The Laughing Stock

It has been an interesting couple of days. I have been called the "laughing stock of the internet." Wow! Very nice. For some, it takes years of hard work to become THE laughing stock, and I accomplished this feat with a mere two blogs! Am I good, or what?

All kidding aside, those two blogs, and the responses to it, give us a very clear pattern of how the left operates in America nowadays.

The left monitors postings in public forums, like newspaper editorials, and blog postings. When certain words are used, like Intelligent Design, or Atheist, or homosexual, or gay marriage, or abortion, etc., these postings get flagged. Then, the left swings into action, like cockroaches from under the woodwork.

Using leftist websites and chat rooms, they do a super job of attacking. Some, with pre-arranged talking points, begin their attack on the "offender". Others will attack the "offender" personally, making fun of his/her "writing ability", or looks, or in my case, my goofy cowboy hat. (hey, I own a mirror, you don't have to tell me I am goofy looking)

Others will contact the newspaper itself, and claiming offense, they will demand that the "offender" be taken off the site. Nice folks, huh?

Barrack Obama and his minions, used this strategy well when Mr. Obama began his climb up the ladder of Chicago thug politics. Opponents found that sealed divorce records were suddenly made public, ask Jack Ryan about this. Other opponents found their families fodder for the leftist attack machine, ask Sarah Palin about this. The left sent a gaggle of lawyer dogs and media hounds to Alaska to find anything they could to destroy her. They went after her family, her daughter, her sister, her husband, whatever it took...to destroy her.

There are other examples, Trent Lott, George Allen, and of course, Joe the Plumber. Poor Joe had the unmitigated gall to ask Mr. Obama a tough direct question, and he would have to pay for this. Within minutes, government employees, using government computers went after Joe. They finally uncovered the dirt they wanted, Joe owed two thousand dollars in taxes. Then Joe Biden goes on TV and says that Joe the Plumber was "unpatriotic" for having this unpaid tax bill. (funny how the new Treasury Secretary nominee was not unpatriotic for having tens of thousands of dollars in unpaid taxes huh?)

The left is not interested in debate, the seek to silence the opposition. Many of the comments posted on my two "offending" blogs were not from people around here, they were from leftist activists in Denver, or San Fransisco, or other liberal bastions. They try and convince the locals that their radical views are much more popular than they really are. These radical seething leftists are really a small minority, but they are vocal, like a bull horn is vocal, and organized, and they seek to intimidate the locals into silence.

You leftists may find this funny, but I pray for Barrack Obama. The Bible you hate so much, tells me too, so I do. HOWEVER, I will exercise my right to be vocal in my dissent, and to fight for policies and government actions I believe in.

Fellow Christians and Conservatives, we cannot let these leftists intimidate us into silence, if we do, they will win, and America will lose, our children will lose.

We have many wonderful folks who are regulars on our blogs, and let us debate, fiercely, the issues that matter. Let us argue, always keeping in mind, that spirited debate often leads to marvelous, God given solutions to tough problems.

Right on, Sam!! I was very amused by the commielibs who decided they knew all the answers to the Bible, Creationism, Etc. You'll probably find these same misguided lefties at the local Starbucks paying $8.00 for a 6 oz. cup of the flavor of the month coffee, while chowing down on Ben & Jerry's ice cream. Being a Christian, I have also been the butt of a few jokes and outright disrespectful comments. Keep up the good work, Sam!! You know you can always count on my support.

Educated people complain about you creationist hicks only because you want to dumb down science education. If you retards kept your childish belief in magic in your Sunday schools there would be no problem. Biology teachers don't tell preachers how to do their jobs. You pathetic morons have a lot of nerve to tell biology teachers how to do their jobs.

When Christian hicks tried to force biology teachers in Dover Pennsylvania to read a statement about intelligent design supernatural magic to their students, every single teacher refused to cooperate. One teacher quit his job. There was a trial which cost the taxpayers of Dover one million dollars. Angry taxpayers voted to kick the Christian hicks out of the school board.

marcus, go back to one of Sam's previous articles. I give several definitions of what a scientific theory is. The short definition is a theory is the highest level of understanding in science. That's why biologists and other educated people would never say evolution is "only" a theory.

I suggest, instead of proving your ignorance, why don't you shut up about what you know nothing about. Study evolutionary biology for several years like I have, then you can talk about it.

Or you can continue to make ignorant claims about science if you don't mind being laughed at.

I read the insane gibberish in your worthless Bible. It's not a science textbook. Only idiots believe in it.

