Going to Enjoy ItPosted Tuesday, April 14, 2009, at 9:11 AM
President Obama's first 100 days will end on April 29th, but if you listen to the extreme right, you would think Obama has been in office for at least three years. I am continually amazed at just how frothing mad those on the right are acting. There's a group, headed by some powerful Republicans and Fox News (though to hear them, it is a grassroots organization ... it's not) that on April 15th, they are going to dump tea bags into rivers all around the country. The leading charge to this is "No taxation, without representation." Unfortunately for this group, they don't have a full grasp on what they are doing. First of all, they do have representation. Second of all, I don't think they have a full understanding of the original Boston Tea Party. Third, the tax rates they are actually protesting against are the Bush rates. Obama hasn't changed the tax rate. But, this is America, if they want to do it, good for them, exercise their rights.
That is just a small example. It just amazes me how hard the right is trying to give Obama any credit. Take Sean Hannity for example. After the rescue of the captain of the coast of Somalia, Obama got some credit for giving the go ahead for the rescue. Hannity, foaming at the mouth, tried telling Bernard Goldberg that Obama was required by law to give the okay and therefore to actually accept the accolades for giving the okay was dishonest. As Goldberg, who has said the dictionaries have a left lean to them, said, if Obama had given the okay and the captain had died, then Hannity would have still gone after him. Here's the point, a lot of Republicans today are acting as bad if not worse than Democrats did after Bush took office. You guys need to pace yourselves. Instead of blaming Obama for everything that happens, actually wait until a big screw up so you all have more credence. Or you can keep going down the path you are going and like the Democrats be kept out of the White House for 8 years. All in all, I am rather enjoying watching Republican heads absolutely explode everyday. If you listen to them, the world is going to end in the next couple of months. They need to take a breath. It'll be okay. _ In other news, Al Franken has been declared the winner by Supreme Court of Minnesota in the Senate Election in Minnesota. Senator Coleman, his opponent, has some time to appeal that decision, and if anything from the past says he will. His people keep claiming that Franken was illegally elected and so far have tried through 2,000 pages of briefs tried to prove it. Here's the problem, everytime the Coleman people make a challenge, Franken's lead increases. As it is, right now, Coleman is keeping a democratically and fairly elected Senator from taking his seat. Just another misstep from the Republicans. You may not hear much from me in the near future as I am going to just sit back and watch and enjoy the Republican Party implode. for real???? Dems acted badly when Bush won the election? I'll give you credit for that one mike. There's always the possibility that your assessment of the Republicans imploding may be more wishful thinking than anything else. Frothing at the mouth? mike, I believe you're the one frothing at the mouth.
No actually I'm good to go. I like how things are being handled right now by our president and congress (well part of it anyways). How exactly is that frothing?
frothing about the Republicans
As always, Mike you explain that you understand everything and it is us who understand nothing. Let me explain something to you.
I plan on attending a tea party tomorrow. I think it's a great opertunity to teach my boys about standing up for someting and using our right to free speach to make our voices heard.
What are we standing up for? Well it may not be 100% protest against taxation without representation as was the case in the 1770's colonies. I think we all agree times have changed and thigs are certianly different.
I would argue that there may be a little bit of taxation with little representation when you look at the fact that our country is being governed by big city lefty liberals like Pelosi and we have little power over her snakey ways. Ben Nelson sure isn't stopping her from steamrolling the El Presidente.
We are seeing a historical rise in spending and that will only lead to high taxation and high inflation, it's inevitable. Funds are being mismanaged by the trillions. Government is step-by-step taking over private interprise in the name of class envy and social reform. If you think the government can run a business better than a business, your are competely ignorant.
I hope you really don't believe that. Many people do, and that's what is wrong with our country at this moment in time.
Everyone thinks that they have a right to everything. They are wrong. The constitution doesn'y give you the right to everything, it gives us the right to persue it. It's up to you to make what you want from life. It's not to me to do it for you.
Let me keep my hard earned money to take of my family. If a bunch a degenerates want to make a living then they have every right to do so, but I shouldn't have to do it for them.
I am protesting to abuse of our curent taxation system that seems to want to pay people to be lazy, replace fathers in the familiy and the supprt of socialist policies that are changing the shape of our society from a proud do-it-yourself country we used to be to the apathetic bunch of wimps we are collectively becoming.
Laissez-faire!
yeah, I know I did spell wonderfully. It's hard to type when you're eating luncha dn thinking quickly all at the same time.
Mike said, "The leading charge to this is "No taxation, without representation." Unfortunately, as usual, Mike is wrong.
...taxpayer "tea party" to protest the federal economic stimulus package...protesters are also troubled by the prospect of nationalizing key industries such as banking.
"If you want to stimulate the economy, you just need to reduce the taxes and regulations."
**sigh** Mike, I know you're a Democrat...but you're in Nebraska. Facts actually count in the Midwest.
Facts actually count in the Midwest? Wow maybe you should share that with some of the brethern on this site. Facts only matter to your point of view. If the facts don't support you then change them.
"If you want to stimulutate the economy, you just need to reduce the taxes and regulations." Umm, hate to tell you this but we just had 8 years of exactly that and look at the mess we are in.
