When Giving Becomes EvilPosted Thursday, August 13, 2009, at 10:54 AM
A lot of people in this country hate George Soros. That's a given. But the reasons for the hate fall short and usually come back to the fact that he supposedly spent a large amount of his wealth trying to defeat George W. Bush in the 2004 election. Other reasons for the hatred is because he has openly questioned the market system and has said that globalization is causing many of the problems we see around the world.
But a deeper look into the man show someone who at his core is a philanthropist. He has been giving large chunks of his fortune away to help people in need. Maybe that's where the seed of hate has grown. Somehow, in this country, it is now seen as evil for someone with money to give it to those that truly need help. I couldn't begin to tell you why this has happened but, unfortunately, it has. The latest evil act that George Soros has committed is giving $35 million the state of New York to go to needy children. The New York government matched him 4 to 1 which means the money going towards children is $200 million, which means in real money children in need will get $200 for school. Why did he decide to step in now? In an interview with NPR, found here http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story... he said "Because we are in a particularly difficult period with a very severe recession," he says. "Philanthropy has been badly hit by the financial crisis and so the usual donors actually are cutting back. I feel that people who can afford it should step up to the plate and actually increase their philanthropic donations." Some may ask why he gives so much money and he answered that in the interview as well when he recounted a story of when he was attending the London School of Economics. "Soros also was the recipient of aid when he was a student at the London School of Economics. To make ends meet, he worked at night as a waiter. But when his tutor found out about it, she submitted his name to the Quakers, he says, and he subsequently received a check for 40 pounds. "And it touched me, I must say; I felt then that this is a very nice way to help people," Soros says. "And so it gives me personal satisfaction to be able to do it on a much larger scale."" But with the announcement of his gift to the state to help children in need certain groups have come out with extreme hate to him, accusing him of everything from trying to buy votes to giving those in need an excuse to not try to get themselves out of need. But the true crux of the hatred thrown at George Soros is really simple. He's a liberal. If it had been Newt Gingrich, Rush Limbaugh, or Bill O'Reilly this wouldn't have even been a story. Because a liberal dare give money to those in need it has somehow been turned into an evil deed. Which leads to another point, 10 years ago the word liberalism had a very nasty tag to it, so much in fact, that it was called the L word. Today, however, simply calling someone a liberal doesn't have the same negative connotation. So groups have started calling liberals, socialists. But they don't really understand what socialism is. We have all heard the interchangeable terms communism and socialism. No matter what you say to some these two terms are the same. They are not. Socialism is a market term whereas communism is a political and governmental term. The confusion is so deep that a woman at a town hall meeting stated that she didn't want America becoming a socialist country like Russia. Her history is a bit off as Russia is not socialist. Any shade of socialism that the country once had dissolved in the early 90s when the Soviet Union collapsed. Call me liberal, call me socialist, but I am not evil. I am an AMERICAN and damn proud of it. All I want and hope for is that every AMERICAN can share in the dream, whether they be rich or poor, black, white, or brown, whether they are a man or a woman, old or young. We all deserve to have the dream. Some of us, to no fault of our own, are in positions where that dream seems just a fantasy. They need our help and sympathy, not our hatred and scorn. Granted, their are those that abuse the system, it's a fact of human nature. But when are we going to stop punishing the many because of the foils of the few? What George Soros has done is not evil or "magic" it's the act of a philanthropist who saw those in need and decided to help. I've already answered you proudconservative, if you choose to ignore it, that's not my issue.
Sceptre, I wonder if when you walk down the street you mutter to yourself, "an army of lawyers". Because on this site you mention it every time you post.
I think it's interesting if I use the words birthers somehow I'm evil and wrong. If Sceptre, Mr. Eldridge, Justin, et al use words like idiots, child molesters, un-American, anti-American, moron, etc etc it's all good. Just wanted to clarify that.
Let's see using a phrase such as "put your foots on their throats and keep pushing down" is acceptable, but using the phrase "Kill them with kindness" (which is a phrase seemingly as old as time) is unacceptable. Somehow describing the violence is good to go, but using a metaphor is over the line for you Justin. But then I forget, you and Sceptre and others picture yourselves in some kind of real war against people like me so it's all acceptable.
you guys should know by now, if you make any analogies having to violence Mike will use it against you so he can have a presonal triumph. Nevermind the fact that if you say anything deragatory about our president he'll call you a racist.
