Guitar Hero - Metallica

This Sunday marks the release of the newest and slightly changed format of the Guitar Hero Series. This time, the songs are all Metallica and there is no guitar. That's right, no guitar.

Guitar Hero: Metallica marks a change in how Activision markets and expands its GH Universe. On this release, you can only pick up just the game, not a game and a guitar making a separate guitar purchase necessary to truly enjoy the game or having a previous guitar that works with the new game. Obviously, Activision is doing this because the sales of their latest Guitar Hero game was significantly less when packaged with a guitar compared to earlier releases. Myself, I would have loved to have a Metallica guitar - even if I already have more than enough guitars. It's always fun to play with a new guitar for the new game.

So, this Sunday Guitar Hero Metallica makes its mark on the world and although I love the Guitar Hero and Rock Band series, I'm left wondering if I need a whole disc of Metallica songs to play. Unfortunately, they aren't my favorite band in the world and although I'd love to pretend playing guitar and drums to some of the band's more recognizable hits - I'm getting a bit tired of the whole thing. Maybe because I play it too much when friends are over - as it tends to be a great time waster with a group of four. Maybe if they had a really cool Metallica guitar to purchase with the game...or maybe not.

The game offers the same old Guitar Hero tricks and takes advantage of full support for guitar, vocals, and drums. If your a Metallica fan, you could hardly go wrong - however, if you only slightly enjoy the group, the game may get a bit boring a bit too quick.