I also find it hilarious all these people out against socialism. I bet if you asked someone who is against "socializing" the banks that was on Social Security, Medicare or Medicaid they would tell you to go to hell. Aren't those SOCIALIZED programs?
Here's the simple fact, the best economy is that economy in which uses several different ideologies such as using capitalism and socialism side by side often times intertwining with one another.
But alas my point has been proven. I write a blog about how the Republican Party and ultra-Conservatives seem to be blowing up and imploding and you all rush on and prove my point by attacking me. I love it.
At one point I felt sorry for you, but in just 80 days you have made it such a circus that I can't feel anything but glee over it.
You say we need a revolution. For you I think you have revolution confused with just plain losing.
Never in the annuls of history, has so much damage been done to so many (unborn), by so few, and all in less than 100 days. Sadly, we deserve what we receive, for with eyes open, we missed seeing and hearing the many clues, and harbingers, of our democratic doom.
Prophecy's Last Days? We will soon know.
In Messiah, Jesus, His Shalom, and vigil. Arley
The socialist regime is gaining steam folks. Keep in mind this is tongue-in-cheek, but there are some serious warning to be mindful of. Lets look at what has transpired...
The new Homeland Security Feds are warning El Presidente of "right wings extremeist" activity.
Why is this alarming? Well, they say because we have a new "black" president, the recession, and all these disgruntled vets, there is a possible threat to El Presidente.
Well first of all, I don't agree with him or his policies, I think he's just a better weasle than Clinton, who admitted wasn't a bad president...just a sleazy one. But that sure as heck doesn't make me a racist assasin.
I think this is a small baby step of the left to control social activity. Think about it. What if we crazy conservatives want to hold a huge rally in a big city against the massive debt we're piling up? Now the Homeland Security has the power to squash based on the fear they have drummed up with all the poppycock about racist conservative killers.
Look at what the ignorant 7 came up with after their trip to Cuba. What a bunch of crap. Castro the Saint? Where the hell did these people go ...the Bermuda Triangle into a parallel dimension?
Let's take a look at the USSR, the Russian Orthodox Church is just now gaining steam after decades of suppression from the commies. Monestaries and churches had been vacant for decades until the fall of communism.
North Korea...people are litteralling starving as I found from a Nation Geographic article last year. The photographer had to sneak around as a tourist and risked his life.
Cuba, all the countries industry is owned by the Castros, and the people are worse than dirt poor. The US embargo did not cause this as the rest of free world can do all the business they want with Cuba and do. The trouble is that the Castros own it all. Lifting the embargo won't change a damn thing.
Venuzuelas are regularly out of eletricity and have little infrastructure. The only thing that keeps that country afloat is oil. You can see now with the low oil prices they are suffereing. They'll only be successful with $100+ OIL. This just proves that their socialst dictator is a "one trick pony."
The point is, with El Presidente taking over one private industry after another and mortgaging it with my kids' future, creating never before seen power to hire/fire/salary cap private businesses, possibly restricting free speech when they find a way around the Fairness Doctrine, and now the criminalization of conservatives is only the begining....the first 100 days.
Socialism doesn't have to look like Stalinist Russia or even Castro's Cuba. It can come a as bailout package designed to free us from our troubles caused b y the last 8 years of Bush, but the end result could be the same.
People need to do research and some self study to learn about what history has provided for us to learn from.
And yes Mike the social programs you mentioned are socialist and boy aren't they working nicely! How long has it been that Social security has been broke. It's nice to know that the money I have to pay goes straight to a elderly persons mailbox, yet when I'm 70 I won't get a dime! That's real nice to know when I'm working 80 hours a week and have to listen to all the "fixed income" whinning.
The other social programs are a joke too. How about high prices of medicine because the government will now pay for it. The prescription drug program was projected to be what...40 Bils, then it swelled to 80 Bils in the first year? That was another gift from Bush to Teddy "don't bother calling 911 to help the drowning girl" Kennedy...something libs wanted and got under Bush.
It's funny, you guys blame Bush for everything, but all he did was became a liberal spender while in office. What exactly are you so mad at him for anyway? Seems to me he did everything you would have done on your own anyway. Right?
Oh, I hate to rain on your parade, but I'm having a blast with this. I think its hillarious that you believe that conservatism is dwindling. Do you know what I really think? Obviously I disagree, but I think that so many conservatives are too busy working and creating wealth to pay the taxes to support the lazy that there is no time for political action. You wouldn't believe the inconvenience it is to my busy work and family schedule to attend a tea party tomorrow, but I think it's a good experience for my kids to learn about the constitution and a once in a lifetime chance to do recreate something so important and historic, even on a small scale.
I'm going to sit back and enjoy this too...in a way. I don't like what I see but I also think it's very interesting that these things are going on in Washington. It's like history is creeping up on us, some of us are paying attention, ans some of us are too busy waiting for a bailout check to notice. The ghosts of the framers of the constitution are waking up and whispering in our ears. Only the logical and educated may pick up on it, hopefully there are enough to listen and protest.