The things they say about Bush are vile. If Bush were a black man, we would have had the biggest civil uprising since the 60's. But now that there IS a black man in office, we can no longer disparrage him, no matter how much he demonizes businesses, attacks white cops, and generally sticks his nose where it doesn't belong. Welcome to the new United States of Affirmative Action.
sceptre, you know i am conservative. i agree that obama is a liar; i also believe all politicians are liars; i think any of them will say anything to get elected and re-elected and re-elected. why should obama produce any documents when, by not releasing them, he can relegate you and the lunatic fringe to irrelevance. i would implore you and other thinking conservatives to drop the matter because it does NOT make any difference.
I thought Mike could discern figurative speech from literal speech, I was wrong and I apologize for it. I do not wish any physical harm to Mike nor will I condone any. I want to make that clear.
That being said, I will let Mike suck the oxygen out of his own room with his own lies and disinformation.
And thank you Sceptre.
distasteful as it is, i will have to agree with mike on ONE point. the ranting and raving about obamas birth certificate is absolutely asinine. all you "birthers" are doing is providing the left with more ammunition to fire at YOU! GIVE IT A REST!!!
I saw that Steffanie... Its amazing how he replied to everyone else but conveniently skipped over my question. Guess he doesn't want to actually debate something that requires rational thought.
Here's another one... Nancy Pelosi stated that "She was a fan of disrupters." in 2006 when she supported them in her effort to defund the War in Iraq. Now in 2009 when she is fighting to take over the healthcare industry she is saying that it is un-American to disrupt and "An ugly campaign is underway not mearly misrepresent the Health Insurance Reform Legislation, but to Disrupt Civil Dialogue"
See the whole video and statements here: http://www.breitbart.tv/06-flashback-pel...
wallismarsh,
It won't matter to a brainwashed liberal what you saw with your own eyes. If the poor planning wasn't Bush's fault, the levies breaking were, if that wan't his fault, the hurricane itself was his fault. They've all watched "The Day After Tomoorow" so they all know that Bush created the cat 5 hurricane because he wasn't a tree humper and he was an oil man.
Sound logic matters none. Blaming Bush is what matters. It's a wierd surreal world, but you have to accept that this is what we have to deal with in the 21st century....brainwashed deciples of socialism and perpetuators of doom and gloom.
What did I just read the other day? A Global Hoax panel says we only have 4 months to act or we're all dead. Unbelievable.
Then I read that a senator says he can FEEL global warming when he flies. WOW. Can we just go ahead and fire that moron right now. This is what we put in DC? The dumbest of dumb? Enough is enough.
Yeah, I can feel global warming too. It's called a potential national crop disaster that many crop may not make it to harvest because of the record cool summer and lack of heat units. Yes I am an agronomist so I think I can make that arguement all by myslef without the help of my right wing conspiritors. Without heat and carbon dioxide ther is no food for you liberals to eat. You may have forgotten where your food comes from but I have not.
I have myself only seen a few glimpses of summer this year. We get a week of hot weather in between two weeks of unseasonably cool weather. It was the middle fo May this year before we had leaves on our tree and the drought is basically a thing of the past as it has rained more frequently than I can remember.
So, Mike and others, don't piss down my back and tell me it's raining. All the anecdotal evidence you and Al Gore run around with throwing in people's faces doesn't stack up to a pile a crap when you look outside in July and see people with coats on in the middle of the day...in NE. Or, see it dip down into the 40's at night regularly. Or see the rain come back so frequently that the pastures have never been greener so long into the summer.
Then, very expectedly, now that the Earth is cooling again we see these dealines pop up into the healines like never before. "We only have months th act!" That is a signal for we only have a matter of time before the regular Joe finds out we're all washed up and we loose the fear factor. You people make me sick.
Couldn't edit my last post. But the question for the first question is explain what should have been done. People have called me a liar about the military trucks but I wrote about in the Mccook gazette as it was happening in a letter to the editor.
If you will remember a lot of people thought the feds were overreacting by requiring the mandatory evac. BTW all of my people packed there cars and fled to safety two days before the Hurricane hit. There were also have full busses leaving as people didn't want to leave. Any another BTW if the levy hadn't broke nothing would have happened.
Another question. Could you give me another example of a Natural disaster of this magnitude so we see what a good response was? I can't think of another example. You had the earthquake in SF and the resulting fire burned the city.
Mina,
Two questions.
I own an oilfield in St. Charles Parish.