You know what it means when more than one species has the same Endogenous RetroViruses (ERVs) in the exact same location in their DNA? ERVs are inherited so the only possible explanation for the same ERVs in the exact same location in the genome of more than one species is those species share a common ancestor who had this ERV inserted into its DNA. People and chimps have several of these ERVs in the same locations. The idea that people and chimps share an ancestor is a bloody fact. It's the strongest fact of science.

I repeat what I said before: Educate yourself. Until you understand evolution, you should just shut up about it. You might think your total ignorance of science is equal to the knowledge of the entire scientific community, but of course that's not true.

Shut up until you know what you're talking about it. If you can't do that, then don't be too offended when educated people point at you and laugh.

Marcus, it's obvious that you haven't taken the time to understand science. Before making such a statement that evolution is only a theory and has yet to be proven as fact, you should know the following. A theory is not a guess or hunch. They are well substantiated, supported, and documented explanations of our observations. It's also a misconception that a proven theory becomes a law. A theory never becomes a law. Never. Laws describe things and theories explain them. Gravity is called a theory, but it's not just a guess. It can be tested and predicted. We can observe it, and because it's real doesn't mean that the explanation is a law. Evolution is a theory and it's also a fact. Facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Evolution is a fact because of replication, variation, and selection being observable and undeniable. In science things don't get proven, they get supported. There are tons of supporting observations of evolution documented over the years that make it a fact. You need to know the definition of Facts, Laws, Theories and how they are applied. Like [bobyyyy] said, you also need to understand evolution based on those definitions.

Keep up the good work, Sam! Pay no attention to bobyyyy. He (she?) is exactly what you described; a troll that gets Google alerts for intelligent design and then spreads his keyboard diarrhea all over the comments sections. (I get the same alerts). I've seen his comments on many blogs. He is a bitter, hateful person that has taken on the responsibility to demean anyone that supports intelligent design. Ironically, Obama said WE are the bitter ones.

Bobyyy and his ilk are frustrated that only 15% of Americans agree with them regarding evolution (per Gallup polls). They are losing the battle. They more science learns about cells and the complex systems both within them and that they comprise, the more silly evolution sounds. I don't know how anyone can watch this video from Harvard and not clearly recognize design:

I am surprised that he actually brought up a science fact this time. He was wrong in his interpretation, of course. I'm not sure what bobyyyy's motives are -- maybe just to feel better about himself by tearing down others? Mine is clear and unapologetic. I want to remove any barriers someone might have to hearing the Good News of Jesus Christ. I was duped into believing evolution for many years and it kept be from Christ. When I actually started studying evolution more in depth, I realized it falls apart at the details level.

The key to evolution is increasing information in the genes. Test all evolution claims by that standard. They often give examples of genetics (reshuffling or transferring information) and, without supporting evidence, extrapolate that into Darwinian evolution (massive increase of information and complex systems). It's bait and switch. Don't fall for it. In all of the experiments done on bacteria and fruit flies, they are still just bacteria and fruit flies. They may change some by losing or transferring genes, but never increasing information. Not even Richard Dawkins knows of a beneficial mutation. Bobbyyy cannot dispute that.

I won't be posting again; I have a life outside of the computer. I just wanted to check in with a home state paper and let you know you're doing a great job. Hold bobyyyy's (and other evo's) feet to the fire. Ask him for evidence of increasing genetic information. He can't. Doesn't exist. The facts are on our side. All they have in their arsenal are ad hominem attacks and smoke & mirrors.

Hey bobyyy - I sure sense allot of anger in your comments. I too, use to be angry, full of bitterness and resentment. I blamed God for some of my misfortunes, and blamed Him again when I did not get what I wanted. The thing that is so wonderful about God, is that he still cares about you bob. If it were just me, a mere man, I'd encourage you to go onto hell, good riddance, but God is not like that.

It has got to be real tough, to live in a constant state of hate, consumed to try and destroy and deny what you know to be true. So, in that sense, I really feel sorry for you. Going through life, never experiencing love or kindness or peace. God still cares about you bob, and is there for you when and if you decide that a life of hate, is no life at all.

G5 - what change? The new cabinet is going to be stacked with Clintonistas! What is going to be funny to watch is how Obama struggles with the crazies in his own party. Now the propaganda media will portray this as "Obama moving to the center."

Another guy made the point that we have never read any of Dawkins books. I've never read any Satan worshipping books either, why should I?

I have maintained, and believe I am correct to say, that it takes more "Faith" to believe the evolutionary hoax, than it does to believe in a Creator.

IA Husker made the point that only 15% of the population really believes evolution, and fewer than that are true so-called atheists. Most of these are homosexuals who cannot get over the fact that Americans really don't care about homosexuals, don't want them around, think they are perverted, and certainly do not want them to be given "special rights."