I also think it's interesting that you are riduculing the tea party protesters. Has there ever been a time in our recent history that so many people across the country are staging these protests against the governement right after a "landslide" as you called it of an election? According to you we should all be very pleased with El Presidente because so many of us voted for him. Also since us conservatives are so few and we're all hiding in the basements and bomb shelters, why then are there some many protests going on that it's constantly making national news. It will tomorrow, that's for sure.
I'm loving it. You all keep proving my original post.
Keep up the heightened boogeyman and paranoia theme you all have been pounding since day 1.
Justin, I see now that you believe that Homeland Security is supposedly going after conservatives now instead of liberals you don't like it so much.
G5, once again you are confusing Communism, which is a political system with Socialism, which is an economic system. Actually I know you aren't confusing the two. You know the difference. You just don't care.
Mike said, "If you want to stimulutate the economy, you just need to reduce the taxes and regulations." Umm, hate to tell you this but we just had 8 years of exactly that and look at the mess we are in."
I guess Mike missed the FACT that the current economic problems sit at the feet of the Democratic Community Reinvestment Act, which placed quotas on bank loans, forcing them to 'become creative' to meet the government regulations. He also missed the fact that the Bush administration attempted to fix the problem before the crash, but every attempt was met with cries of "racism" from the Democrats.
Mike said, "Social Security, Medicare or Medicaid they would tell you to go to hell. Aren't those SOCIALIZED programs?"
As strange as it may seem, while Democrats are always telling Republicans to opt out of these socialized programs, they NEVER suggest that we can stop PAYING FOR THEM. I think we support enough non-working Democrats as it is...
Mike said, "I write a blog about how the Republican Party and ultra-Conservatives seem to be blowing up and imploding and you all rush on and prove my point by attacking me."
I'm sorry you feel so threatened by our typing, Mike. I guess you've been studying up on the new Homeland Security report that tags all conservatives - especially those "really dangerous ones" who vote - as potential violent offenders. Yet here we are, merely arguing online. Be calm, Mike, we're not coming after you.
Mike said, "You say we need a revolution."
Mike just loves to be wrong. I've never said anything like that. :-)
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/29493093/
The above link is from MSNBC. I do not think that they are conservative.
If standing up for what's right in this world and being concerned for everyone's rights reguardless of their political persuation, but most of all trying to protect the Constitution makes me a laughing stock to you Mike, then go ahead and laugh your brains out.
I just will not choose the path of least resistance as you liberals and moderates have. Standing up for what's right is the hardest thing to do and you liberals in the mainstream media continue to prove that, especially with eacha dn every one of your posts.
The simple fact that you are laughing at us just proves we're on the right track.
They laughed at and rediculed Jesus Christ on his last day, yet he restored our lives and the kingdom of God.
Justin you self-righteous little turd.
Equating your political stance with the bad weekend that JC went through is a little over the top.
Refusing to edit your post and using typical conservative name-calling techniques sound like the paths of least resistance to me.
I'm sure you are looking out for the rights of everyone...so long as they're white, straight, and Christian.
You are a hilarious piece of work friend. Kudos.
well billy, I thought you intellectual liberals didnt believe in "JC". Name calling? What about "self-righteous little turd"?
Good question doodle.
The point isn't if I believe in Jeebus or not, I have never equated myself with any deity/savior/god/superhero. I will gladly admit that I find copious amounts of humor in Justin doing so.
I also have not called myself "intellectual" or "liberal". If those are labels you want to dish out, you're free to do so.
As far as the name-calling goes, calling someone a "turd" is probably over the top.
However, I won't apologize for any of my other comments towards Justin. If someone claims to take the moral and ethical high ground and in the same breath trashes the opposing viewpoint, that person deserves to be called out.
I appreciate the comments/questions doodle. I hope the answers were sufficient.
As the super smart, would famous, tell it like it is blogger Sam once said, "I wish I had time to protest".
Me too bigdawg, it's a lovely day to swing around some bags of tea.
Anybody care to comment on MSNBC's little poll. Over 2 million people have voted so far with about 60% giving the President a D or an F. MSNBC is a liberal site. Mike any thoughts on your fellow lefty's failing the Pres.?
doodle, I hate this coming from you. I never imagined you falling into the "all liberals are godless" trap, yet you have.
I suggest you actually get to know some liberals, you may actually be surprised by what they believe in. But since you just made the Ann Coulter jump and asserted that intellectual liberals don't believe in JC, I doubt you will do that.
I wonder how the teabagging is going.
Seriously guys if you want to know why most of America isn't taking this "tea party" seriously think about this. You are trying to claim that is a grassroots organization. It's not even in the same hemisphere of grassroots. Grassroots start from the bottom and work up. This organization was started from the top down.
And then there's the whole teabagging thing. I shouldn't even have to tell you why that's funny in and of itself.
And finally, usually a protest has a single focused point. This one if all over the board. Everyday it seems the fine folks running this come up with some new thing to protest.
Yes actually I do have a comment. Take online polls with a grain of salt. Most online polls allow a person to vote as many times as they can. There are blogs out there that post the website just so people can vote 100s of times. How do you think Stephen Colbert nearly got a piece of the Space Station named after him.