I personally witnessed 100's of military trucks heading to NO before the levies broke. I don't see how anyone can blame anybody when an entire city floods after a natural disaster. If there is blame it should be for all the people that stayed in the fishbowl in the face of a cat 5 hurricane. But people forget that Blanco and Nagin were not asking for help either because they didn't want to lose control.
Question 2:
The banker pays $35 dollars income tax on that $100. The teacher pays $15.
How is that fair?
Let's suppose that banker decides to get a second job making minimum wage along with teacher. Lets suppose that banker and teacher both gross $1200 a month at partime job along with an 18 year old high school dropout. After taxes the following is take home:
Assume the job is Taco Bell night shift.
Banker - $780
Teacher - $1020
Dropout - $1200
I would bet the banker would be the leader of the group. The teacher would be the enabler of the dropout (covering for him) and the dropout would not care. Yet with our current tax system the dropout takes home more at this job than the teacher and banker.
That is our current system. Please explain how it is fair.
Oh so now your advocating killing Mike? I've never been threatened like that. I;m not sure if we should turn you into the authorities or what.
You really are a piece work nowadays Mike. One guy uses a metaphor and you take that the wrong way intentionally because I know you can't be that stupid. Anyway, you take it the wrong way on purpose just so you can say that your opponents have nothing to say and can only resort to threats and violence against you.
How pathetic is that?
I don't anything that is said here 95% of the time is hatred and violent. You just take it that way as part of your whinniness. I'll tell you why people get so steamed here in the first place. You are living on the planet Stickittotheworkingman and your writings are full of half truths and all out propaganda lies. We're tired of you pissing down our backs and trying to tell us it's raining.
Keep up the good fight Mina. Don't be swayed by the bullying and threats by the other side. You have the truth on your side. Don't be swayed into dropping to their level of hatred and threatening. Use your mind and logic to confront their constant usage of calling our side un-American for having the gall to disagree with them.
Something I was taught growing up to keep in mind for the people that threaten you the most in life, "Kill them with kindness".
Joy now Chunky is advocating for choking Liberals. How great is that? Can't you guys ever argue without issuing threats of bodily harm?
Sceptre, talk about beating a horse to death with the is he/isn't he a citizen.
Give it up already. Do you honestly believe that if the man were not an American citizen he would have even been allowed to run for the highest office in the land?
You remind me of a neighbor that is convinced that after she bought her home from a realtor and realized that the house was a lemon, that this realtor somehow bought off all the lawyers and television companies in the state and the city government (her words) to keep her from suing said realtor. I couldn't make that up it I tried.
This case has been brought before judges of all stripes and they have all dismissed the cases. It was brought to the Supreme Court twice and they refused to hear it.
You go after Mina for quoting from leftists sites and listening to testimonials, are you not doing the same on the other side. I remember you fully believing that Kenyan birth certificate fraud, even after it had been completely debunked as a rudimentary copy of an Australian birth certificate. Even the website that released it later said it was fake.
Septre,
I'm a little sceptical over the doubt of his citizenship. I have a hard time believing that if he were not legit, he could become president. Like him or not, it would be a pretty daunting task to cover something like that up unless you were a billionare with a lot of connections and many people in high places on your payroll.
Even then, as serious as our presidency is, it would be nearly impossible.
I think a lot of you are just trying to defeat his ideolog rule with this method and it's not going to work. That ship has sailed. If you can't take him to task on his irresponsible spending, taking over private industry, lying about taxes, trying to socialize this country to the favor of it's monorities at the mjority's expense and suffereing then you've got nothing to go on.
There are plenty of things he's doing not in our best interest, only in the interest of political grandstanding and further proving he's not the right man for the job with all his gaffs and foot-in-mouth episodes.
Why can't you just let it be and focus your steam on the issues that are facing us all right now? You're beating a horse so f'n dead it wreaks!
Oh, Mina must have selective amnesia when it comes to all her financial prowless. She never hit the nail on the head of the financial crisis that revolves around Freedie and Fannie and how high risk loans were pushed out the door at the request from congress while the CEO's and good friends of congress loaded their pockets. But alas, we find out from the all impressive and all knowing Mina that in fact it was GW BUSH's fault. I should have guessed.
First off, why can't we just give and not be judged on it. Yes, some of George Soro's money was illegally made, and probably given away for political points, but he gave. There should never be a tax formula for charitable contributions to make giving fair for everyone. If anything, it should be a 100% deduction.