I would not be surprised if Obama appoints a homosexual to the Supreme Court, and even if he does not, the new Marxist Supreme Court may take steps to declare that the Bible is "hate speech." AND, then my friend, I think we may actually have a war on our hands. Obama will certainly have homosexuals in the Cabinet because he has to pay off for the millions of dollars he received from the homosexual lobby.

The God-haters, (trolls) also want to lower the age of sexual consent for children, so that homosexuals can molest boys younger and younger, without parents being able to stop them. And look up ad hominem; it only applies if someone actually has a valid argument to be answered. Screeds about the great Liberal-Homosexual Conspiracy to Lower the Age of Sexual Consent so the Perverted Homosexuals Can Legally Have Sex with Young Boys are simply the product of a disordered mind.

I completely agree with the idea that no man, woman, or child should be intimidated into silence. I was raised a christian, and i should be able to express that point of view if I feel strongly about it. I also believe that the Athiest should do the same. I may not agree, but I will respect thier freedom to express thier point of view.

Every political race that I can remember following seems to stray from the issues that are important, and become a mudd slinging contest. I watch in disbelief as these so-called model-Americans dig through the family and friends of thier opposition, sometimes destroying thier lives in the process. I think maybe they sling the mud just to distract the voters, possibly becuase they have no idea what they are talking about, or maybe they just want the voters to focus on the mud and forget about the issues all together. Either way, it does keep the mudslinger from having to engage in a head to head battle of the minds about the issue at hand. Why dont they just admit that they dont know it all, and move on to the next issue.

I have seen the term "educated" used in several blogs, and several comments, and I feel the need to respond to this. I do not understand, nor am I educated all of the theories or fact concerning evolution. I do not understand all that I have read in the bible. I hold certification in 3 different disciplines of engineering. I am educated, however, I only had to take biology 1. Biology was not a science that I thought was important in my chosen field, although it is fascinating. The school I attended only required me to take bio-1, they extorted the rest of my money in other classes(sorry, that slipped). The point I am making is that just because somebody is not familiar with a particular point of view does not mean they are uneducated. I will claim "ignorant". I think the term "educated" is an elitist term and I hear it alot among corporate senior management types, and I prefer not to use it.

I'm wondering if Sam can show anyone the deed to this country he claims is "ours". It would probably be mildly interesting to know just who all is included in this "our".

Almost as entertaining as someone making the assertion that a group of people who disbelieve in the existence of an entity "hate" that entity.The "hate accusation has become the wingnuts conversation stifler of choice, and as in this case, is usually first introduced to the conversation by some wingnut or the other. My speculation is that this is so because of their long and intimate familiarity with the emotion.It's a natural outgrowth of the black or white- this or the other, fur us or agin us binary thinking that typifies the residents of lower wingnutistan.

Oh and Sam don't go all letting your glutes get higher than your face I can assure you there are lots of others out there that are at least as large a laugingstock as you and got there almost as quickly.

First, let me just say: I'm so sorry I hurt you. I know you're a man whose feelings (and more!) burn hot, but I was hoping you'd be able to move on. I realize it was my choice to let you go, but still, we had something really special once. It hurts me so to see you hurting like this.

I know you think that what we had was a once-in-a-lifetime thing, but I want you to know something: It's a big world out there. Lots of meat in the ol' feedlot. There'll be another man. You just need to tamp down that anger and give yourself a chance at happiness.

Don't think about the way it all ended. Think about the good times we had after you drove that big truck out all the way to see me in Marin County! That night salsa-dancing in the Castro District -- every guy in the place had his eye on you. But you were mine. All mine.

I'll never forget the day you told me we were soulmates. I've still got the fuzzy pink blanket we curled up under while we watched Ellen and shared a bottle of Napa Valley's best cabernet. It wasn't meant to be, but I guess what I'm trying to say is don't be so angry and scared. Let the joy into your life, and more will follow.

Sam, I must mention that I find the comments to your last few blogs very amusing. Just imagine the shaky worldview some people must have if they spend their time searching frantically online for a creationist view they can bash! :-)

That said, I would like to point out that I read the McCook Gazette because I grew up in the area. Obviously, some of those replying to your blog have lived far too long in the pollution of large cities and have, therefore, completely lost any connection with reality.

I must say that I have read through this blog and these comments and have found it all very entertaining and amusing. I am not a blogger, but after reading the views and opinions of some, I found myslef compelled to post my own cooments.

I have to agree with a lot of bob's views and disagree with the opinions of sam, but neither had to be so abrasive. That is the problem with this on-going creation vs evolution battle. I happen to be a scientist myself and find myself very disgusted by the fact that both parties have drawn a line a clear line and would rather speak words of hate and slander each other than to respect each other's views.