If you believe online polls then you probably thought John Kerry was going to run away with the election as he was leading in some online polls by as much as 20-30%.
So you make fun of Fox but when MSNBC has a poll you don't like you excuse it away. Sounds like the pot calling the kettle black.
Walli, this is ridiculous.
The poll on MSNBC has a link to an article specifically telling you that this isn't a scientific (i.e. - accurate) poll. They said that they posted a similar poll during the primaries and it said that Ron Paul would win the New Hampshire primary with a 76% vote (he ended up getting something like 8% of the vote).
You can find the article here: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3704453/
So take the data for what it is. People are upset with this president (that can't be surprising to anyone who visits this site). Big whoop, people were upset with the last president and the president before him (and so on and so on). Hell, there's probably some old coot still hollerin' about how the Harding presidency screwed up this country.
Good work though on exposing Mike's bias. You really let the cat out of the bag there.
You just prove all the points I made billy. I can't stop laughing at how you morons like to make things up to make yourselves feel better about promoting your free-loading politics.
I've never compared myself to Christ, just pointed out the fact that just because the media doesn't portray what we beleive, doesn't make it nonsense.
If you weren't so ignorant, you wouldn't have any trouble concluding that. Maybe these things are just over your head a little bit.
this is just too awesome. Here you guys are hacking down us tea baggers for protesting the expanding Hog government and increased socialsim. Mike you sound just like Bagalia, have you been listening to him today?
Why was it okay for you guys to go out and protest the war in Iraq, but we can't protest unfair taxes and the explosion of the government spending and invasion of private business?
I AM LMAO at you guys. Yeah!
You talk out of both sides of your mouth. Keep it up Mike, can't awit to hear some more you and your freinds' ridicule of us acting out our constitutional rights!
God Bless the USA!
I know the poll has flaws. The flaws are that MSNBC is a liberal site. Therefore, you would expect a certain degree of bias toward the left. That is interesting to me that the left is unhappy with their guy. It would make you think that the left want's him to lean even more to the left.
Glenn Beck just said it. "I don't give a flying crap about the donkey or the elephant!"
I care about my country, my future, my kids' future, and the constitution.
Wow, look at all the extremists on tv all across the country speaking their minds! Homeland Security must be busy keeping track of all of our movements today.
I'll help them out...I'm heading to North Platte in about 20 minutes from McCook.
you make a valid point about my falling into the "trap" mike; I guess its about the same as you stating "the Republicans have bamboozled America". As for the teabagging; I approve the premise. Effectiveness? I am guessing the liberals are fearful it may be.
and to billy; that really is hilarious about exposing mikes "bias". lol
Justin,
It's tough to ignore your assertions that I can't think for myself when you eagerly post Glen Beck quotes verbatim as they come across the TV.
"I've never compared myself to Christ, just pointed out the fact that just because the media doesn't portray what we beleive, doesn't make it nonsense."
Your intentions may not have been to compare yourself to Jeebus, but I do not for the life of me understand how this can't be taken as a comparrison:
"The simple fact that you are laughing at us just proves we're on the right track.
They laughed at and rediculed Jesus Christ on his last day, yet he restored our lives and the kingdom of God."
Those two statements clearly compare the laughter of Mike to the persecution of your lord.
Now I may be an ignorant moron, but I understand that there are sometimes discrepancies between what is said and what is interpreted. Truth and meaning are sometimes subjective concepts that differ from person to person.
In this moron's opinion, the truly ignorant person is the one who's obnoxious enough to believe that his beliefs and ideals are infallible.
This moron also believes that because this type of person has such strongly held ideals, he becomes irrationally upset when those ideals are threatened. Instead of taking a thoughtful look at opposing viewpoints to judge its merits, this type of person lashes out with a barrage of insults towards the opposing party and puts his own ideals on a pedestal by proclaiming their moral superiority without much thought as to facts or rational data.
This type of person is so insecure about his ideals, he feels it is necessary to force them upon the following generation so that these ideals are not lost or tainted when he takes the long dirt nap. So instead of being a competent parent and letting his children autonomously develop their own beliefs and ideals, this type of person pushes his children to rallies and services that cram ideals and harsh consequences for disobedience down their throats and scares them into blindly following the lifestyle of the parent. Thus continuing the cycle of ignorance and pleasing the original ignoramus.
Now Justin before you go on and call me an idiot again....
It seems to me that a lot of the anger on this site could be alleviated if we were willing to look at the merits of the opposition. My grandfather always said that "no one is everything all the time." Conservatives aren't always right and liberals aren't always wrong. The US is not a "love it or leave it" type of nation and should not be treated as such. Many of the Founding Fathers despised each other, but together they created the greatest country the world has ever known. If we were able to momentarily look past the flaws of the opposition, I'm sure we could have some fantastic threads on this site...the type of discussions that would leave us enlightened instead of angry or more blindly entrenched in our own ideals. I think that enlightenment is something we should all be pursuing each and every time we post on this blog. We should want to better ourselves and create the kind of community that shares responsibility and works together towards a common goal because the problems we face now are our problems and will be the burdens of our children if they cannot be resolved. Now is not the time for "me", it is the time for "us".