Keep up the great work Sam, Justin76, proudconservative, and Steffanie. Never, ever let the liberals lie, put your foots on their throats and keep pushing down.
Well Proud, you know what they say about he who argues with the fool....
Mike has obviously taught himself that there is a huge difference and there is no one among that is going to be able to tell him any different.
It's probably jst another plan by the liberal yeahoos to brainwash stupid people to strengthen their numbers for the next election cycle.
After Nancy Pelosi was caught celebrating people shouting their oppositions to government she was also opposing, she is now calling the very some like mided people Nazis and anti-American dupes.
I watched her on YouTube. These people were steaming mad and shouting, interrupting her constantly. She was applauding them non-stop for being so true American, and standing up for what they believe in. The only trouble is that they were all on the same side of the issue. Now that people all over the country are pissed and letting their elected crooks know it, now we're all a buch of Nazis carrying swastikas. What a bitch.
The only dupes here are the ones that can't see through all this politcal grandstanding and the double standard we now have.
The liberal foot soldiers are championing people that do not want the same things as they do, yet they believe the rhetoric. These politicians want to rule us. It is now government for the people, not government by the people.
Minority group are nothing but political commodities going to the highest bidder ( in terms of what will be promised to them, but never delivered), then the groups are hung out to dry and then the blame game is started as to who left them there to dry out.
You're also right about Mike, why is he so ready to hand his medical records over to some fat cat hooker addict senator on a commitee, but yet he was enraged that BUSH himself was listening to our phone calls. you liberals gotta get your SH%$ straight, you know that!?
I watched some YouTubes of Reagan today and it was amazing to watch. That man knew what it is to be an American and a reponsible citizen. We can all have different opinions on how things should be done. But this sudden left turn into socialism is giving most of us whiplash and it stings.
His words about how government should never be a solution to our problems is so true, because he understood the human mind. He knew that obscene government powers would only lead to corruption and dispair. I believe we are already suffering because we let the "feral" government get too damn greedy and big, now we can't stop them no matter what, because they are already too big and powerful.
Nazis wanted government controlled health care in Germany and I wonder why. What better way to take control over a group of people when you can eventually limit who gets treaments, how much they get, and when. You could also control race poulations with this kind of power.
We're supposed to sit here and believe that Obama and congree know so much more about how to take care of ourselves than we do? Come on!
How about our obesity problem, now some crooks think we should start taxing fatty foods to solve the problem. Well, maybe we should appoint a Surgeon General that doesn't weight 350 lbs.
Just like cap and trade, it doesn't solve any problems, it only give the feds more power. We should be free to make our own decisions and create our own clean energy, so that whoever is the smartest guy to figure it out can make the money, not the feds as they'll just squander it through their typical bureaucracy.
I could go on all night. The feds are going way to far and the time to stop them and give power back to the states and the people is NOW!
I am surprised that none of you took Mike up on his blatant disregard for the English language.
Socialism is in fact a key aspect of Communism. Socialism defined by Merriam-Webster... 1 : any of various economic and political theories advocating collective or governmental ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods 2 a : a system of society or group living in which there is no private property b : a system or condition of society in which the means of production are owned and controlled by the state 3 : a stage of society in Marxist theory transitional between capitalism and communism and distinguished by unequal distribution of goods and pay according to work done (http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/socialism)
Communism: 1 a : a theory advocating elimination of private property b : a system in which goods are owned in common and are available to all as needed 2 capitalized a : a doctrine based on revolutionary Marxian socialism and Marxism-Leninism that was the official ideology of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics b : a totalitarian system of government in which a single authoritarian party controls state-owned means of production c : a final stage of society in Marxist theory in which the state has withered away and economic goods are distributed equitably (http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/communism)
Hmm... they look pretty similar to me. I guess Mike was right, they are spelled differently.
Here is something I have started to wonder about... Mike, how come you are so willing to rally for this socialized medicine while having to give your private bank account information, private health information, your ability to determine what happens to your own body... An obvious overstep to the Constitutional Powers granted to the Federal government by the States to anyone other than Liberals and Socialists, but yet you were so fast to decry Bush saying that he was listening to the phone calls of private US citizens?
You're right Mina, you're no genius. Do you think politics have changed one damn it just because Obama told it has since he was elected? Do we need to compile the list of inexperienced Czars and Diplomats this man has appointed that were nothing more than big money boosters during his compaign.