I happen to believe that evolution is a theory that has been proven. The definition of evolution is change over time. We have confirmed through fossil records that many species on the planet have in fact changed over time. Man has changed. We have proven that man is taller than pre-historic times. Fossil records show that the horse acutally had 2 toes and now is has a split hoof. There is no disputing, evolution has occurred. Now when we start talking about a fish that grew lungs and legs and is now the man that we have roaming on this planet today...there is a lot of factual evidence still needed.

The point I am trying to make is that instead of standing on the opposite sides of the fence and chuck rocks at each other, maybe we should both take 2 steps forward and shake hands. From a scientist point of view, evolution is a very complex process. From the creationist side, we should take our fingers out of our ears and become a little more open minded. I believe that maybe all of this has been guided by the hand of God. Maybe God thought there were some changes needed in some of the organisms that he created and just changed the mold over time. God might have founded what worked through Natural Selection.

We have to have Faith in the Bible and facts in our science books.

Sam, you say your are Christian man, but as a man of God, don't you "love thy neighbor"? Don't you feel that only God has the right to judge homosexuals. You can believe that they are wrong, but it is wrong for you to be so judgemental and discriminate against them. It is wrong for you to make slandering comments on the internet. I have to laugh sometimes becuase you can have a gay man who is a good person and as a society, we are actually harder on them than a person that has been convicted of a crime and released from jail or an addict, drug dealer, ect. What they do in their home has no direct affect to anyone else. We need to embrace people of different beliefs, not hate them. Isn't that what the Bible teaches us?

I know I am covering a wide array of veiws here, but the last one that I would like to address is the slander that I have read and the negative views that are being portrayed by the NOW 44th president of the United States. Obama could and I think will become one the best presidents this country has ever seen. He has been elected by the MAJORITY vote of the citizens of this great country. Democracy has once again prevailed. I think why people attack him so much is because of the fact the he is HALF African American and that he has in the past had ties with a Muslim background. The fact of the matter is that Obama happens to be HALF white and IS a Christian man. Maybe he is finally the balance that this country has needed. To the Christian Conservatives: Please give him a chance. This man has a lot of feats to overcome and support is what he needs. Not opposition. We are all in this together.

The one thing that I have found about Western Nebraska is that people ARE NOT open-minded, change is not supported, and discrimination is still very prominant. That is probably a lot of the reason that these small towns are dwindling, we are losing our businesses and manufacturing jobs and our small schools are closing. Folks, WE ARE LOSING THE BATTLE. We must embrace change, we must be open to views that are different from our own and we support our leaders. God bless us all...we are ALL in need!

I like your post nationofchange, except for the last paragraph. Are you not lumping EVERYONE into a group that you believe to be closed minded? I am assuming (and I know that is a bad thing) that you have not had dealings with a majority of western Nebraskans but formed your opinion based on contacts with just a few individuals.

This will be my last post on this subject then I will wait for a new one that piques my interest. I have enjoyed reading most of the posts, pro and con. I must be a rare sort according to all your posts - I am a Christian who believes in evolution. Maybe a good term to describe me would be "creavolutionist"; I believe in evolution but also believe that it is God driven. To those of you who dont believe, that is your perogative. Your argument fails when you belittle the beliefs of Christians; you can no more prove there is no God than we can prove there is. It is a matter of faith and for Christians, that is enough.

Quite honestly, I have done "soul searching", I guess I try and do it often. I want to make sure I don't get crazy in the rhetoric and hype.

I know I can be bombastic, and ignorant at times, I'm human, but what I am glad for is the debate we have, some serious, some ridiculous.

I do call myself a Christian, and I have broken all the Commandments, or wanted to, and it is the same thing.

The Apostle Paul said he was the worst sinner to have ever lived. Lord only knows where I fit in.

Right or wrong is right or wrong, not because I posses some magic to do everything right. We debate what is right or wrong, so we may govern rightly. It is not hate, nor unforgiving, nor malice that compels my argument.

The left sets up this straw dog, that if you proclaim family values, well then, you'd had better not break any of those values. That is an impossible task, you see, we all screw up. Still, we have the duty, whether we have screwed up or not, to proclaim family values.

nationofchange, what you do in your own home is affecting us.Whose children(sons primarily) are you doing what it is your doing with? This is not a lifestyle that is emulated in most American households. The family that honors God displays His principles, does not condone perversion, or hatred. Christ said love our enemies and pray for those who despitefully use you. That doesn't mean backing down on our beliefs and keeping quiet because we might offend someone. You think and say anything you want, no matter how false. That is offensive to me, should you be silenced? You are here, so you don't mind being challenged and neither do I. It's all part of the human experience. You may not be damned as long as you are willing to have meaningful conversation that is based on actual evidence, and can accept it.