Justin, I can see why you're upset with the recent history of bailouts. It's not something I completely agree with (in fact, I'm pretty big on fiscal conservatism). But to simply state that tax cuts and spending freezes will be the quick way to turn around the economy is wrong in my opinion. Much was made about Obama's first 100 days, so the heat was on him to come up with a quick solution (regardless of who read it). As a Democrat I wish some things were done differently, but I am cautiously optimistic about the positive steps the economy has made so far (however small those steps may seem).
Now that was an honest attempt to come clean about my feelings without any mud slinging. I look forward to your thoughtful reply and hope that this resurrect some of the burnt bridges on this site.
Sincerely,
The Ignorant Moron
Billyjb, was that so damn hard? Welcome to the blog of name calling. I would however swap being called a moron anyday over being called a racist as Mike has so arrogantly and proudly done in his liberal tirades. I guess us conservatives don't hold the US patent on nake calling.
I guess not being a big fan of the president, who happens to be black, makes you a racist on thins blog. It's just typical of someone who has no firepower or real intellect to throw a racist nametag at someone in an attempt to discredit what they're saying instead of just interpreting the words.
You make some good points.
Again, I have to laugh at our liberals whinners who are jokingly equating our protests to uhold traditional American values with the act of a male bobbing his genetalia over someone's face. Boy you guys are real American heros aren't you.
You've been on here trumpeting your liberal values that are going to save our country and whinning about why the rest of us hard working Americans don't want to work another 20 hours a week to pay for your college education. This is as intellectual as you can get....teabagging? LMAO
Well, I had the pleasure of spending a few hours with some great Americans today. hard working Americans, vets, college kids, elderly, a real cross section of the country. They were all coming together to voice their disgust with the ever expanding federal government and the socialism that is creeping up on us that the likes of Mike and Guillermo are trying to hide from your eyes by calling us racists a nutbags...or is that teabaggers.
I would love to have a real conversation with a liberal that si not allowed to say the word BUSH. You guys just can't make an argument that doesn't revolve around BUSH. I've noticed this trend, especially from the frequent bloggers.
Are there any rllies out there for Bush right now? Last time I checked we were not out here trying to get Bush back. We after real conservatism. You one trick ponies just can't let it go because that's your argument for everything.
If we're having a discussion about taxes, government intervention, oppression, corruption, etc. I have the entire world history to reflect on to make my case against huge taxation, welfare systems, etc. You guys have "we already had 8 years of Bush!" And that's all you got. You need to get something else. You need to prove where it has historically worked that government can own the banks, car companies, health care system and on and on.
Right now all I can think of is Cuba, Venezuela, North Korea, the former USSR. Do you have something I'm not aware of. I'd like to see it. I'd rather die than be a slave to socialist government that tells what I will become in life, what I will do, and where I will live. No thanks.
I heard someone describe socailism taking over is like trapping a wild hog. You go out into the woods where wild hogs forage for their own food. You begine to feeding them with free corn. Once the wild hog gets used to the free and easy corn he becomes more comfortable with it. the one day you put a fence up on one side of the free corn. The wild hog will eventually get used to this as well. Then you add a second and a third over time. All the while this wild hog is eating "free" corn with little effort. Then one day you slam the gate behind the wild hog. He runs around and tries to get out but there's no escape. As the wild hogs tires of his effort, he begins to realize, well I guess I'll just continue to eat this free corn that has been provided for me all this time. Then alas, the once wild hog is slaughtered for a meal.
The moral of this story is that there is no such thing as a free lunch and it appears to me that the liberals believe there is. Free college, bailouts, free homes, etc. The fact is that someone is paying for it, or someone soon will. It will be people like me that work 80-90 hours a week to make a living so others can sit and do nothing.
The fact is that this federal government has make it entirely too easy to sit around and do nothing while getting paid to do it. They have not won the war on poverty because they failed to fight the right way. Instead of making people fearful of poverty, they've actually rewarded poverty.
Now tell me how 8 years of Bush has created this problem too.
gosh, "I wish I had time to protest".
Justin, I was having a discussion directed towards you and nowhere in my post did I mention Bush. I think I've proven I can make an argument without mentioning that name. I wish you would give me that credit.
I'd also appreciate not being called "you people". I address you as an individual and I'd like the same respect reciprocated.
I also told you my honest fears about the bailouts, and did so without bringing up socialism or communism. I wish that you would address something that I said about the economy.
I did not make any vulgar comments about the protests today. I'd appreciate not being thrown into the group of users that did. We live in a glorious country that allows its citizens to peacefully voice their opinions. I can't put down people who take the time to thoughtfully voice their opinions.
"The moral of this story is that there is no such thing as a free lunch and it appears to me that the liberals believe there is. Free college, bailouts, free homes, etc. The fact is that someone is paying for it, or someone soon will. It will be people like me that work 80-90 hours a week to make a living so others can sit and do nothing."