I'm not here to tell that Bush isn't the bad president you think that he is. You just don't know enough about our history to know that there are far worse. I'm also here to tell you that you are a fool to get wrapped up in Obama's rhetoric that is obviously blinging you people to the fact that he is nothing more than a crooked politician from the cess pool of Chicago politics and NOTHING has changed in DC, maybe just gotten worse.
Mina,
Welcome to the battle...
Glad to hear you won't be visiting...keep it in California please.
Please show me the verse in the Bible where it refers to taking from others as Holy. That is the whole point of this debate.
Conservatives give much more than liberals in donations - fact. The difference is that liberals think they know better how to give our money away. Which in turn creates special interest groups, which raises money, which creates laziness, which creates more special interest...and it just continues into a cycle. Pretty soon, we will all be part of a group that is "owed" something by the government, and no one will be working. Really, what is my incentive to find a good job, when I can live off of those that are working?
As far as Bush's hiring of Michael Brown, I will concede that wasn't a good choice. Having said that, Katrina wasn't going to be fixed by any one man...it was a catastrophic event that exposed a city that was poorly designed and built below sea level. Brown couldn't save New Orleans from an act of God...hmmmm go figure. If only Pelosi would have been in charge.
One other point...
I believe it's hypocritical to criticize Bush's appointment of the head of FEMA, when the man you support was a "Community Organizer" before taking over as the leader of the country.
Steffanie:
I just want to say that your mother should have told you when you were little that it isn't nice to call names. I haven't called you any names, but you insist on being mean and rude. So after this post, I'm outa here. And you are not a very good representative of Nebraska. If people in Nebraska are as rude as you, I never want to visit there.
My second point is: Why don't you read?!?!!? There are different models of charitable giving all over the world! How is asking for an equitable tax law across the board, regardless of income, "redistribution of wealth"?!?! Don't put words in my mouth.
If the bank gives more only because he gets a bigger tax break, then he is morally disgusting and that's exactly what's happening to our country: we have a weakening culture due to moral decrepitude. Charity existed long before the tax code and if you somehow claim that charity is dependent on the tax code, you're sadly mistaken. If charity in this nation--one of the wealthiest on th globe--declines because of a smaller tax benefit, then this nation has truly become a cesspool of selfish and morally corrupt individuals.
Instead of trying to get special perks out of our tax system we should be designing a system that's fair so that we can all equally support it as one nation!
Justin76:
You really want to know what Bush could have done better about Katrina? Here's a perfect example of why Bush was a horrible president:
The guy who was RUNNING FEMA WHEN KATRINA STRUCK HAD NO EXPERIENCE IN EMBERGENCY MANAGEMENT!!!
MICHAEL D. BROWN WORKED AS A COMMISSIONER AT THE INTERNATIONAL ARABIAN HORSE ASSOCIATION BEFORE JOINING FEMA!!! Let me repeat: Brown made his living raising money for a horse association.
Now, I'm not a genius, but even I know you don't hire a guy whose only work experience is managing an Arabian Horse association for super wealthy people to LEAD THE NATIONAL AGENCY RESPONSIBLE FOR RESPONDING TO CATASTROPHIC NATIONAL EMERGENCIES.
I mean, come on!!! Could anyone think Bush was a good leader after hearing that???
That's like you have a toothache, but instead of going to the dentist, you go to the local coffee house and ask the waitress to pull out your tooth, lol. I bet if you did that, there would be a big, painful mess
---which is exactly what happened with Katrina!
Mina, you need to see an accountant. You're numbers are far too simplistic. You don't jsut shave off your tax bracket percentage off an expense when itemizing deducitons. You subtract your expenses/donations from you gross income and then you are taxed based on what you actually brought in. This could in fact take you down to a lower tax bracket.
Also, the government does not subsidize you. They just don't get to take that money from you. That is not a subsidization!
My guess is unless you have a side business, a huge amount of medical expenses or something like that, you are not going to be itemizing anyway, you'll take the standard deduction as it would be more beneficial.
And let's be real, if Soros is making this kind of donation, he shouldn't be taxed on that income, as he didn't keep it for himself. A teacher is never going to be able to make those kinds of donations so why is the donation cap unfair?
I think you should be able to make any size of donation at no tax cost to you as you aren't keeping the money, so why should you pay taxes on it? It will hurt giving, that's a fact. Some people give money just to get rid of it so they pay less taxes, that's still helping people.
Michael:
Good luck to you man!
