
This chart gives kind of a good idea of what I'm talking about:
http://www.holisticpolitics.org/NewParty...
There are two axises, personal liberty and economic regulation have become hallmarks of the "left", while economic liberty and personal regulation have become hallmarks of the "right". Which is why it is so confusing to refer to an idea/person as left or right.
For example: You might call someone who supports gay rights a "leftist". But that person might ALSO support less government regulation of the economy, which would also make him a "rightist". This would be Libertarianism.
OR
Someone may support more economic control (left) while supporting a reduction in individual liberties (right). This position would probably be most like Nazism.
"If you are not a Liberal by the time you are 20, you have no compassion.
If you are not a Conservative by the time you are 30, you have no brain."
Winston Churchill
I admit, for the business boys to go to Washington to beg for money is sad indeed for American business.
Ah, the good ole days, when names like JC Penny, Henry Ford, and Woolworth, and Sears, and General Motors, and Texaco were proud names. Today, they are but whale dung.
Hey Guillermo, we're cool. I thought your argument was well thought out, well presented, and full of, well...humor I guess. It was wrong, but entertaining. Please keep reading, I am curious to get your thoughts on my right wing, religious fanatic, homophobic, anti-choice bloviations.
Guillermo Inglaterra,
As I mentioned in a previous post, the repeal of the Glass-Steagall act was supported by virtually all of the members of congress. Clinton might have signed off on it but it was literally pushed through by Phil Graham of Texas. In that post I did not mention that Phil was/is a Republican because it really doesn't matter what side of the aisle he is on as ALL of the politicians rolled over to support the repeal of this act. We know that the financial institutions, both lending and investment banks were behind this movement. The results of the repeal of this act are devastating...of course this is after these same financial institutions raked in hundreds of billions in profits only to now come begging to the taxpayers to bail them out. We cannot let Phil Graham off the hook so easily...remember his statement he made when acting as John McCain's economic advisor when he said "this is a mental recession and we are a nation of whiners". Damn difficult mental recession we find outselves in these days. Are there any little pills we can take that will magically solve this "mental recession?
As hard as it is for me to swallow this bailout I know we cannot let our system collapse but it will forever grate on me and I do want a pound of flesh from these bankers/crooks. I also want Glass-Steagall to be put back on the books.
Marcus....the problem with Winston Churchill's quote is that no one really knows what a conservative stands for now. Are we talking TRUE conservatism as it use to be representated by small government, states rights & INDIVIDUAL rights or are we talking about today's conservative/Republican party of big government, fiscal irresponsibility, federal power over states and increased encroachment on individual rights? I don't see a lot of difference between them and the Democrats.
One minute the conservative/Republican party will say they represent TRUE conservatism and the next minute they will do exactly the opposite as we have seen over the course of the last 29 years. At least with the Democrats you know what they stand for whether you agree with them or not.
kurt, it's not easy being a true conservative. for one, a woman would have to put her own comfort aside, and own up to her responsibility of a pregnancy that may be inconvenient. i wish the women of this country would stop killing their own children. we bought the lie that murder was ok in some instances, and now all sorts of things that used to be illegal are now legal. that still doesn't make them right. come quickly, Lord.
my ONLY comment on this thread: conservatives have not cornered the market on hypocrisy.
I believe that...somebody said it best: "The easiest way to avoid being a hypocrite is to not have any values whatsoever." I guess I'll never understand why people expect other people to be perfect, or in some circumstances, to attempt to devalue other people's comments by using values the devaluer doesn't hold. But enough of my musings.
jhat, you bring up an interesting point. I was kinda under an impression that two axes were used-hence liberal Republicans and the other way around. Of course, it's rather silly to use an organization, rather than ideals or positions, to describe political viewpoints. Your clarification on the matter is greatly appreciated.
As a side note, how many people posting on this site are from McCook or the surrounding area? (As in take residence in McCook, notsomuch were born in McCook.) It would seem kind of odd for random people on the internet to come to a small town newspaper blog to comment. Then again, stranger things do happen.
All part of the Global community...dude
bjo,
Yes, there are qualifications that use two axises. In addition to your example ("liberal republicans") we could list "libertarians", "social democrats", "christian republicans", etc.
I was more referring to people's apparent obsession with left and right. The usage of the terms "leftist" and "rightist". As well as the fact that it seems that there is such a clean split between the democrats and republicans (there seem to not be many liberal republicans or conservative democrats).
I have many libertarian friends who become frustrated when they are called "leftists" when they say that they support gay marriage rights and abortion rights. Even though their economic views are far to the "right" of the modern republican party.