I have never made this argument. As someone who works in the educational sector helping low income students get into college, I put in many hours of work and don't see a lot in my paycheck. I take it as a slap to the face of those students I work with when people make the assertion that these kids are looking for a handout. Many of these high school kids are working two jobs to help their parents pay the bills and at the same time are trying to fit in times to attend tutoring sessions and ACT prep classes to better their chance of getting into college. These students are not laying back and waiting for the government to give them money. I hope you respect that as much as I do.
"You make some good points."
If that is the case, I would like to know what those points are so that we can further this discussion.
billyjb,
Wow, I guess from here on out I'll have to preface my blogging to exclude you from what I speaking about. I speak to the liberal bloggers here. I never pinned you down as one of them. This blog is for more people to use than just you and I.
I guess if you think I'm getting on here to speak to only you then I am really wasting my time don't you think.
BTW, don't give me this bleeding heart BS about all these HS students that are working all these jobs and heloing mom and dad pay bills. All I see in mom and dad working 2-3 jobs so kids can be career students and career athletes, so that only later in life they realize that life is hard and you have work hard, that's when they want the feds to take care of them.
You don't have to lecture me about working through HS. I WAS the one that had 3 jobs, yes that's three jobs to get the things that I wanted. My parents ahd the money most of those years, but they didn't think it was fair to lead me to belive that anything thereafter would come easy. You don't see that enough these days.
I'm a self made man who stated a business from nothing and now I'm raising my kids to be hard working, intelligent, and resourceful Americans. If these students across the country are working as hard as you say and they actually realize the fruits of their labor the recent poll among Americans would not actually show socialism is growing in favor over capitalism.
You must be a come-lately to this blog as you apparently missed Guillermno telling us all that we should have paid for his college education.
You must also have missed our elite and highly intelligent liberal friends liken our protests by great Americans to porno trash teabagging. Wasn't that just really classy and intelligent?
And Billy, I'm still commenting to you...here are your good points:
1. "But to simply state that tax cuts and spending freezes will be the quick way to turn around the economy is wrong in my opinion."
I agree, that's not the remedy. Reducing huge government spending and aquisistion of private business on my kids' dime IS the answer.
2. "It seems to me that a lot of the anger on this site could be alleviated if we were willing to look at the merits of the opposition. My grandfather always said that "no one is everything all the time." Conservatives aren't always right and liberals aren't always wrong."
Another good point. No wise man worth his salt would ever claim to know everything, and won't ever attempt that. But when all we can get out of these liberals as to the justification for all these new government actions is "8 years of Bush," the communication and understanding just seems to kinda break down.
3. "Instead of taking a thoughtful look at opposing viewpoints to judge its merits, this type of person lashes out with a barrage of insults towards the opposing party and puts his own ideals on a pedestal by proclaiming their moral superiority without much thought as to facts or rational data."
Again,a good point as I have been labeled a racist, something I detest by the way, simply because I believe Obama has been nothing but Nancy Pelosi's personal rubber stamp, or her lap dog. I don't know why they have never commented about every time I stated that Bush did that same very thing for the same exact people in Congress. I guess calling me a racist furthers their agenda and my displease with Bush doesn't help their cause. It makes sense.
I do not agree with your assertion that I am insecure in my beliefs and that's why I'm teaching my kids what I'm teaching them. I'm teaching my kids about the constitution, since they won't get it in school. I'm teaching them about work ethic, self respect, and personal responsibilty. I guess I'm just breeding right winged extremists!
Wow someone takes Glen Beck by his words on here? Surprising. Glen Beck does care about whether it's elephant or donkey. He's made that point a hundred times over.
I love the fact that during the Bush Administration whenever Homeland Security targeted liberal groups non of you protested, but now that you think they are targeting right wing groups you are screaming that is unfair.
Of course, the fact that Homeland Security ISN'T targeting any right wing groups doesn't matter to you. You may have heard about this report that far right wing extremist (Nazis for one) MAY target veterans coming back from Iraq. It doesn't say that Homeland Security is going to target veterans, but that doesn't really matter to you does it. It probably doesn't matter either to you that origination of this report actually came out in 2006, durin the Bush Administration's Homeland Security.
Just so I am clear on this, I am not a fan of Homeland Security, because they do have the tendency to go overboard. They should not target any group ... that isn't doing anything wrong.
But hey Fox News is reporting that this report IS targeting veterans, so it must be true.
Shows what happens when you don't read something all the way through
As for being scared about the Tea-bagging be successful. No I wasn't. I like protests. It's the American way, we've been protesting since before we were American.
But I knew this protest wouldn't work to the ways that the organizers were hoping for one very simple reason. For a good protest to be successful you need to have a common theme. There was no common theme for the Tea bag protest. Everyday it seemed one of the organizers was coming out with a new theme.
If you have more than one theme for a protest, people end up either mistaken or unknowing of what they are protesting. Not calling anyones intelligence into question, just stating fact.
I also wonder how many people out protesting were protesting the fact that we as Americans are paying Billions (that is with a B) in extra taxes so that our businesses can open accounts off-shore and not have to pay taxes. Texas's share alone is 14 Billion dollars every year.