Steffanie:
I understand that you do not wish to be friends. That's really what's sad about this whole debate--many of you appear to be unreasonable and uncapable of logical and objective discussion. You merely seek to degrade and insult which isn't constructive and doesn't help our country move forward.
Justin76:
Bush was a puppet when he should have been PRESIDENT. That's his crime and that's why the current destruction of our economy is his fault. I'm very well versed on the specifics of how the economy came to fall as it did. It was a combination of bad practices by the American consumer, bad practices by American mortgage lenders, and bad practices by the financiers who packaged high risk loans into securities which they then sold internationally (which is why the downturn was global).
Why blame Bush, you say? He was asleep at the wheel, running our military into the ground (don't even get me started on the suffering our troops and their families have been going through) and didn't have the sense to keep an eye on the what these greedy Wall Street types were doing with our economy behind his back!
The man seems to have been a good person, but he was a horrible leader for this country--look at all of the Republican corruption that took place in Washington during his presidency! From the scandal with the Attorney General bringing political beliefs into the legal system, to the Abramoff lobbying scandal....it just goes on and on.
It was like the wild west in Washington with Bush as President and the Wall Street financiers robbed the country on his watch.
You're right Spetre, exept I don;t think that Clinton was fiscally all the bad, now that we have a new benchmark for fiscal rediculousness. Clinton looks better now than he did back in the day.
Funny how these people think that ths situaiton we got into because of the combined incompetence of the FBI and CIA as well as many other organizations is all Bush's fault, now he let his cronnies run the economy into the ground. It must have been a lot of work for him to get all this evil work done as well as fight terrorists, run the country, etc. Oh and what a POS he is for not negotiating with Katrina and telling her to turn away and not drowd a bunch of fools who live below the sea level....next to the ocean. I mean, he could have done more!
wallismarsh:
yes, on a surface level it seems that the tax policy will hurt charitable giving, but you have to look at the larger issue. The itemized deduction cap was unfairly biased to give more benefit to a taxpayer who was wealthy.
Let's say a teacher in the 15 percent tax bracket and a banker in the 35 percent tax bracket both donate $100 to charity. The donation costs the teacher $85, with the government subsidizing the remaining $15 through the itemized deduction the teacher takes.
BUT the donation costs the banker only $65, with the government subsidizing the other $35.
See, the tax changes basically eliminate that extra bit of itemized deduction the banker was getting because he has more money than the teacher.
So if the rich banker decides he won't give $100 to charity the next year, don't blame the President--blame the banker for being a cheapskate!
OMG Mina, BUSH DID IT AGAIN!!! WOW. Bush must be responsible right? I don't question Obama's nationality, but you should take your own advise, stop blaming Bush for everything, you look pathetic and ignorant. maybe you could eduate yourself government and economics a little better.
Stephanie:
Scorn away my friend, lol.
And for those strange people still questioning whether President Obama is an American Citizen: Please stop--you are embarassing yourself.
If you really want to know if he's an American Citizen, EVERY MAJOR NEWSPAPER AND MAGAZINE IN THE COUNTRY has written about this and NONE have found ANY credible evidence that he was born anywhere except HAWAII!!!!
OUR U.S. SECRET SERVICE, THE CENTRAL INTELLIGENCE AGENCY, THE FBI, AND THE NATIONAL SECURITY ADMINISTRATION WOULD NEVER ALLOW A FOREIGN BORN INDIVIDUAL INTO THE PRESIDENCY!!!!!! I mean seriously--are you nuts???? It's hard enough to get into a bar with a fake ID!
It's hard for me to grasp how people could actually believe that the greatest intelligence security network in the world--a network that finds murderers, bank robbers, international terrorists, kidnappers, and all manner of criminals--could have any trouble determining whether one man was born in this country.
Do you even realize how difficult it is to enter this country undocumented from an african country? You can't even leave the airport security unless you have a visa and documentation to enter on American soil! Are you trying to say that President Obama's mother smuggled him into the country as a baby without any record, then she flew to Hawaii and forged his birth so that he could be an American and NO ONE KNEW ABOUT IT??? What could you be thinking?
This is the greatest country in the world, with the greatest technical capabilities in the world, and you actually think one man could bamboozle the entire intelligence system into thinking he's an American if he was really born in KENYA????
Wow.
If you still question whether President Obama is an American, you are woefully ignorant and apparently you don't read anything at all. You should go out and read about 300 newspapers from the last 2 years. And pick up a few magazines and books while you're at it.
Many people need charity. It makes there life better. There is no question about that.
I wish the current administration didn't propose to end the charity deduction. The current administration may hurt a lot of people. The Obama administration needs to rethink this tax policy.
Michael,
I thought this was a wonderful post because of your positive and open-minded views. I'm so sorry that you face so much hostility from your fellow Nebraskans, but take heart in the fact that many people around the country share you views. A lot of these negative comments reflect a complete lack of information regarding Mr. Soros work over the last few decades. He is a primary force in promoting DEMOCRACY around the world! He supports the American Dream in places that imprison people for speaking their minds!
Mr. Soros also made billions of dollars when the economy sank because he KNEW that Bush was allowing Wall Street financiers to run this country into the ground! But he recognizes his responsibility as a man of immense wealth and he GIVES HIS MONEY TO HELP OTHER PEOPLE.
I would direct these angry people commenting on this article to read their scriptures!
I Samuel 2:7
"The LORD sends poverty and wealth; he humbles and he exalts."
If God has seen fit to bring wealth to Mr. Soros, then who are these people to scorn this man for giving to the poor, as God would have him do??
Michael, I just commend you for daring to be an individual and your willingness to represent opinions that are so obviously misunderstood in your town is the very essence of America.
Continue to report on the truth and just know that with the internet and present technology, people ALL OVER THE WORLD can read your thoughts and many millions of us agree with you.
In closing, Michael I offer you these words that always comfort me when it seems that there is not a reasonable person in the room:
Proverbs 23:9
"Do not speak to a fool, for he will scorn the wisdom of your words."
I kust read about liberal talk show host Ed Schultz claims that conservatives want Obama to get shot. That soulnds a lot what you would read here. A liberal painting with a broad and remarkabley off-base brush.
While listening to talk radio most of the day I have yet to hear anything resembling this and as a conservatiev I must say, this guy must be a remarkably ignorant piece of work.
First of all, the thought od wishing anyone harm like that is evil. Then throw in the fact that he is good father and great husband to 2 little girls and his wife reguardless of his politics. It's just something I don't think intelligent people will think about. Ignorant people, maybe.
Then we get to the fact that if Obama were to ne hurt in any way, guess who would be the new prez? Does anyone really want Joe Biden as the president. You thought Dan Qwayle was a bonehead, this guy could write a book on boneheads.
That would lead the way to an even scarier possibilty, if something would happen to Joe, the scariest witch in the country would then be president, Nancy Pelosi would be...well a nightmare would be more pleasant.
We're much better off with Obama out of the three, so the suggestion doesn't even make sense. Besides, in our history as a country, only good presidents have ever been assinated or been very close to it. Lincoln, Kennedy, and Reagan. Carter, Harding, Hoover made it out unscathed.
Right now Obama is going nowhere but broke, and broke big time. If I were him I wouldn't even want to be around the White House when the inflation and interest rates take off. If he is, and doubt he will be, he could be one of the dirty dozen of bad presidents.
If he gets out soon, he could still get to blame Bush for everything and say at least he tried. If he sticks around for 8 years he will eventually have to face the music and won't be able to blame everything on Bush.
It's funny that so many Gen Xers and Gen Yers think Bush is the worst president in the US history. Man, they need to study history better! We've had some president that really sucked all the way around!
Yes Mike, you are right, so go tell your dispicable liberal crooks in D.C. to quit calling everyone in this country that wants to limit the powers of the "feral" government, how much of the problem they really are.
Who gives $%it about Robin Hood. Everybody knows he was a thief. the only difference is that he was a stealing from fat pig government and giving back to the people.
Now you're trying to tell us that the big fat pig government that is stealing from the middle class and working wealthy is Robin Hood? That's a nice way to tell people they are being screwed blind!
And quit trying to denounce people on a technicality over communism vs.socialism. I know the diff. The two go hand in hand unless you want to ignore the truth.
Communists need to control the people to control the wealth and the economy. How better to control the people than get control of them through single payer healthcare, take over banks and big corperations such as car companies, and then control consumerism with bullshit cap and trade taxes based on a science that is no more proven than the big bang theory which is a bunch of crap.
I think that in order for communism to work there must be a strong socialism belief in place. Once we let socialism go through the roof, how far from communism are we? After all, our crooks in DC are obviously much smarter than we are. They should be able to tell us what to buy, what to eat, where to crap, and how many kids to have.
and we all know mike doesnt do ANY of that
So let me get this straight I want to make sure I've got the comments correct:
Giving is evil, UNLESS it's from a Christian organization
Giving is evil, if you don't give enough.