Bet you didn't hear about that on Fox News or fox Business Channel
Tell me who they targeted Mike! Who? Just because you say something here, doesn't make it a fact. I rememeber Cindy Sheehan camping out in font of Bush's ranch for what, weeks? Evil, vile, disrespectful protests for the war in Irq all over CNN, MSNBC, etc. I don't ever recall Homeland security going after them.
I'm sure you'd like to believe what you say about the protests Mike. But when you're federal government is growing so large and looming so much on our backs these days, where does a guy even start? There are too many things that people are fed up with and it's getting worse.
I do however, disagree. I witnessed first hand that the common theme was federal spending has to be reduced and our feds should have to live within their means like the rest of us.
I think it's a pretty big all-encompassing theme, but common none the less.
Your last point is correct I'm sure. You can also count many many small businesses all over the country and right here in McCook that take cash and none of it gets reported. Income filings show much less income than that what is true, less taxes are paid and sometimes even government services are paid out as welfare for low income workers. This has the same effect of raising the tax burden on other as you pointed out.
Maybe there's a reason for this happening. Could it be that so many of us are tired of all the taxes we must pay to the fat cats in Washington? To help the clueless and the lazy so they can sit around and get high while work all week long? I'm not saying everyone getting help is doing this, but I see enough of it driving around town to get mad as hell. Some of us work a lot and some of us don't even try!
Much of Washington's power comes from enslaving these people into their poor pathetic lifestyle. Why not spread my work ethic and desire for achievement instead of my money? Wouldn't that be better for all? Like teaching a man to fish instead of giving him the fish?
It's not just your big businesses and your treasury secretary that are cheating on taxes. The fact is that people are tired of being taxed for everything they do, want, and need. It is driving people to be criminals. maybe that sits well with some people and maybe some don't like it, but are forced to in order to provide for their families.
I think Dennis Miller nailed it last night. Our founding fathers were blowing peoples heads off because the British were taxing their breakfast beverage. Today, every apsect of our lives has a tax attached to it. Our federal government is the biggest "business" in the world. I wonder if our founding fathers would go postal if they could only see what we have done to their constitution?
billy, I am truly beginning to like the tone of your tomes. Keep up the good work and I will attempt to do the same.
Thanks doodle.
By the way, "tomes" is an awesome word. High five.
Then you simply weren't paying attention Justin if you honestly are going to sit there and say that Homeland Security didn't go after liberal groups simply because they were liberal.
I do get your drift though Justin. If the protest is something you support, it is the great American way, what America is all about.
BUT
If the protest is something you don't support, they are vile, evil, and disrespecting.
I guess you believe in a set of rights for you and those who agree with you and a totally other set (or lack there of?) for everyone else.
Wow that is so contrasting how you look at protesters. I watched the Iraq War protests and I saw nothing evil, disrectful, or vile about them. Just as I saw nothing evil, disresepectful, or vile about the protests yesterday.
Why do I get the feeling that if a Democrat had been in office and made the same decisions Bush had made and there were the same kind of protests you wouldn't see anything wrong with them.
I at least try to see both sides of the spectrum, though I rarely agree with the other side. You don't even pretend to look at both sides of an argument. You believe you are right and anyone who disagrees is vile and un-American.
Nice view. I also get the feeling that as you read through this you'll be saying to yourself "Damn right" but when you post you will try to get out what you said one way or another (like the Fox News way of denying you said it, even though it's on record)
So prove it. That's all I ask. You continue to imply things as you believe them to be true, hoping others will blindly follow you into ingorance. Ignorance is what got us to this point. Ignorance is what got this country in a bind. Ignorance is what got Obama elected.
The problem with you Mike is that you cannot provide one piece or shred of proof that anything you declared is true. It's only your opinion, and you're hoping someone takes it as a fact and then you can shovel a bunch more of your baloney down their throats.
Please tell me about what I wasn't paying attention to and I'll listen.....
Liberals on tv are outraged over the tea parties. I guess only liberals can protest the government. Do you guys have a patent on that or something?
What's funnier is how they denounce the protesters because we DO have representation unlike colonists in 1773. I guess we have sit around for a couple more decades or centuries to see if the exact same condition presents itself so that we can go to the streets and protest legitimately. Talk about your whinners.
You know, the war protests that Cindy Sheehan was fueling had nothing to do with the same scenario as the Vietnam War, yet here were all these liberals burning flags and torching voodoo dolls of Bush. There again, I guess only liberals can protest.
I saw a priceless sign at this tea party. "Thank you president Obama for waking a sleeping giant!"
I wish Obama luck. I wish he would come through with one of his comapign promises and stop campaigning, the election is over. The change that's happening is not the change that was sold to us. I even though it sounded good for awhile...until the socialist overtones started to set in.
Why won't he clean up washington? Why won't he rope in spending? Why aren't the troop back? Whay are we still spending billions on the war he was going to stop? Why is he demonizing preivate enterprise? Aren't they the ones paying his wages? Why is he appologizing for Amercians all over the world? He should be appologizing TO us, not for us. He should hold congress accountable for sins against humanity.
Maybe being president is harder than he thought it would be, or maybe he's just another millionare crook politican that is now set for life while riding on our backs.
in my opinion, some of you folks are taking "targeted" out of context. I believe the reference was something to the effect that "returning troops may be targeted by right wing extremists for recruitment". If someone else has a different take on it, please contribute. I also believe Napolitano (HSA) apologized for the statement. And a question for mike; if Fox News is so vile to you, please give us your explanation why they have been the leading cable news show for so many months. Have they not had many, many liberals on the show for their perspective? Are they not, the liberals, generally, treated respectfully and fairly? How many conservatives do you see quoted in those failing bastions of liberalism, the NYT, LAT, Seattle P.I., St.Petersburg Times, etc. etc. I believe Fox to be right leaning, but I also believe them to be more fair than the liberal press. Do not take me to task for the difference between cable news and print news; I already undertstand there is a difference.
Mike, glad to see you like our military all of a sudden. Congratulations. I wonder what you would have blogged if three black teenagers were shot in the head while Bush was President?
I can understand your elation that your guy finally did something right for the country. You bet, stand and cheer.
Then, right away, Obama figures out that we must stop the tyranny of piracy by bribing the pirates. Wow! What a frigging genius. Harvard educated no less.
What is the name of the class at Harvard where you learn to go to the world and apologize for your country, and bad-mouth it?
What is the name of the class at Harvard where one learns to hate the producers of goods in your country?
Michael, you liberals are over-reaching, and it's gonna cost you.
What is so wonderful is that liberals are so arrogant that you can not stop over-reaching, and this time, when we conservatives get our act together, we will stop liberalism for good.
AND George Soros, Vlad Putin, Hugo Chavez, Fidel Castro, Rev. Wright and Bill Ayers won't be able to help you out either. AND a special thanks to the media, for committing professional suicide on the alter of Obama.
The next President will not be the equivalent of American Political Idol.
Mike,
Doesn't it bother you that yet another Obama nominee is being investigated for kickbacks?
BTW Obama made over $2,500,000 last year. Pretty good for a Senator.
I have no problem with people making money but the Obama team is full of tax cheats and unethical public servants that require pay for play.
I was wondering who, and it does not surprise me one bit that it was sam, would pick up the Boss Limbaugh faux line and try to present those terrorists as just three little teenagers who coultn't catch a break. They may have been teenagers BUT they were terrorists. I would have applauded Bush for taking action to bring an American home.
And excuse me Justin, but I have the upmost support and respect for OUR military. You talk about just putting crap out there and hoping it sticks. My brother was in the military and died. Maybe if you actually read my posts instead of just assuming what I am going to say you would know that.
But you already have a preconcieved idea of who I am and what I am going to say and that's more dangerous than anything. You say ignorance elected Obama. So you are saying that OVER 64 MILLION Americans are ignorant. Hmm that sounds very similiar to papers in Europe question the intelligence of voters in 2004 when Bush was elected. Admit it Just this is just sour grapes over losing an election.
Actually you don't have to respond to that. You make up a lot of crap and then expect truthiness out of everyone. You demand facts and then when the facts are actually given you ignore them.
As for the tea baggers, I have nothing against them protesting, but call it what it is; pure hatred for Obama. It wasn't about taxes, certainly not taxation without representation. The original tea party was in response to being taxed by parliament and not having any representation. This was supposed to be nonpartisan and yet when someone got up to decry the Bush Administration spending he got booed off the stage.
Where exactly have you seen any outrage on television from liberals.
And by the way Fox News doesn't bring on liberals, they bring on moderate Democrats who usually agree with everything that is being said.
Wall if you actually read an article about how Obama made his money you would know that it was from his bestselling books, but I guess like Justin facts are inconvenient to you.
Mike:
First of all, the Boston Tea Party was about PUNITIVE taxation (protecting the East India Company from competition) without representation. It was a HIDDEN tax, and it was one of a very few taxes levied against the colonists, all of which combined do not raise to the level that most Americans are taxed today, by our very own government (which kinda, sorta, "represents" us, but not in any truly meaningful manner, and has not for my entire lifetime).
Additionally, the Boston Tea Party was a massive act of civil disobedience, including the indisputable crimes of trespassing and vandalism. There was none of that at the local "Tea Party", and I have not heard of any crimes being committed at any other. (Unless, of course, you consider "anti-Obama" protest, conducted in a peaceful manner, to be Treason - which some of your "progressive" brethren clearly do. How soon they forget, that "dissent is patriotic".....)
I do consider the Somali pirates to be terrorists, and I believe that the SEALs, the ship's Captain, and President Obama did exactly the right thing. It'd be nice to see some Q ships go through trolling for more, or some bombardment of the pirates' bases and mother ships.
.....and it's downright refreshing to see "progressives" acknowledging that there's some actual EVIL in the world...
(that ISN'T committed by the United States of America)
Oh, one more thing: the activity that occurred all over the nation on Wednesday is called "Tea Parties", not "teabagging". Perhaps you are confusing the two activities.
a point of contention mike. Do you not recall O'Reilly having "moderate" democrats like Obama, Clinton, and Dr Marc Lamont Hill on his show? Do you consider them all moderate?