Giving is evil, when you steal it to give. I'm pretty sure we all grew up with a character that was much beloved for doing the same thing, Robin Hood.
I'm sure Mr. Eldridge is referring to the Soros conviction in France. The charges there were filed 13 years after the fact. He was charged for insider trading despite the fact that the whole thing was made public from the beginning.
Jerie, I'll say it once again, Communism is a form of government not a belief. You are confusing communism with socialism.
Also what political outcome did he change?
But thanks once again for the name calling and chastizing and once again calling me un-American. It sickens me that I share my beliefs and you people consider me anti-American. You are the problem, not the solution. Those who practice hate, shouting down the opposition, and throwing out the old herring of un-Americanism are causing this great country of ours more harm than they really care about.
Mike, Shalom. For what it is worth, the total is $175 Mil. total, at a 4:1 ratio.
Mr. Soros knows why he donated $35 mil. From the goodness of his heart? Thank God. From the evil of his intention? Thank God. God know how to use even Mr Soros' questionable motivation to His own Glory.
I do wish I was as smart at you, however. It must be fantastic to know what every Conservative would have done, in any given circumstance. PBHO aught to hire you as a 'Seer.'
In Messiah, Jesus. Arley
Mike,
The last time I checked we were a Constitutional Republic, a sovereign nation with a system set up to protect the people from a tyrannical government. A government for the people by the people.
Liberal globalism and social policies have been eroding our core foundation almost since our government's inception. The growth of the federal government and the demise of state sovereignty is in fact the very thing destroying our great nation.
Wealthy people who use their wealth and power to change a political outcome against the will of the people to their political desires usurp the will of the people and in fact end up the controlling force of the policies. The minority imposing their will on the majority.
It's called media propaganda, bribes and deals behind doors of the wealthy powers to be, to meet the end result, more wealth, more power, more control. Hardly what the intent of a constitutional republic and division of powers was intended for.
Liberal social policies should be left to the local communities and community religious structures not the federal government.
To me George Soros isn't Liberal or a socialist. He is a Communist. That's why he is hated. He is in fact a Domestic threat to our constitution.
The problem with you is you don't have a clue as to Government limits of powers. Soros has become what he originally set out to dismantle. He has failed to realize that if our constitution was enforced his mislead need to bring down the capitalist pig would not be necessary. He is in fact part of the problem, not the solution.
A little boy with big ideas, to rule the world.
Let me sum up Michael's' comments: "four legs good, two legs bad." You are such a sheep.
Giving becomes evil, you dummy, when you are out stealing the money you are giving away!
C'mon! Are you so inept in the brain department that you cannot see that simple point?
Simply referring to Soros as a "liberal" is like referring to a mass murderer as a petty thief.
Sometime ago, you chastised me for calling you bro. By God, if you aren't right. You're no Bro of mine. I like my Bros to at least be capable of rational thought.
Soros tried to ruin the Russian Currency. Soros made moves against the British Pound. He's been thrown out of almost every decent country in the world, and you liberal crazies love the guy.
well mike, that is absolutely the best spin i have seen in a loooooooong time
Whine, whine, whine, whine, whine. Should have expected this from you Mike.
Kudos to George Soros for sending money to needy children, that is s very respectable thing do and greatly needed in many areas.
You, one the other hand have no idea what you're talking about. I'll tell you why a lot of people dispise Soros, not hate, there is a difference and you should know that.
Many people dispise him because of the fact that no ONE person spent more money to viciously attack a likable presidential candidate. Also, many consider him to be wealthy simply from the fact that he has amassed his fortune by betting against the dollar and the American economy yet we're a good enough country to live in.
I don;t think it has anything to do with the fact that he is liberal. No one would a crap about him if he were liberal and spending all this money on anything other than politics.
I seem to remember "How the Gringrinch Stole Christmas" cover of Newsweek magazine as one of many examples of how dispised Newt was during Clinton's admin, yet here you state that he is beloved simply because he is a republican. I think you're crazy and whinny.
As far as your assessment of the new liberalism. I agree that some can't tell the difference between communism and socialism asny better than Nancy Pelosi can as she is calling all protesters Nazis. But as far as you liberal paradise you descible...one man's paradise is another man's nightmare.
